                <text>RESUMO Em face de características relacionadas à infraestrutura, situação edáfica, hídrica e social, peculiares do semiárido brasileiro, é precípua a utilização de sistemas de cultivo alternativos que considerem tais características, inclusive a qualidade da água disponível. Dentro desta lógica, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos do estresse salino sobre as variáveis de produção e pós-colheita de flores de girassóis cultivadas em um sistema hidropônico alternativo de baixo custo. Utilizou-se de delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, analisado em esquema fatorial 4 x 3, com três repetições; os tratamentos consistiram na utilização de quatro níveis de salinidade da solução nutritiva (1,7 – testemunha; 4,3; 6,0 e 9,0 dS m-1) na produção de três cultivares de girassol (sol noturno, bonito de outono e anão de jardim). Verificou-se que, mesmo sob efeito da salinidade da solução nutritiva até o nível de 9 dS m-1, o número de pétalas e a duração pós-colheita mantiveram-se dentro dos padrões comerciais para as cultivares “Sol-Noturno” e “Anão-de-Jardim”.</text>

                <text>O uso de fitorreguladores que estimulam maior crescimento radicular pode favorecer a absorção de fósforo em arroz cultivado no sistema de terras altas. Objetivou-se avaliar o crescimento aéreo e radicular de arroz submetido a diferentes doses de fósforo na presença e ausência de bioestimulante. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação da Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas-UNESP, em Botucatu-SP. Os tratamentos constaram de 6 doses de P na semeadura (0, 12,5, 25, 50, 100 e 200 mg dm-3), na presença e ausência de Stimulate® aplicado via sementes (cultivar Primavera). Aos 78 dias após emergência, as plantas foram cortadas na altura do colo para determinação da área foliar e matéria seca de folhas e colmo. As amostras de raízes coletadas no mesmo dia tiveram o diâmetro médio radicular e massa da matéria seca determinadas. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições, em esquema fatorial 2x6. Foram feitas análises de variância e regressão, e ajustaram-se equações lineares e quadráticas significativas até 5% de probabilidade pelo teste F, que apresentaram os maiores coeficientes de determinação (R2). Com o aumento das doses de P, a produção de massa e área foliar das plantas de arroz foi menor na presença do bioestimulante. Para o acúmulo de fósforo na parte aérea e determinações do sistema radicular, comportamento semelhante foi observado. Conclui-se que o uso de Stimulate® no tratamento de sementes, tanto para a produção de fitomassa como nas determinações do sistema radicular, foi eficiente apenas em baixas quantidades de adubo aplicado.</text>

                <text>: Plantas exóticas utilizadas na arborização urbana podem ter um importante papel na conservação de aves em ambientes urbanos quando oferecem algum tipo de recurso. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a disponibilidade de frutos de Michelia champaca na área urbana de Uberlândia, bem como seu consumo por aves. O estudo foi desenvolvido no período de junho de 2008 a outubro de 2009 em três áreas verdes urbanas. Para a análise do consumo dos diásporos (sementes ariladas) por aves foram realizadas 167 horas de observação em 14 indivíduos e a disponibilidade de diásporos foi estimada por meio da contagem de frutos abertos visíveis em 34 indivíduos da espécie vegetal. Frutos maduros estiveram disponíveis em pelo menos uma das áreas ao longo de praticamente todo o período do estudo, inclusive em meses da estação seca, sendo a frutificação mais abundante em fevereiro de 2009. Foram registrados 149 eventos de alimentação (EA) realizados por 20 espécies de aves (3 ordens, 6 famílias, 15 gêneros). Não houve diferença significativa entre as áreas no número de diásporos consumidos (H=0,77; gl=2; p=0,68) nem no número de EA (H=1,40; gl=2; p=0,49). Na comparação do número de EA dos principais consumidores não houve diferença significativa entre as áreas (H= 3,19; gl=2; p=0,19). Em relação aos hábitos alimentares, houve predomínio de espécies onívoras (n=12; 60%), seguidas de espécies insetívoras (n=6; 30%). Não houve registros de interações agonísticas entre os consumidores dos frutos de M. champaca. Os resultados indicam que esta espécie vegetal pode atuar como fonte alternativa de recurso alimentar para a avifauna local, uma vez que seus frutos ficam disponíveis durante a maior parte do ano.</text>

                <text>El sorgo azucarado (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) es uno de los cultivos bioenergéticos más promisorios en el noroeste argentino y se utiliza actualmente como cultivo complementario a la caña de azúcar. El manejo agronómico del cultivo implica la utilización de fertilizantes sintéticos, principalmente nitrogenados, a fin de suplir sus requerimientos nutricionales y optimizar los rendimientos del cultivo. Sin embargo, teniendo en cuenta el elevado coste energético de estos fertilizantes, su manejo en forma eficiente resulta de fundamental importancia. El uso indiscriminado de ellos no solo ocasiona un deterioro físico, químico y biológico del suelo, sino que además la fertilización nitrogenada es una de las prácticas agrícolas con mayor impacto sobre el calentamiento global debido a su influencia en las emisiones de óxido nitroso (N2O). Una alternativa ecológica y sustentable para reducir el uso de los fertilizantes nitrogenados es la utilización de bacterias promotoras del crecimiento vegetal (PGPB), capaces de estimular el crecimiento y desarrollo de los cultivos a través de diferentes mecanismos de acción. Azospirillum es uno de los géneros de bacterias PGPB más estudiados, siendo la cepa A. brasilense Az39 la más recomendada en nuestro país para la formulación de biofertilizantes en cultivos no leguminosos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la cepa A. brasilense Az39 como un potencial biofertilizante para el cultivo de sorgo azucarado. A tal efecto se realizaron bioensayos de inoculación bajo condiciones de invernáculo, en los que se evaluó la capacidad de la cepa Az39 de mejorar la emergencia, como así también de colonizar y promover el desarrollo y crecimiento del cultivo. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que la inoculación de semillas de sorgo azucarado con la cepa A. brasilense Az39 aumenta la emergencia de plántulas y promueve el crecimiento y desarrollo tanto de la parte aérea como del sistema radicular a partir de los 42 DPI. Este efecto promotor del crecimiento estuvo asociado a la presencia de la cepa Az39 colonizando el suelo rizosférico y casi todos los tejidos de las plántulas, tanto de manera endofítica como superficial.</text>

                <text>The beetle Xylotrechus arvicola is a destructive pest in vineyards (Vitis vinifera) in the main wine-producing areas of the Iberian Peninsula. X. arvicola larvae bore into the grapevine wood-making galleries, thus damaging the plant both directly and indirectly; the latter through the proliferation of wood fungi, which can invade the inside of the plant, decreasing the quality and quantity of its production. The susceptibility of X. arvicola larvae to five coleopteran toxic Cry proteins (Cry1B, Cry1I, Cry3A, Cry7A, and Cry23/37) was evaluated under laboratory conditions in order to deepen the knowledge of the effect of these proteins on this insect throughout its biological development. Cry7Ab and Cry1Ba were the most effective in controlling X. arvicola larvae due to the significant reduction in larvae survival (32.9 and 25.9 days, respectively), and by causing serious alterations in the larvae during the remaining months of their development. The developmental stage of the prepupal and pupal stages was not affected by the previous ingestion of Cry proteins. The Cry proteins tested could be applied to control X. arvicola larvae since they were able to kill them and cause serious alterations in the larvae during the remaining months of development that followed. The data presented suggest that these Cry proteins can be used as bioinsecticides against the larvae of this insect, applying them only at the moment when the larvae hatch from the egg outside the grapevine wood (this would only be useful and justified if the economic threshold is exceeded) in order to avoid the rapid evolution of resistance against these toxins since not all of the larvae were killed and thus increase vine wood protection.</text>

                <text>Indicators of environmental policies in force in Mexico, fossil fuels will continue to be used in industrial sectors, especially marine fuels, such as marine diesel oil, in port systems for some time. Considering this, we have evaluated several methods corresponding to a top-down system for determining fuel consumption and sulfur dioxide atmospheric emissions for the port of Veracruz in 2020 by type of ship on a daily resolution, considering a sulfur content of 0.5% mass by mass in marine fuel. After analyzing seven methods for determining sulfur dioxide atmospheric emission levels, Goldsworthy’s method was found to be the best option to characterize this port. The port system has two maritime zones, one of which is in expansion, which represented 55.66% of fuel consumption and 23.05% of atmospheric emissions according to the typology of vessels. We found that higher fuel consumption corresponded to container vessels, and tanker vessels represented higher atmospheric emission levels in the berthing position. The main differences that we found in the analysis of the seven methods of the top-down system corresponded to the load factor parameter, main and auxiliary engine power, and estimation of fuel consumption by type of vessel.</text>

                <text>Wheat and rice are two main staple food crops that may suffer from yield losses due to drought episodes that are increasingly impacted by climate change, in addition to new epidemic outbreaks. Sustainable intensification of production will rely on several strategies, such as efficient use of water and variety improvement. This review updates the latest findings regarding complementary approaches in agronomy, genetics, and phenomics to cope with climate change challenges. The agronomic approach focuses on a case study examining alternative rice water management practices, with their impact on greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity for ecosystem services. The genetic approach reviews in depth the latest technologies to achieve fungal disease resistance, as well as the use of landraces to increase the genetic diversity of new varieties. The phenomics approach explores recent advances in high-throughput remote sensing technologies useful in detecting both biotic and abiotic stress effects on breeding programs. The complementary nature of all these technologies indicates that only interdisciplinary work will ensure significant steps towards a more sustainable agriculture under future climate change scenarios.</text>

                <text>Abundantes estudios desarrollados en suelos con texturas gruesas muestran incrementos significativos en la producción de trigo al incrementarse la oferta de nitrógeno (N) del suelo y en algunos casos respuestas positivas al agregado de azufre (S). No obstante, la relación entre respuestas a ambos nutrientes y las condiciones de respuesta a la fertilización azufrada no son consistentes. El objetivo de este trabajo fue cuantificar la respuesta de cultivos de trigo a la fertilización con N y con NS y su relación con algunas propiedades edáficas en suelos arenosos. El estudio se desarrolló en 34 sitios de producción de trigo bajo prácticas de labranza cero en la región de la pampa arenosa (Argentina). Se evaluaron 3 tratamientos de nutrición: i) control (sin fertilizar), ii) 140 kg de N ha-¹ [N suelo (0-40 cm) + N fertilizante], iii) 140 kg de N ha-¹ [N suelo (0- 40 cm) + N fertilizante] + 12 kg de S ha-¹. En todos los sitios se observó respuesta significativa al agregado de N con un incremento promedio de 949 kg ha-¹ con respecto al tratamiento control. Para S, si bien la respuesta media fue de 232 kg ha-¹, sólo en el 38% de los casos (13 sitios) se observaron aumentos de rendimiento por la adición de dicho nutriente, relacionándose positivamente con la respuesta a la fertilización con N. Esta respuesta fue independiente de los contenidos de materia orgánica (MO) (p = 0,61), de S-S0(4) ²- (p = 0,29), de N-N0(3) - (p = 0,47) disponibles al momento de la siembra o de arena de los suelos (p = 0,90). No obstante, la respuesta disminuyó en la medida que se incrementaron los rendimientos máximos. Se concluye que en sitios deficitarios en N, la respuesta al agregado de S es de mayor magnitud y frecuencia en condiciones de productividad limitada.</text>

                <text>RESUMEN La variabilidad espacial del suelo puede ser alterada por prácticas agrícolas. La comprensión de la estructura espacial y la variabilidad de las propiedades del suelo es vital para implementar prácticas agrícolas sostenibles. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la variabilidad espacial de propiedades relevantes del suelo a escala de campo, bajo diferentes usos del suelo (pastizales frente a cultivos), en tipos de suelos contrastantes ubicados en la región pampeana de Argentina. En cada sitio se ubicaron dos lotes adyacentes con suelos bajo uso diferente. En cada lote, se recogieron muestras de suelo superficial (0-20 cm) de una cuadrícula regular con 100 puntos. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos, multivariados y geoestadísticos de algunas propiedades del suelo. El pH tuvo una baja variabilidad espacial a cortas distancias, mientras que el P extraíble del suelo tuvo la mayor variabilidad (CV = 47-84%). El contenido de carbono orgánico en el suelo (COS) y la distribución del tamaño de las partículas mostraron un coeficiente de variación constante, independientemente del tipo de suelo o el uso de la tierra. El cultivo continuo tendió a aumentar la variabilidad del P extraíble del suelo y de la resistencia a la penetración. El contenido de COS mostró autocorrelación espacial significativa en la mayoría de los sitios. Se propone una distancia promedio de 70 m cuando el propósito del muestreo es obtener submuestras de suelo independientes. Estos resultados tienen implicaciones para el manejo sitio específico del cultivo, ya que pueden ayudar en la optimización del muestreo del suelo.</text>

                <text>Resumen El propósito de este artículo es analizar la exposición a plaguicidas y cuidados de la salud, en el contexto de las prácticas productivas y reproductivas de la vida cotidiana de horticultores del Cinturón Verde de Córdoba (CVCC), Argentina, desde los dominios individual, particular y general como marco comprensivo de los procesos de determinación de salud. Se implementó un estudio analítico explicativo que incluyó el uso de metodologías mixtas entre 2013 y 2017. Se efectuó un análisis de triangulación de resultados provenientes de las vertientes cuantitativas y cualitativas. Se observó que el Modelo Productivo Agrícola Dominante determina el deterioro de las condiciones productivas y la exposición a plaguicidas de la población hortícola del CVCC. Los deficientes sistemas de regulación del uso de la tierra, débil legislación y control acorde al contexto, por parte del Estado, inciden en la vida cotidiana y obturan las prácticas individuales protectoras de la salud de los horticultores.</text>
