<text>The Programa Nacional de Produção e Uso de Biodiesel (PNPB) (National Programme for Biodiesel Production and Use) was created for the production of biodiesel in a sustainable way, and it adopts as its guidelines the creation of jobs and income, social inclusion, focusing on family farming, on production of oil and raw materials and reducing regional disparities. In this context, the general purpose of the study is to analyze the family farming on PNPB in the region of Quixadá (in the State of Ceará), based on the dimensions of local sustainable development. The research is classified as an exploratory and descriptive research to be developed from a qualitative approach. The survey’s resulting data were analyzed according to content analysis. The results show that, from the perspective of local sustainable development, the PNPB has weaknesses that vary from administrative and bureaucratic processes, financial incentives, lack of infrastructure, investment in technology and machinery and training, incentives in social networks and cooperatives, actions aimed at environmental education, political movements social inclusion, and valorization of local culture. Farmers admitted that there is a Government effort and focus to provide increased income for farmers in this region but, due to these weaknesses, it is evident that there is no sustainable development in its full dimensions, causing discrepancies from the farmer’s results and the objectives stipulated in PNPB. Therefore, it is necessary to create policies that encourage the participation of all in decision making and involvement of PNPB.</text>

<text>During the initial phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, accurate tracking has proven unfeasible. Initial estimation methods pointed toward case numbers that were much higher than officially reported. In the CoronaSurveys project, we have been addressing this issue using open online surveys with indirect reporting. We compare our estimates with the results of a serology study for Spain, obtaining high correlations (R squared 0.89). In our view, these results strongly support the idea of using open surveys with indirect reporting as a method to broadly sense the progress of a pandemic.</text>

This work presents and discusses the carbon isotope data obtained from the analysis of human bone remains from 25 individuals of the locale of Sierra Colorada (Salitroso lake basin), 19 of which have been dated directly by 14C-AMS to between ca. 2750 and 300 cal. BP. This information enables us to examine diet composition through the Late Holocene and to compare the δ13C values within sex and age categories at intra-population level. We have also examined the chemical, elemental, and isotopic properties of bone samples in order to evaluate the degree of preservation of the primary isotopic signal and their suitability as palaeodiet indicator. As a contribution to isotope ecology, we supply new δ13C values for local samples of plants and guanacos. The results obtained highlight the importance of terrestrial ecosystems in the diet of these populations and their low or negligible intake of marine resources.</text>

The aim of this paper is to present the first preliminary results of the systematic archaeological research carried out in the Lago Tar and Lago San Martin basins (49° 7´ S, 72° 11´ O), focusing on the distributional aspects of the record. In order to discuss patterned differences in the space use by prehistoric hunter-gatherers, the information is organized following the main ecologic units (steppe, forest, and the corresponding ecotone). Stable isotope data (δ13C and δ15N) from guanaco (Lama guanicoe) bone samples are also reported as a first step in the understanding of the regional isotopic ecology. On the basis of some differences in the spacial distribution of artifacts it can be proposed that the higher intensity of human use was concentrated on the eastern shore of Lago Tar and around Cerro Cach Aike. Such intensity decreases westward (southern shore of the Lago San Martin). The occupation history of these spaces began around 9700 years BP, following a highly punctuated pattern until historic times. The paper ends with a comparison between the archaeological record of Lago Tar and Lago San Martin basins with other southern Patagonia cordillerean lacustrine basins in order to discuss the prehistoric peopling of the region.</text>

This research provides scientific and methodological bases for territorial diagnostics, related to the causal effect of elevated expressways on their immediate surroundings. To achieve this, historical and normative background is used, but also, the open data processing and the use of econometric tools that measure impact. The results identify 11.893 households affected by noise pollution, reduction in buildability, reduction in property value and increase in the probability of larceny or robbery. The city of Buenos Aires is the main centrality of the region in terms of employment, production and services of the country. This condition underpins the usefulness of expressways in terms of economics and mobility; however, it faces challenges of environmental impact and quality of life, which must be prioritized within the framework of climate change and the vulnerability agenda of populations. This document also analyses the evolution of the city model with motorways, their transformations and the future possibilities of these infrastructures in urban environments. Optimizing them, replacing them with tunnels or demolishing them, are the main actions that cities are developing, specifically for the re-qualification of central areas, coastal fronts and neighborhood environments.</text>
