Public understanding, including knowledge about signs and symptoms, mode of transmission, and hygiene of COVID-19, is vital for designing effective control strategies during a public health crisis. The current study is aimed at investigating the public’s perspective about COVID-19, including their knowledge, attitude, and practices. Methods: A rapid online survey comprising 21 items was administered during the rapid outbreak of COVID-19 in Pakistan. Questions were focused on the prevention, transmission, clinical features, and control of COVID-19. In addition, the attitudes and practices of the participants were explored. Descriptive statistics, Mann–Whitney tests, Kruskal–Wallis tests, and regression analysis were carried out during data analysis. Results: A total of 1257 respondents participated in this study. Most of the respondents had good knowledge (good = 64.8%, average = 30.5%, poor = 4.7%) of COVID-19. Gender, marital status, education, and residence were observed to have a significant association with the knowledge score. A vast majority of the survey respondents (77.0%) believed that COVID-19 would be controlled successfully in Pakistan. The practices of wearing a mask (85.8%) and handwashing (88.1%) were common among the participants. Conclusion: The participants demonstrated good knowledge and reasonable attitudes and practices toward most aspects of the COVID-19 outbreak. Improvements in certain areas could be made by mass-level education. We conducted quota sampling based on the proportion of the population in each province and gender ratios in the Sixth Census and obtained a sample size of 3837. Government intervention was divided into government communication, government prevention and control, and government rescue. We used multiple regression and a bootstrap mediation effect test to study the mechanism of these three forms of government intervention on the public’s adoption of PARs. The results show that government prevention and control and government rescue significantly increased the likelihood of the public adopting PARs. Risk perception was significantly associated with the public’s adoption of PARs. The effects of government interventions and risk perception on the public’s adoption of PARs was not found to vary by region. Risk perception is identified as an important mediating factor between government intervention and the public’s adoption of PARs. These results indicate that increasing the public’s risk perception is an effective strategy for governments seeking to encourage the public to adopt PARs during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the course of the study, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the trends in the development of the global economy is examined. The main consequences of COVID-19 for the global economy that have already manifested themselves are: a fall in exchange indices; a significant decrease in oil prices and a slowdown in the development of the metal market; a reduction in production volumes; a significant decrease in revenue of airlines and maritime transport, shopping and entertainment centers, the tourism industry; a decrease in the population’s incomes; a growth in revenues of the pharmaceutical industry and the global industry of gaming, educational and other online applications; an increased investor demand for less risky assets. In this situation, the growth rate of the world economy is already decreasing (from 2.5 % to 0.6 %). In 2020, at the global level, the economic situation will be close to a recession, the losses of the world economy can reach USD2.7 trillion. For the Ukrainian economy, the crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19 is especially dangerous and can significantly shake the country’s financial and economic status: official employment and real GDP will fall, the corporate sector will suffer significant losses, the chances for a successful placement of Eurobonds will decrease, foreign investment inflow will decrease, and the national currency will become cheaper. Under the optimistic scenario, in 2020, the decline in Ukraine’s economy due to the spread of COVID-19 will amount to 4–5 % of GDP; under a worst-case scenario, 9–10 %. All of the above indicates the need for making informed decisions by the governments of the world and local authorities, which, in close cooperation with leading experts, the corporate sector and the population, should pursue an effective socio-economic policy both during the quarantine and within the next months after its completion. The prospects for further research are to analyze the economic consequences of the quarantine, the losses of the world economy after overcoming coronavirus disease, and real measures that have been taken to stabilize the financial and economic situation at the micro and macro levels. The aim of the study is analyzing the mechanism for tackling consequences of COVID-19 through social media and the social marketing sector. Currently, social media marketing dominates traditional marketing. Traditional marketing is much more expensive than social media marketing, which is why today most enterprises have chosen marketing in social media to intensify their business. The article analyzes the results of a European study on the use of social media in the restaurant industry. Based on the results of the study, the main stages of the customer relationship management are identified, and three general steps are formed: Step One — getting to know your customer; Step Two — customer retention; Step Three — interaction with clients. The implementation of all three stages should improve quality of servicing customers of the restaurant sector. This paper analyzes the consequences of COVID-19 for the restaurant industry and suggests the main ways to overcome them. The necessity and expediency of using social media marketing in the restaurant industry is proved. Conclusions about the feasibility of introducing special measures to normalize the financial situation, overcome the crisis and provide return on production costs are made. Among these measures, the use of social media marketing, improvement of effectiveness of advertising on the Internet and establishment of communication with customers are singled out.
