Como aporte al análisis de los conflictos socio-ambientales enfrentados por comunidades mapuche del sur de Chile, ante la presión histórica sobre los territorios ancestrales ocupados por el Estado chileno y declarados como unidades de conservación natural, se realiza una discusión sobre el aporte del ecosocialismo para abordar esta problemática y sus ventajas frente a otras corrientes ambientalistas. Se hace una revisión exploratoria de algunos de los planteamientos de la ecología profunda y la ecología integral, para posteriormente identificar los elementos distintivos relevantes del ecosocialismo para la temática. De la discusión teórica propuesta se desprende la pertinencia del ecosocialismo latinoamericano como punto de partida para la generación de soluciones, que buscan mejorar la calidad de vida de las comunidades indígenas inmersas en conflictos socio-ambientales generados por la disputa de territorios donde se hace posible su existencia.

En el estado de Jalisco, el maíz y el agave tequilero son los cultivos de mayor importancia agrícola. Los suelos dedicados al cultivo de estas especies se caracterizan por presentar bajo contenido de materia orgánica y nitrógeno. La aplicación de enmiendas al suelo proporciona una fuente importante de energía y nutrientes para los microorganismos; promueve la diversidad de bacterias fijadoras de nitrógeno y bacterias nitrificantes, lo que trae como consecuencia un aumento en la disponibilidad de nitrógeno en el suelo. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el uso de dos especies de leguminosas silvestres: Lupinus exaltatus y Lupinus rotundiflorus, como abono verde (AV), y su efecto en la actividad microbiana del suelo. Se llevó a cabo un experimento de incubación aeróbica (14 días) en muestras de suelo con abono verde y sin abono verde (control); en condiciones laboratorio se monitoreo la actividad microbiana del suelo a través de la respuesta en la respiración basal, y la concentración de C y N de la biomasa microbiana. La producción de CO2 y el contenido de C y N de la biomasa microbiana presentaron diferencias significativas (P < 0.05) por efecto del abono verde. Los residuos de Lupinus son considerados de mejor calidad con respecto al residuo de Zea mays, debido al contenido de nitrógeno y la baja relación C:N. Con el aporte del AV, la respuesta de los microorganismos presentó un efecto iniciador positivo. Por lo anterior, se concluye que con la incorporación de L. exaltatus y L. rotundiflorus como abono verde al suelo, la actividad biológica del suelo aumenta y se favorece el incremento del C y N de la biomasa microbiana.

Desde el marco de la ecología de los medios, argumenta que las nociones de interfaz y plataforma constituyen herramientas propicias para comprender este tipo de fenómenos contemporáneos. El texto se organiza del siguiente modo: en primer lugar, se sitúa el objeto de estudio bajo la teoría de la no neutralidad del código, con referencias al origen y a la actualidad de la misma. En segundo lugar, se busca responder qué implica la aparición de Netflix en la historia de la mediatización audiovisual, con el objetivo de reponer el contexto mediático y dar cuenta de los múltiples vínculos que guarda con sus antecedentes históricos (en particular en lo que respecta a géneros y estilos). En tercer lugar, se despliega un análisis empírico y sincrónico de diversas interfaces de la plataforma: partiendo de la comparación en distintos dispositivos técnicos, se argumentará que no existe una única interfaz de Netflix, sino que ésta varía de acuerdo a los condicionamientos de software y hardware. El texto cierra con algunas reflexiones finales que, retomando los principales hallazgos, apuntan a mantener abierta la mirada analítica y reflexiva sobre el dinamismo de las plataformas mediáticas.[en] The article analyzes Netflix regardless of its contents. From the framework of the ecology of the media, it argues that the notions of inter face and plat form constitute propitious tools to understand this type of contemporary phenomena. The text is organized as follows: first, the object of study is placed under the theory of non-neutrality of the code, with references to its origin and actuality. Secondly, we seek to answer what the appearance of Netflix entails in the history of audiovisual mediatization, with the aim of replenishing the media context and giving account of the multiple links it maintains with its historical antecedents (in particular with regard to genres and styles). Thirdly, an empirical and synchronic analysis of various inter faces of the plat form is deployed: starting from the comparison in different technical devices, it will be argued that there is not a single Netflix interface, but that it varies according to soft ware and hardware constraints. The text closes with some final reflections that, taking up the main findings, aim to keep open the analytical and reflective view on the dynamism of media plat forms.

The study analyzed 84 specimens of Metynnis lippincottianus (Cope, 1870) (Characidae) from two environments with different degrees of impact due to a hydroeletric plant; 44 hosts from the upper Parana river floodplain (low degree of impact) and 40 from Paranapanema tributaries (Corvo and Guairacá rivers, high degree of impact). The prevalence found, among the total collected fishes, was 77.4%. One digenetic species, Dadayus pacupeva, and four nematodes, Spinoxyuris oxydoras, Contracaecum sp. (larval stage), Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus and Raphidascaris (Sprentascaris) mahnerti were identified. In the floodplain, the fishes parasitized by D. pacupeva and S. oxydoras presented better relative condition factor (Kn) than non-parasitized species. Positive correlation between Kn and abundance of these parasites was found in the same area. In the tributaries, the Kn did not differ significantly between parasitized an non-parasitized fishes, not even correlation with abundance of any parasite found.Foram coletados 84 espécimes de Metynnis lippincottianus, peixe caracídeo, em dois ecossistemas com diferentes níveis de impacto, resultante da construção de usinas hidroelétricas; 44 hospedeiros na planície de inundação do alto rio Paraná (baixo impacto) e 40 nos tributários do rio Paranapanema (rios Corvo e Guairacá) com alto impacto. Foi encontrada prevalência parasitária de 77,4% no total de peixes coletados. Uma espécie de digenético: Dadayus pacupeva e quatro de nematoides: Spinoxyuris oxydoras, Contracaecum sp. (estágio larval), Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus e Raphidascaris (Sprentascaris) mahnerti foram identificadas. Na região da planície, os peixes parasitados por D. pacupeva e S. oxydoras apresentaram melhor fator de condição relativo (Kn) quando comparado aos não-parasitados. Verificou-se correlação positiva entre o Kn e a abundância dos parasitos citados anteriormente na mesma região. En este ensayo abordaremos las problemáticas vinculadas a la manipulación de animales para la enseñanza de la biología. Partiendo de un modelo ecológico, se sostiene la hipótesis de que el empleo de animales para la enseñanza de la biología no solo no es ético, sino que tampoco es rentable, eficaz, ni favorece el desarrollo de habilidades sociales fundamentales como la empatía, llegando, incluso, a manifestarse efectos psicológicos adversos en estudiantes expuestos a dichas situaciones. Para la apoyatura de este enunciado, se acudirá a evidencia teórica, práctica y experimental. Concluimos, a partir de nuestro análisis, que la eliminación de las prácticas que involucran la manipulación de animales favorecería no solo a los mismos animales y a quienes las ponen en práctica, sino a la sociedad en su conjunto, pues se estarían formando, desde los primeros años de escolarización, sujetos con inteligencia ecológica y empatía animal, rasgos que favorecen un trato amable y ético hacia el medio ambiente.

En el contexto de una planificación que declara privilegiar los elementos de la estructura ecológica,pero que podría comprometer la provisión de suelos para soportar coberturas que ofrezcan bienesy servicios ecosistémicos, se presenta un aporte a la discusión sobre cómo lograr un balance entredensificación y provisión de estos bienes y servicios, mediante la reconstrucción de la transformación de la cobertura de un segmento de la cuenca del río Fucha en Bogotá en un lapso de 77 añosy la verificación de las relaciones de dicha transformación con los instrumentos de planificación ygestión. Los resultados obtenidos sugieren una regulación reactiva, con limitaciones para conducirla ocupación del territorio, de la que se puede esperar una acentuación de la aridez. Estos resultadossustentan las conclusiones sobre la necesidad de replantear la regulación sobre áreas consolidadas eintroducir instrumentos de gestión de la cobertura.

La producción de cacahuate es una fuente de ingresos económicos importante para Chiapas, ocupando el segundo lugar a nivel nacional como productor. Jiquipilas es uno de los municipios productores del estado, pero su rendimiento ha disminuido en los últimos cuatro años (de 2.4 a 1.45 Mg ha-1) debido al manejo intensivo del cultivo, propiciando el deterioro paulatino de las propiedades físicas, químicas y biológicas de los suelos (pérdida de fertilidad) franco arenosos en que se cultiva. Así, el manejo de los suelos se ha convertido en una necesidad de subsistencia, por lo que el propósito de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto de la incorporación de lombricomposta en el mejoramiento de las propiedades del suelo y el rendimiento del cacahuate (Arachis hypogaea L.), bajo condiciones de campo en la comunidad de José María Pino Suárez, municipio de Jiquipilas. El estudio se realizó en un solo ciclo (2016) en una parcela tradicionalmente sembrada con cacahuate. La lombricomposta se elaboró con residuos agrícolas de la región (estiércol, rastrojo de maíz y cacahuate). Se experimentó con cuatro diferentes dosis de lombricomposta (300, 225, 150 y 75 g), las cuales se complementaron con manejo agroecológico (sin insumos químicos e incorporación del deshierbe manual entre surcos como cobertura muerta); como tratamientos control se consideraron suelo con manejo intensivo (aplicación de fertilizantes, insecticidas, herbicidas sintéticos) y suelo con manejo agroecológico. La adición de lombricomposta al suelo tuvo efecto en las propiedades físicas (capacidad de campo, densidad real y en los espacios porosos); en cuanto a las propiedades químicas hubo resultados positivos en la disponibilidad de fósforo, potasio, hierro y manganeso, así como en el pH. También se obtuvieron mayores emisiones de CO2 por la actividad microbiana. La emergencia de plantas y su floración se dieron en menor tiempo con lombricomposta. Aunque se mostró una clara tendencia en el rendimiento del cultivo con la adición de lombricomposta, no se presentaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas.

En América Latina y el mundo, los pequeños agricultores, cazadores y pescadores tradicionales/artesanales contribuyen entre el 60% a 70% de la producción total, a la alimentación, y cocinas locales, regionales y mundial (Altieri & Parviz, 2008; Oxfam, 2011). La mistura de sabores, saberes, cocinas locales y regionales anida en el archipiélago de la diversidad biocultural local y regional. Las cocinas locales y regionales pueden verse y posicionarse estratégicamente como un resurgir identitario íntimamente vinculado a la consciente regeneración y crianza del paisaje biocultural espiritual, y como parte de una propuesta alimentaria sostenible.Este artículo, desde una visión panorámica, reflexiona sobre eslabones claves de una cadena que surge como parte de un paradigma alternativo; además, contribuye a potenciar el estudio multidimensional de las cocinas en relación con las culturas, ecología y medio ambiente. Se concluye que, una estrategia sostenible turismo cocina-medio ambiente-alimentación, es posible. Allí las pequeñas agriculturas son estratégicas por su potencial biocultural ecoespiritual. Contribuirían de manera realista a resolver problemas críticos como la desnutrición, la seguridad y calidad de la alimentación y regeneración del paisaje –local y regional– biocultural. Ello potenciaría, expandiría y agregaría valor al turismo sostenible en Perú.

Our global food system is characterized by an increasing concentration and imbalance of power, with trade-offs between hunger, inequality, unsustainable production and consumption, and profit. A systematic analysis of power imbalances in food systems is required if we are to meet the 2030 Agenda vision of promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns and ending hunger and poverty. Such an analysis, with a view to a transformation to more sustainable and just food systems, requires tools to be developed and tested in real-life case studies of food systems. To better understand the structures and mechanisms around power in food systems, this study applies a political ecology lens. We adapted the “power cube„ analysis framework that was proposed by the Institute of Development Studies for the analysis of spaces, forms, and levels of power. We apply the analysis of these three dimensions of power to two food systems in the tropical lowlands of Bolivia: one agroindustrial and one indigenous. After identifying food system actors, the food system spaces in which they interact, and what forms of power they use at what levels, we discuss some implications for an emerging scientific culture of power analyses in critical sustainability assessments. Mechanisms of hidden power undermine visible legislative power in both case studies, but in our example of an indigenous food system of the Guaraní people, visible power stays with a local community through their legally recognized and communally owned and governed territory, with important implications for the realization of the right to food.

Water stress caused by water scarcity has a negative impact on the wine industry. Several strategies have been implemented for optimizing water application in vineyards. In this regard, midday stem water potential (SWP) and thermal infrared (TIR) imaging for crop water stress index (CWSI) have been used to assess plant water stress on a vine-by-vine basis without considering the spatial variability. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-borne TIR images are used to assess the canopy temperature variability within vineyards that can be related to the vine water status. Nevertheless, when aerial TIR images are captured over canopy, internal shadow canopy pixels cannot be detected, leading to mixed information that negatively impacts the relationship between CWSI and SWP. This study proposes a methodology for automatic coregistration of thermal and multispectral images (ranging between 490 and 900 nm) obtained from a UAV to remove shadow canopy pixels using a modified scale invariant feature transformation (SIFT) computer vision algorithm and Kmeans++ clustering. Our results indicate that our proposed methodology improves the relationship between CWSI and SWP when shadow canopy pixels are removed from a drip-irrigated Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. In particular, the coefficient of determination (R2) increased from 0.64 to 0.77. In addition, values of the root mean square error (RMSE) and standard error (SE) decreased from 0.2 to 0.1 MPa and 0.24 to 0.16 MPa, respectively. Finally, this study shows that the negative effect of shadow canopy pixels was higher in those vines with water stress compared with well-watered vines.
