<text>Cuba has an international reputation for implementing widespread biological control of pests, and microbial biocontrol is an integral component of most pest management programs. One class of microbial pesticides however, has not been developed in Cuba, bio-insecticides based on the Baculoviridae. This class of safe and environmentally protective microbial pesticides is used ever more commonly worldwide as an alternative to chemical pesticides. The characteristics of the viruses of this family, particularly their high host specificity, safety to non-target organisms, capacity to persist in nature and create epizootics, and the economy with which they can be produced 'in vivo', all make them attractive for incorporation into pest management programs along with other pesticides developed in Cuba. The mass production technology is well understood in Cuba and biofactories already exist for a number of microbial biocontrol products. In the province of Sancti Spíritus, the Plant Protection Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, with the cooperation of the Institute for Sustainable Horticulture, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, are resuming the work which began in the 90´s to develop baculovirus products in support of sustainable agriculture in Cuba. This work is being carried out with the participation of young Canadian and Cuban students and professionals. The program includes research with the multicapsid nuclear polyhedrosis viruses of Spodoptera frugiperda (SfMNPV) and S. exigua (SeMNPV) and the search for native isolates of Baculovirus in Plutella xylostella, three priority pests in Cuba. In other jurisdictions they are well controlled by baculoviruses, and the expectation is that this same result is possible in Cuba.</text>

Abstract: Baculoviruses are insect pathogenic viruses widely used as bioinsecticides for controlling of several agricultural important pests and more recently as protein expression vectors and gene therapy vectors. One of its main characteristics is its high host-specificity including a very narrow range of insect species, which often belong to the same family. However, to understand the mechanisms involved in the definition of baculoviruses host range is necessary in order to assess the security and safety of its use and to determine the possibility of improving their properties for biotechnological applications through the construction of recombinant baculovirus with different host ranges. In the present article the main mechanisms involved in baculoviruses host range as specificity for entering into the host cells, the possibility of viral genome replication, the control of biochemical and molecular insect processes and the interactions virus-host regulating the multiplication of the infectious agent, and the prospects of applying this knowledge will be reviewed. Key words: viral infection, host range, evolution, resistance.</text>

Purpose – The coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), which emerged in the Wuhan province of thePeople's Republic of China in December 2019 and later has spread rapidly to the whole world, has aserious impact on life of people, economy of countries and activity of businesses. It is inevitable thatcoronavirus pandemic affects the independent audit processes of businesses as well as many otherfields. This study aims to provide contribution with independent auditors who have conductedaudit activities nowadays by dicussing the current and potential effects of the coronavirus on theindependent audit process and the independent audit report that is the output of this process.Design/methodology/approach – The current and potential effects were evaluated in terms ofindependent audit process and requirements of International Standard on Auditing (ISA) andexamined to what extent auditors draw attention the said effects in the independent audit reports ofthe companies subject to independent audit published on the websites www.kap.org.tr andwww.spk.gov.tr. To do this, document examination method which is one of the qualitative researchmethods in social sciences is used. The universe used in the study is whole auditor’s reports (81reports) issued as of the date of investigation made for the study.Findings – Given the current and potential effects, it is seen that coronavirus has serious effects onindependent audit process and independent auditors must consider the said effects while planningaudit process and preparing auditor’s report.Discussion – It is seen that covid-19 pandemic has important effects on audit's planning andpracticing, collecting physical evidence and independent audit process. Therefore, in order to reducethe audit risk, independent auditors should plan the audit process in accordance with this situationand reflect these effects on their report when preparing their “auditor's report”.</text>

Abstract: Flux Balance Analysis - FBA - is one of the most used techniques in prediction of microorganism bioproducts. It requires an objective function that represents a biological objective for the microorganism studied. This paper presents a new kind of objective functions based on individual physical compartment objectives present in the microorganism studied. These kind of functions were tested with a stoichiometric model, extracted from iMM904 reconstruction of S. cerevisiae and its performance is compared with the objective function mainly used in literature,  growth maximization, in anaerobic and aerobic batch conditions. The proposed objective function, in the present work, outperforms growth predictions in 10%  and ethanol predictions in 75% as compared with the results obtained by maximization of growth objective function, in anaerobic conditions. In aerobic batch conditions, the suggested objective function outperform 98% in growth predictions and 70% in ethanol predictions in comparison with growth maximization. Key words: Flux Balance Analysis, FBA, iMM904 reconstruction, Compartment based Objective Function.</text>
