<text>This article asserts the need for education in order to move towards integral ecology and studies the role that the family, spirituality and the university can play in this formative task. The family has the primary right to educate and it is indeed the most important school. Spirituality 'can motivate us to a more passionate concern for the protection of our world'. The university must also play an important role, harmoniously integrating learning and social service, rather than reducing itself to a merely instrumental and transmitting function. Thus, a new relational paradigm will be possible, one that fosters family relationships and a holistic vision of reality. This urgent need has also been highlighted by the current Covid-19 pandemic.

<text>The morphological and photosynthetic activity were characterized in six genotypes of American oil palm (E. oleifera) of different origins and three of their OxG hybrids (E. oleifera × E. guineensis) with a completely randomized experimental design, three replications and 16 palms per replication. Determinations were made for: photosynthesis, internal CO2 concentration, chlorophyll content, stomatal openings and density, specific leaf area, and measurements of vegetative growth. The genotypes were differentiated by growth rate, emission, area and dry weight of the leaves. The stomatal openings of all the genotypes were maximum in the morning hours, with partial closures at midday; therefore, the maximum rate of photosynthesis was between 9:00 and 12:00 hr. The 'Perú' American oil palm and 'hybrid 2' (Sinú-Coarí × La Mé) showed higher CO2 internal concentrations, total chlorophyll contents, light saturation points and photosynthetic rates, even with low levels of photosynthetically active radiation; characteristics that indicate a high capacity for the fixation of CO2. The photosynthetic rate showed a high positive correlation with the chlorophyll content and a negative correlation with the specific leaf area. In conclusion, the 'Perú' American oil palm showed relevant characteristics for use in breeding programs as female parent of OxG hybrids, while 'hybrid 2', due to its outstanding morphophysiological characteristics, is considered a genotype with good agronomic performance</text>

The production of heart-of-palm of peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth), both main shoot and first offshoot, was evaluated using different sources (organic and inorganic) and schedules of fertilization on an OXISOL in Central Amazonia. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with three repetitions, with a 2 x 7 factorial, with types of plant (spineless and spiny, Yurimaguas, Peru germplasm) and different forms of fertilization (control without fertilizer; manure in the planting pit (25 t/ha); mineral fertilizer in the planting pit (225-90-180 kg.ha-1 N-P2O5-K2O); manure spread one month after planting (25 t..ha-1); mineral fertilizer spread one month after planting (225-90-180 kg.ha-1); manure in the pit (12,5 t.ha-1) + mineral fertilizer spread after planting (112,5-45-90 kg.ha-1); and mineral fertilizer divided in three applications (in the planting pit 75 kg.ha-1 N, 90 kg.ha-1 P2O5, 60 kg.ha-1 K2O + two applications de 75 kg ha-1 N, 60 kg.ha-1 K2O), each repeated in the 2º and 3º years by broadcasting). The application of both organic and mineral fertilizers increased pH and available soil nutrient concentrations. The production of heart-of-palm of the main shoot and the first offshoot for spineless (1407 kg.ha-1) and spiny (1037 kg.ha-1) was similar for the main shoot and different for the offshoot. The treatments with manure (main plant 1551 kg ha-1 and off-shoots 3004 kg ha-1), and manure in the pit + mineral fertilizer spread (main stem 1545 kg.ha-1 and off-shoots 2986 kg.ha-1) were most productive. After 40 months the control did not produce heart-of-palm.</text>

The treatments with lime (O and 2 t of dolomitic lime/ha) showed no statistical difference. The highest dry forage yields for 'King grass' were obtained with three t of hen-dung/ha/cut although there was no difference with urea (200 kg of N/ ha/cut).

</p></text>

Abstract The production of pitahaya in Ecuador is variable in each year since it has markedly two periods in which its harvest is obtained, one is between February and March and the other between July and August. The objective was to evaluate the effect of two liquid organic fertilizers on the production of the pitahaya crop. The investigation was carried out from June to September of 2015 in the farm 'FENIX'. 300 plants of the genus Hylocereus undatus were used, the factors studied were liquid organic fertilizers (Biol and Purín) in doses of 40 and 60 L ha-1 fractionated in two applications. A completely randomized block design with five treatments and four replicates was used. The main results showed that the organic fertilizer Biol in doses of 60 L ha-1, obtained the best results in all the evaluated variables being this dose the that allowed to increase the yields of the pitahaya culture, reaching a yield of 7924 kg ha-1.
