Crop demands for irrigation require different technologies to optimize the use of water. Regulated Deficit Irrigation (RDI) is a strategy that enables a significant reduction of water application without affecting the crop yield and quality, with the advantage of being a tool for control of vegetative growth. The present study was conducted in Sesquile, Cundinamarca (Colombia) between 2015 and 2016. The objective was to evaluate the quality and development of pear crop (Pyrus communis L. cv. Triumph of Vienna) on field conditions, using three treatments of 100%, and 25% of water requirement (ETc) and no irrigation, applied at the rapid fruit growth stage. The mid day stem water potential, plant water relations, pressure-volume curve, fruit yield and quality were evaluated. There were no significant differences in the yield and quality of the fruits among the different irrigation treatments. The trees had the mechanisms of osmotic adjustment, which allowed water stressed trees to cope with irrigation restrictions during the rapid fruit growth stage without affecting the yield.

Este trabalho teve como principal objetivo uma análise descritiva da distribuição espacial de sistemas agroflorestais no Estado de São Paulo, a partir de informações disponibilizadas pelo Censo Agropecuário de 2006. Partindo-se da distribuição apresentada por esses sistemas, buscamos discutir sua adoção e relação com o uso do solo em diferentes regiões, bem como discorrer sobre seu potencial como sistemas de produção e de restauração em áreas protegidas na paisagem rural do estado. Os resultados apontam uso incipiente dos Sistemas Agroflorestais à época do levantamento, e concentração dos mesmos em regiões específicas, com destaque a alguns municípios. Isso provavelmente está associado à concentração de assentamentos rurais e pequenas propriedades, à adequação de áreas de preservação permanente e reservas legais e ao interesse na implantação de modelos agroflorestais de produção com algumas espécies (principalmente exóticas) em particular.

O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar as reflexões de um grupo de docentes e pesquisadores, com diferentes formações, perfis e áreas de atuação, sobre o processo de construção de uma nova agenda de pesquisa e extensão interdisciplinares, com vistas à transdisciplinaridade. Para tanto, descreve um processo de concepção e elaboração de projetos, baseado no conceito de pesquisa-ação e tendo a interdisciplinaridade como meta, na caracterização de sistemas socioecológicos complexos. Os projetos realizados enfocaram a resiliência da agricultura familiar, na região de fronteira agrícola intitulado Portal da Amazônia (MT). Discute-se, a partir desse processo, a possibilidade de construção dialógica de projetos, narrando seus principais desafios na busca pela real indissociabilidade entre o ensino, a pesquisa e a extensão. Conclui-se que as escolhas relativas aos fundamentos teóricos e metodológicos que embasaram os projetos foram essenciais para a construção do fazer acadêmico interdisciplinar, e que o processo de pesquisa-ação, conforme construído e aqui descrito, possibilitou a relação dialética entre a transdisciplinaridade e as três dimensões do conhecimento acadêmico, pauta constante nas discussões atuais sobre a avaliação do Ensino Superior no Brasil.

The maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) and the crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous) are two South American canids with large overlap in their geographic distribution. However, there are few data on the comparative ecology of these species. The aim of this research was to quantify the diet of these two canids living in syntopy at three levels: frequency of occurrence, minimum number of individuals preyed and estimated biomass ingested. Additionally, seasonality in the consumption of major groups of food items and aspects of prey size distribution were assessed. The study took place in the Experimental Station of Itapetininga, São Paulo State, Brazil. General results showed that both canids are omnivorous in accordance with other studies. By occurrences, the wolves consumed vegetal and animal food in similar proportions, whereas the foxes consumed more animals, mainly insects. In contrast, both canids ingested mainly animal food if biomass is considered. The maned wolf consumed more wolf's fruit (Solanum lycocarpum) and small mammals in the dry season, and miscellaneous fruits during the wet season. The crab-eating fox also ingested more miscellaneous fruits in the wet season, but the insects were mostly consumed during dry months. The crab-eating fox is more generalist than the maned wolf, but the wolf seems better able to handle distinct prey types. The distribution of prey sizes suggested separate food niches: while the maned wolf consumed a larger spectrum of prey sizes, especially small vertebrates between 10.1 and 100.0 g, the crab-eating fox consumed smaller prey, mainly insects between 0.01 and 0.1 gEl aguara guazú (Chrysocyon brachyurus) y el zorro del monte (Cerdocyon thous) son dos cánidos sudamericanos cuyas distribuciones geográficas se sobreponen extensamente. Sin embargo, hay pocos datos sobre la ecología comparativa de estas especies. El objetivo de esta investigación fue cuantificar la dieta de estos dos cánidos en sintopia en cuanto a tres niveles: frecuencia de ocurrencia, número mínimo de individuos depredados y biomasa ingerida estimada. Además, se evaluaron la estacionalidad en el consumo de grupos de presas mayores y la distribución de tamaño de las presas consumidas. El estudio tuvo lugar en la Estación Experimental de Itapetininga, en el Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Los resultados mostraron que ambos cánidos son omnívoros. El aguara guazú consumió partes vegetales y animales en proporciones similares, pero los zorros consumieron más presas animales, principalmente insectos. En relación a la biomasa de las presas, ambas especies consumieron presas animales. El aguara guazú consumió muchos frutos de Solanum lycocarpum y micromamíferos en la estación seca, mientras que los frutos misceláneos dominaron la dieta durante la estación lluviosa. El zorro del monte también ingirió más frutos misceláneos en la estación lluviosa, mientras que los insectos fueron principalmente consumidos en los meses secos. Coffee cultivation is one of the main agricultural activities in Colombia, which increases the well-being of coffee-growing families. In order to determine the impact of coffee production, the capital endowment and well-being of coffee-growing families in the municipality of Pitalito, in the south of Colombia, were analyzed using the community capital index (CCI). Likewise, the relationships between the variables were identified through a Pearson correlation analysis, and the increase in well-being was identified and modeled by employing structural equations. Milpa Alta tiene un bosque comunal que genera beneficios ambientales para la Ciudad de México. Los objetivos del artículo son describir la cotidianidad, las motivaciones y los retos que enfrentan las mujeres que conservan el bosque como parte de los programas de Pago por Servicios Ambientales (psa) en Milpa Alta. También se analiza cómo influye el género en la toma de decisiones alrededor de estos programas, para lo cual se utiliza el enfoque de la ecología política feminista. La información recabada para la elaboración de esta investigación se obtuvo a través de observación participante, entrevistas a profundidad y grupos focales. Los resultados indican que las mujeres se involucran en los programas de psa porque consideran que tienen el compromiso de cuidar el bosque, además de ser ésta una alternativa para contar con un trabajo remunerado, no obstante que integrarse a estos programas implica para estas mujeres algunos riesgos además de la falta de un seguro médico. Asimismo, se encontró que en los programas de psa en Milpa Alta las mujeres no participan plenamente. El aporte de este trabajo es que muestra cómo influye el género dentro de los programas de psa. Sin embargo, para futuras investigaciones sería importante incluir la visión que tienen los tomadores de decisiones.

Introduction: Ultra-processed foods have industrial formulations high in sugar, saturated fat, sodium, stabilizers and preservatives with aggressive marketing. The objective of the study was to identify foods with excessive nutrient content according to the PAHO 2016 nutrient profile model. Material and methods: Study descriptive carried out from July to November 2016 in the nutrition laboratory (Zamorano University, Honduras). An exhaustive sample was made of the different ultra-processed foods offered in the main sales centers of national representativeness. A total of 520 food products were grouped into eleven categories, according to the PAHO 2016 nutrient profile model. The nutritional labels were photographed, reviewed and a database was created in Excel © (Microsoft, 2010) with 28 variables (category, type, name, company, country of origin, serving size, caloric intake, reported nutrients). Results: The products came from 21 countries and 138 companies; 75% of the total products examined per serving had excess sugars, 37% sodium, 33% total fats and 30% contained sweeteners (other than sugar). The 96% of calorically sweetened soft drinks, chocolates, caramels and calorically sweetened dairy beverages presented excess sugars content; 92%, 88% and 95% of the cheeses with salt added, sausages and snacks contained excess sodium; 82% and 71% of cookies were identified with excess sugars and fats, respectively. The 91% of cereals with added sugars had excess sugars and 64% sodium. Conclusions: Regulate and/or decrease the advertising of ultra-processed foods; implement mandatorily the content of added sugars and adopt the front labeling.

The efficiency of composting processes with and without the addition of Californian red worms (Eisenia foetida) was evaluated, using manure of dairy cows to generate organic fertilizer. Several parameters were assessed as physio-chemical indicators of maturity, such as temperature, pH, C/N ratio, phytotoxicity and macro and micronutrients at 25 and 54 ws (mature and stored products, respectively). A linear model was used in the statistical analysis, with four replicates that included as fixed effects, the composting systems and time. At 25 wk, both systems reduced the C/N ratio to values of 15.5 in vermicompost and 17.1 in semi-compost. The content of total N, N-NO3, Ca and some micronutrients also increased. K and Na concentrations were higher in the compost than in the vermicompost. The mean of pH presented differences in the two systems of decomposition. The germination index, using lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa L.) var. Grandes Lagos in vitro, of the decomposition products increased in week 25, indicating the degree of maturity reached. The effect of storage was greater stability of the products by reducing the C/N ratio to 8.13 for vermicompost and 7.05 for compost, as well as an increase in available N content in the form of N-NO3 in the case of compost and in the content of Ca, Mg, Na, Zn, Mn and Cu in both systems.Se evaluó la eficiencia de los procesos de compostaje con y sin la adición de lombriz roja californiana (Eisenia foetida) usando estiércol de vacas lecheras para la generación de abonos orgánicos. Como indicadores de madurez se evaluaron varios parámetros fisicoquímicos tales como temperatura, pH, relación C/N, fitotoxicidad y macro y micronutrientes durante 25 y 54 semanas (productos maduros y almacenados, respectivamente). En el análisis estadístico se usó un modelo lineal con cuatro repeticiones que incluyó como efectos fijos los sistemas de compostaje y el tiempo. Se realizó análisis de varianza y comparación de medias mediante contrastes ortogonales. A las 25 semanas ambos sistemas redujeron la relación C/N a valores de 15,5 en vermicompost y de 17,1 en semi-compost, además se incrementó el contenido de N-total, N-NO3, Ca y de algunos micronutrimentos. La concentración de K, y Na fueron más altos en compost que en vermicompost. La media de pH presentó diferencia para los sistemas de descomposición. El índice de germinación usando semillas de lechuga (Lactuca sativa L.) var. Grandes Lagos in vitro de los productos de descomposición se incrementó en la semana 25 indicando el grado de madurez alcanzado. El efecto del almacenamiento permitió alcanzar una mayor estabilidad de los productos al reducir la relación C/N a 8,13 para vermicompost y de 7,05 para compost, así como un incremento en el contenido de N disponible en forma de N-NO3 en el caso del compost y en el contenido de Ca, Mg, Na, Zn, Mn y Cu en ambos sistemas.

The present paper is the first in a series of publications that aim to share the results of an ongoing research project that explores the interconnection possibilities, both in theory and application, of the fields of ecofeminism and queer ecologies. This particular chapter offers a brief survey of the first of these fields: ecofeminism. The author tries to provide a brief critical look into the main tenets and evolution of the field. Este artículo es el primero en una serie de publicaciones que busca socializar los resultados de un proyecto de investigación en curso, el cual explora las posibilidades de interconexión (tanto en la teoría como en su aplicación) de los campos del ecofeminismo y las ecologías queer. Este capítulo en particular ofrece una vista panorámica del primero de estos campos: el ecofeminismo. La autora presenta una perspectiva corta y crítica de las principales propuestas y de la evolución del campo.
