Los cimientos conceptuales de la biología coevolutiva incluyen el papel causal de los microorganismos en las enfermedades, la ubicuidad de las simbiosis, su frecuente caracter especialista y la determinación mendeliana de los desenlaces de tales interacciones. En tanto que son el resultado de la selección natural, los cambios coevolutivos afectan los rasgos hereditarios involucrados en las respectivas interacciones. Como las especies están constituidas por poblaciones genéticamente diversas y estructuradas espacialmente, la coevolución entre dos o más especies dadas puede hacer que estos cambios coevolutivos sean cualitativa o cuantitativamente diferenciales según la localidad, originando mosaicos geográficos. La biología coevolutiva busca construir una atalaya conceptual que amarre la selección natural darviniana con la ecología. Esta nueva perspectiva permite avizorar la compleja maraña de la vida, y comprender que para conservar las especies es necesario conservar sus interacciones. En este artículo se examina la coevolución desde sus raíces darvinianas, pasando por la identificación de los elementos teóricos indispensables para su formulación, hasta llegar a su interpretación actual.     SUMMARY   Multicellular organisms require one or more coevolved ecological interactions to survive and reproduce. Coevolution, the set of reciprocal evolutionary changes between these interacting species, is a continuous process that organizes Darwinian diversity in complex biological webs. This dynamic vision tempers the conflict between Humboldt’s harmonious Nature and the warring Nature held by Darwin and other 19th century naturalists. The conceptual foundations of coevolutionary biology include the germ theory of disease, the ubiquity of symbioses, their frequent feature as specialized interactions, and the Mendelian determination of their outcomes. Those coevolutionary changes, driven ultimately by natural selection, affect hereditary traits involved in the interactions. Since species consist of genetically diverse populations with geographic structure, coevolution between two or more given species may cause qualitative or quantitative differential trait changes according to location, giving rise to geographic mosaics. Coevolutionary biology aims at building a conceptual outlook that blends Darwinian natural selection with ecology. This new perspective allows a view of a complex web of life, which will enhance our appreciation of the importance of preserving interactions as a way to preserve species. Para isso, cigarrinhas adultas foram coletadas em pastagens de grama-bermuda, Cynodon dactylon cv. Tifton 85, sem histórico da aplicação de  micoinseticidas, em 12 municípios do estado usando rede de varredura. Em laboratório, a proporção de espécies de cigarrinhas foi determinada e a mortalidade natural observada durante dez dias, sendo os exemplares mortos desinfectados e mantidos em placas de Elisa para avaliação da incidência de fungos, com posterior isolamento dos mesmos. Com base nas amostras obtidas, foram identificadas sete espécies de cigarrinhas (Notozulia entreriana, Deois schach, Deois knoblauchii, Mahanarva integra, Deois flavopicta, Deois flexuosa e Deois incompleta), sendo N. entreriana e D. schach classificadas como superfrequentes, constantes, superdominantes e superabundantes de acordo com a análise faunística empregada. Além disso, foram encontradas 15 espécies de fungos em associação às cigarrinhas (Alternaria sp., Aspergillus sp., Aspergillus niger, Bipolaris sp., Cladosporium sp., Curvularia sp., Metarhizium sp., Mucor sp., Nigrospora sp., Penicillium sp., Pestalotia sp., Pithomiices sp. e Monilia sp.), sendo a maioria delas reconhecidas como patógenos oportunistas, saprofitos ou fungos endofíticos. Alves Description An account of the resource As bebidas fermentadas de frutas são produtos promissores devido à tendência de aceitação em pesquisas de consumo, além de contribuírem para a redução de perdas pós-colheita de frutos perecíveis. Desta forma, este trabalho tem por objetivo estudar a produção do fermentado de abacaxi ‘Pérola’ utilizando a levedura de panificação e avaliar sua composição físico-química confrontando com a legislação vigente acerca de bebidas. O suco de abacaxi utilizado na produção da bebida, foi caracterizado físico-químicamente quanto aos parâmetros: umidade, cinzas, sólidos solúveis, acidez titulável e pH. No processamento da bebida, utilizou-se uma concentração de levedura de 10g/L e concentração de sólidos solúveis de 14°Brix. Foi realizado o estudo cinético do processo de fermentação alcoólica, monitorando as seguintes variáveis: concentração de biomassa, concentração de etanol, sólidos solúveis, pH e acidez titulável. O fermentado de abacaxi ‘Pérola’ apresentou um teor alcoólico de 5,9°GL, enquadrando-se dentro das especificações da legislação a cerca de fermentados de fruta, e sua composição foi semelhante à de vinhos de uva. El Instituto de Oceanología del Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Ambiente, ha trabajado desde 1988 en el aislamiento y conservaci ón de bacterias marinas que sean capaces de degradar el petróleo. Actualmente, cuenta con cuatro bioproductos degradadores de petróleo en medio marino denominados BIOIL, K-BIOIL, BIOIL-FC e IDO-225. En el presente trabajo, se demuestra por Espectroscopia Infrarroja de las muestras extraídas a los 3, 6, 9, 12 y 15 d de contacto de las células húmedas inmovilizadas de Bacillus alcalophilus cepa IDO-225 en el medio de degradación con el naftaleno, un hidrocarburo del petróleo, que estas son capaces de degradar el naflateno como única fuente de carbono y energía. La degradación de este hidrocarburo por las células inmovilizadas de esta cepa se lleva a cabo mediante un mecanismo que se basa en un modelo cinético de segundo orden correspondiente a un mecanismo de metil-oxidación y b-oxidación, al igual que las células libres de dicha cepa, pero con la diferencia de que en el caso de las células inmovilizadas, el término cuadrático (metil-oxidación) es mayor y el término lineal (b-oxidación) es menor que en las células libres. En este mecanismo se produce acetil-CoA, el cual se incorpora al ciclo de los acidos tricarboxílicos para formar dióxido de carbono, agua y coenzimas reducidas, las cuales se dirigen a la cadena de transporte electrónica para obtener energía en forma de ATP y garantizar la síntesis de compuestos esenciales y la obtención de energía.
