In this context, the continuous monitoring of air quality and the modelling of complex air pollution patterns is critical to protect population and ecosystems health. Availability of air quality observations has terrifically improved in the last decades allowing – nowadays – for extensive spatial and temporal resolved analysis at both global and local scale. Results show a marked decrease in nitrogen dioxide concentrations during the lockdown and an overall strong positive correlation between satellite and ground sensors observations. The COVID-19 pandemic provides an opportunity to examine the impact of psychological characteristics on human adaptation under uncertainty. Hardiness, which is still controversial for its role in maintaining human mental, physical, and social health, is such a psychological characteristic. Methods. To test the hypothesis that individuals with different levels of hardiness have different attitudes towards the current COVID-19 pandemic, the present study used the Hardiness Survey by S. Maddi (modified by E. N. Osin and E. I. Rasskazova) and a special questionnaire to assess various aspects of the pandemic situation, including its characteristics and impact on various spheres of life, fears, and possibilities for coping (using a 11-point Likert scale). The study was conducted during self-isolation using the Google Form (N = 421; age 18–78 years, mean age = 40.3 ± 12.6 years; 81 % females). Results. Most Russians perceived the pandemic situation as a challenge to their capabilities. The high-risk group comprised 17 % of respondents, which indicates the need for targeted psychological assistance aimed at psychological education. High hardy Russians recognize the uncertainty and complexity of the pandemic situation, and consider it controllable. For the low hardiness group, this situation is highly uncertain, complex, unpredictable, and uncontrollable, affecting physical activity and the quality of social contacts. Besides fears for their loved ones, fear of the future is pronounced among respondents of this group. Discussion. The findings from this study are in agreement with the idea of hardiness as the ability to withstand stressful situations, while maintaining internal balance without reducing performance in activities, which indicates the predictive value of this construct. Totolian Description An account of the resource The first case of COVID-19 was registered in the Leningrad Region on March 13, 2020. The period of increasing intensity of the epidemic process lasted 8 weeks. One month after reaching the maximum incidence rate, a study was organized to determine seroprevalence to COVID-19 among the population of the Region.Objective of the study was to determine the level and structure of community immunity to SARS-CoV-2 virus in the population of the Leningrad Region in the period of intensive COVID-19 transmission.Materials and methods. The work was carried out within the framework of the Rospotrebnadzor project on assessment of community immunity to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the population of the Russian Federation. The content of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 was determined applying ELISA using a kit for the analysis of human serum or blood plasma for the presence of specific IgG to the nucleocapsid of the SARS-CoV-2 virus , manufactured by the State Scientific Center of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology (Obolensk) in accordance with the instructions for use.Results and discussion. The study has showed that the herd immunity of the population of the Leningrad Region was 20.7 %. The maximum level has been established in children 1–6 years old (42.3 %) and people over 70 years old (29.0 %). The highest level of seropositivity, except for children and older people, was found among the unemployed (25.1 %). The lowest level of seroprevalence was detected in civil servants (12.8 %) and military personnel (16.7 %). It has been shown that the risk of infection increases by 1.5 times in case of contacts with COVID-19 patients. After exposure to COVID-19 virus, antibodies are produced in 82.1 % of the cases. In individuals with a positive PCR test result obtained earlier, antibodies are detected in 82.8 % of cases. The share of asymptomatic forms among seropositive residents of the Leningrad Region was 86.9 %. The results of assessing the herd immunity to SARS-CoV-2 in the population of the Leningrad Region indicate that during the period of intensive COVID-19 transmission, an average level of seroprevalence was formed. A significant proportion of asymptomatic forms of infection characterizes the high intensity of the latently developing epidemic process. The results obtained should be taken into account when organizing preventive measures, including vaccination, and predicting morbidity rates. Students (n=230) were surveyed with Likert-type, descriptive, and open-ended questions about their experiences following the transition. Clear, frequent communication between students and SDSU was identified as the most appreciated aspect of SDSU’s response. Students who reported struggling academically following the transition were more likely to be facing difficulties with finances and access to or use of online learning technology. Honors students reported fewer technology barriers and financial stressors than non-honors students. Results: The epidemiology of the 2015 MERS outbreak in the Republic of Korea remained similar to the MERS outbreaks in Saudi Arabia. In addition, strong infection control and response measures were effective in controlling the outbreak. In view of the air traffic between Singapore and MERS-affected areas, importation of MERS cases into Singapore is possible. Nonetheless, the risk of a serious public health impact to Singapore in the event of an imported case of MERS would be mitigated by its strong health-care system and established infection control practices. Discussion: The MERS outbreak was sparked by an exported case from the Middle East, which remains a concern as the reservoir of infection (thought to be camels) continues to exist in the Middle East, and sporadic cases in the community and outbreaks in health-care settings continue to occur there. The Water Poverty Index (WPI) is able to assess whether individuals possess this natural resource in satisfactory quantity and quality, for both household and community use. This work focuses on the application of WPI in João Batista Soares Agrarian Reform Settlement, Carapebus, Brazil. The settlement has environmental problems such as degraded soil, lack of vegetation, and it is considered environmentally vulnerable. Through the application of the WPI, we conclude that the settlement also has water shortage, as the index result was 42.5%, a rate which reflects water insecurity. The water shortage of the settlers affects their production, earning income and quality of life. We believe that access to the settler’s rights to funding and grant can alleviate water shortage and minimize the environmental vulnerability faced by these individuals. A severe recession is expected in 2020, especially in thesecond quarter, possibly also in the third quarter.
