The goal of this study was to explore whether those patients experienced a worsening of their CM and, if any, the clinical predictors of migraine worsening after BT-A withdrawal.Methods: This was a retrospective, multicenter study. In particular, the following variables were collected: the mean number of headache days in the last month (NHD), the average number of painkillers taken in the last month (AC), the average number of days in which patients took, at least, one painkiller in the last month (NDM), the average intensity of migraine using the numeric rating scale (NRS) score in the last month, and the average score obtained at the six-item Headache Impact Test. Methods Sleep physiology, somatic and mood symptoms of 22 Toronto subjects, 21 of whom were healthcare workers, (19 females, 3 males, mean age 46.29 yrs.+/- 11.02) who remained unable to return to their former occupation (mean 19.8 months, range: 13 to 36 months following SARS) were compared to 7 healthy female subjects. Because of their clinical similarities to patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) these post-SARS subjects were similarly compared to 21 drug free female patients, (mean age 42.4 +/- 11.8 yrs.) who fulfilled criteria for fibromyalgia. Results Chronic post-SARS is characterized by persistent fatigue, diffuse myalgia, weakness, depression, and nonrestorative sleep with associated REM-related apneas/hypopneas, an elevated sleep EEG cyclical alternating pattern, and alpha EEG sleep anomaly. Post- SARS patients had symptoms of pre and post-sleep fatigue and post sleep sleepiness that were similar to the symptoms of patients with FMS, and similar to symptoms of patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. Both post-SARS and FMS groups had sleep instability as indicated by the high sleep EEG cyclical alternating pattern rate. The post-SARS group had a lower rating of the alpha EEG sleep anomaly as compared to the FMS patients. The post-SARS group also reported less pre-sleep and post-sleep musculoskeletal pain symptoms. Conclusions The clinical and sleep features of chronic post-SARS form a syndrome of chronic fatigue, pain, weakness, depression and sleep disturbance, which overlaps with the clinical and sleep features of FMS and chronic fatigue syndrome. In this study, it was examined as a promising resource for high-tech materials. The chemical and physical properties were determined by ASTM standards. The extractives, ash content, lignin, and alpha-cellulose were 4.55%, 2.17%, 13.78%, and 54.65%, respectively. The higher heating value and basic density obtained were 5,106 kcal/kg and 290 kg/m3, respectively. The moisture content was studied during four seasons and found to be the highest in winter (73%). Regarding the nanomechanical profiles, hardness varied from 0.16 GPa in the cortex to 0.21 GPa in the nodule. The average elastic modulus in the nodule and internode was 12.5 GPa, while in the cortex it was 7.45 GPa. Considering the high cellulose content and structural features of the lignocellulosic matrix, it could be possible to extract cellulose fibers for commercial use and crude lignin for testing new applications. Description An account of the resource Se estudió el ciclo anual del fitoplancton y los nutrientes (orto fosfatos y nitratos) en el Lago de Río Cuarto, Costa Rica, durante el período de 1984-85. Las muestras se obtuvieron con botellas Ruttner y Varn Dorm, en el centro del lago y en las estaciones litorales. El fitoplancton se concentró por sedimentación, utilizándose solución de Lugol como preservante. El conteo de las algas se hizo con una celda de Palmer-Maloney. Durante el período de estudio se identificaron 14 especies de algas siendo las algas verdes (Chlorophyta) el grupo dominante. Entre éstas la especie Mougeattia genuflexa mostró las densidades más altas. Se definió un ciclo anual en la densidad y composición del fitoplancton en relación con los cambios climáticos. Los períodos de máxima densidad poblacional coinciden con un aumento en la concentración de los nutrientes. Este aumento de nutrientes se produce como resultado del periodo de mezcla anual del lago al inicio de la época seca y también en relación con el incremento de la precipitación pluvial de la región. El índice de diversidad de Shannon-Weaver, mostró los valores más bajos durante la ocurrencia de los máximos poblacionales, como resultado del aumento de unas pocas especies altamente competitivas.
