                <text>Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need for further research on its manifestation in pregnant women, since they are particularly prone to respiratory pathogens, like severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), due to physiological changes during pregnancy. Its effects on infants born to mothers with COVID-19 are also not well-studied, and more evidence is needed on vertical transmission of the disease from mother to infant and on the transmission of IgG/IgM antibodies between mother and infant. We aim to systematically review and evaluate the effects of COVID-19 among SARS-CoV-2-positive pregnant women in late pregnancy and neonates with SARS-CoV-2-positive pregnant mothers using blood assays to find indicators of maternal and neonatal complications. We searched for original published articles in Google Scholar, Medline (PubMed), and Embase databases to identify articles in the English language from December 2019 to July 20, 2020. Duplicate entries were searched by their titles, authors, date of publication, and Digital Object Identifier. The selected studies were included based on patient pregnancy on admission, pregnant mothers with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 virus, maternal/neonatal complications, and blood test results. We excluded duplicate studies, articles where full text was not available, other languages than English, opinions, and perspectives. The meta-analysis using the Generalized Linear Mixed model was conducted using the “meta” and “metaprop” packages in R code. Of the 1,642 studies assessed for eligibility, 29 studies (375 mothers and neonates) were included. Preterm birth rate was 34.2%, and cesarean section rate was 82.7%. Maternal laboratory findings found elevated neutrophils (71.4%; 95% CI: 38.5–90.9), elevated CRP (67.7%; 95%: 50.6–81.1), and low hemoglobin (57.3%; 95% CI: 26.0–87.8). We found platelet count, lactate dehydrogenase, and procalcitonin to be less strongly correlated with preterm birth than between high neutrophil counts (P = 0.0007), low hemoglobin (P = 0.0188), and risk of preterm birth. There is little evidence for vertical transmission. Elevated procalcitonin levels (23.2%; 95% CI: 8.4–49.8) are observed in infants born to mothers with COVID-19, which could indicate risk for neonatal sepsis. These infants may gain passive immunity to COVID-19 through antibody transfer via placenta. These results can guide current obstetrical care during the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.</text>

                <text>Se realizaron dos ensayos en segmentos de microcuencas en condiciones de producción de la Provincia de Pinar del Río: uno en Campo Hermoso y el otro en La Comunidad La Leña, Cuba. En ambas localidades se rotó el frijol variedad Bat 304 y Tomeguin 93, seguidos de maíz asociado con Mucuna deeringianum y se establecieron bordes de desagüe protegidos con barreras vivas de Leucaena leucocephala y Gliricidia sepium. Las pérdidas de suelos se estimaron en piscinas de sedimentación y limnígrafos Valday en Campo Hermoso y en el caso de La Leña sólo se determinaron las variaciones de la pendiente y el espesor máximo de sedimentos (EMS) al final de cada ciclo. El suelo fue un Ferralítico Cuarcítico (Ultisol), la fertilización se realizó de acuerdo a sus reservas, la preparación y labores culturales con tracción animal. Los resultados al cabo de cinco años mostraron una reducción en las pérdidas de suelos por debajo del umbral permisible (5 t/ha), aumento de la altura de las terrazas debido a los sedimentos acumulados, mayor disponibilidad de agua en la sección receptora, mayor cobertura en el período lluvioso, disminución del efecto erosivo de la lluvia, reciclaje de nutrimentos a través de los abonos verdes e incremento de los rendimientos respecto a las áreas donde no se realizaron prácticas de manejo. Se concluyó que el manejo integrado de los diferentes factores en laderas con pendientes mayores de 5%, es necesario para la conservación de suelos y agua.</text>

                <text>Durante el trienio 1993-1995, se evaluaron el efecto de las asociaciones de maízleguminosas, sobre la conservación de la fertilidad del suelo y su impacto, como cultivos precedentes, sobre el rendimiento del frijol. Se estudiaron en Suelos Oxisoles y en parcelas de escurrimientos (Suelos Ultisoles), las siguientes asociaciones: para el agroecosistema del Sur de La Habana, caracterizado por suelos ultisoles (parcelas de escurrimiento): maíz; maíz+caupí; maíz+frijol de terciopelo; maíz+canavalia; maíz+crotalaria; maíz+sesbania. Para el agroecosistema de San Juan y Martínez: maíz; maíz+caupí; maíz+frijol de terciopelo; maíz+canavalia; millo y barbecho. Los resultados señalaron que las asociaciones del maíz con leguminosas beneficiaron las propiedades del suelo evaluadas, y que combinadas con el laboreo mínimo, en las condiciones de los suelos Oxisoles, complementaron el efecto benéfico de éste. El impacto de estas coberturas como precedente del cultivo del frijol fue significativo sobre su rendimiento con respecto al maíz solo.El balance de los nutrimentos se vio favorecido por el reciclaje efectuado por los abonos verdes utilizados, con la reducción del nitrógeno en hasta un 25 %, y en un 100 % para el P2O5 y K2O, teniendo en cuenta el alto abastecimiento de estos suelos. En los Ultisoles donde se establecieron las coberturas en parcelas de escurrimiento, además de repetirse los efectos de éstas, se vio el impacto antierosivo de las mismas, al disminuir las pérdidas de suelos con respecto al barbecho y al testigo con maíz solo.</text>

                <text> A interação genótipo x ambiente influencia grandemente a seleção de genótipos e o sistema de cultivo adotado deve levar em consideração a resposta do genótipo ao manejo empregado. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a interação genótipo x ambiente através da análise GGE biplot de quatro genótipos de milho (duas variedades crioulas, uma variedade melhorada e um híbrido comercial) em resposta a formas de adubação (orgânica e química) sob diferentes ambientes. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial 5x4x3, com quatro repetições, com a combinação dos fatores: cinco ambientes (Imbaú em 2006/2007; Alvorada do Sul em 2008/2009; e Londrina em 2007/2008, 2008/2009 e 2009/2010); quatro genótipos de milho (Caiano, Asteca, DKB 390 e IPR 114); e três formas de adubações (sem adubação, adubação orgânica e adubação química). Considerando o rendimento para Alvorada do Sul, o híbrido DKB 390 em cultivo com cama de frango é uma alternativa para pequenos produtores visando maiores produtividades. Para Londrina, a utilização de IPR 114 propicia maior produtividade, no sistema testado, entretanto para Imbaú deve-se utilizar Asteca. A avaliação dos efeitos da interação genótipo x ambiente baseada na análise GGE Biplot possibilitou identificar através do comportamento genotípico as variedades promissoras e estáveis, bem como os ambientes que otimizam o desempenho das variedades, sendo um método recomendado para melhorar a eficiência da identificação de genótipos em ambientes específicos.</text>

                <text>A utilização de biofertilizantes é interessante para a agricultura, pois além de ser uma alternativa econômica e ambiental favorável, aproveita resíduos orgânicos e reduz a aplicação de fertilizantes minerais. Objetivou-se com este trabalho, avaliar o efeito de doses de biofertilizante de origem bovina (efluente de biodigestor) aplicadas no solo e de dois níveis de irrigação na cultura da alface. O experimento foi conduzido em ambiente protegido, em vasos, aplicando-se ao solo diferentes doses de biofertilizante de origem bovina obtido de reator anaeróbio (10, 20, 40 e 60 m3 ha-1) e adubação mineral como testemunha em dois níveis de irrigação calculados com base em 50 e 100% de evapotranspiração de referência. As plantas de alface foram analisadas em: altura, número de folhas, diâmetro de copa, massa de matéria fresca e massa de matéria seca da parte aérea. Os tratamentos com biofertilizante apresentam melhores resultados que a adubação mineral, e tem aumento com a elevação das doses de biofertilizante; a maior dose (60 m3 ha-1) apresentou os melhores resultados em todas as variáveis analisadas. Para a massa seca, a adubação mineral apresentou maiores valores. Os níveis de irrigação não influenciaram no crescimento das plantas.</text>

                <text>In early spring 2020, New York's K-12 schools, colleges, and universities went into lockdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and faculty began converting face-to-face classes into distance learning classes. Teachers and college faculty learned to use new technology to continue instruction for the remainder of the academic year. Learning curves were steep for some, as using technology proved to be overwhelming. Students who registered for in-person classes had to learn in an online environment. Pre-Health Science majors who rely heavily on practical, hands-on courses to gain the necessary skills required for their career participated in virtual anatomy and physiology laboratories. Clearly, face-to-face courses are not always possible; therefore, it is imperative to know the best practices of online teaching and learning.</text>

                <text>The negative effects of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have impacted the world economy due to the absence from work because of SARS-CoV-2 infection in workers, among other reasons. However, some economic areas are essential to society and people must continue working outside the home to support economic reactivation; their serological profile could be different from that of the global population. Cross-sectional study: Workers from health, construction, public transportation, public force, bike delivery messengers, independent or informal commerce areas, and residents of Bucaramanga or its metropolitan area were invited to participate. All participants self-completed a virtual survey and a blood test was taken to assess IgG and IgM with the ARC COV2 test. Seroprevalence was estimated considering a complex survey design, correcting for a finite population effect and adjusting for test performance. A total of 7045 workers were enrolled; 59.9% were women and most were residents of Bucaramanga and working in health occupations. The global adjusted seroprevalence was 19.5% (CI: 95% 18.6–20.4), being higher for Girón (27.9%; 95% CI: 24.5–31.30). Workers with multiple contact with people during working hours or using public transportation to go to work had a higher frequency of seropositivity for SARS-CoV-2. The seroprevalence among workers living in these four municipalities from the Colombian northeast area is still low.</text>

                <text>Caracterización bioquímica de microorganismos  rizosféricos de plantas de vainilla con potencial como  biofertilizantes. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la  actividad bioquímica in vitro con potencial biofertilizante en  microorganismos rizosféricos de plantas de vainilla. Se realizó  una confirmación fenotípica de la identidad taxonómica  de los microorganismos más eficientes en las diferentes  pruebas. Los aislamientos se llevaron a cabo durante el  año 2011 en cultivos de vainilla bajo cobertizos de techo-  sombra en el municipio de Sopetrán (Antioquia, Colombia).  Los solubilizadores de fosfato inorgánico más efectivos  correspondieron a dos bacterias, una del género Serratia y  la otra identificada como Pseudomonas koreensis. Entre los  microorganismos solubilizadores de fosfato orgánico el más  eficiente fue el hongo Plectosphaerella cucumerina. Los  celulolíticos más efectivos fueron los hongos Penicillium  griseofulvum y Aspergillus fumigatus; por su alta actividad  proteolítica/amonificante se identificaron las bacterias del  complejo Bacillus cereus y Serratia sp. Finalmente, entre  las bacterias asimbióticas fijadoras de nitrógeno tres cepas de  Pseudomonas koreensis, crecieron rápida y abundantemente  en el medio selectivo libre de nitrógeno. Para estas bacterias,  mediante PCR específico se detectó, la presencia del gen  NifH responsable de esta actividad metabólica. La diversidad  funcional de los microorganismos encontrados, abre la  posibilidad de ser empleados como biofertilizantes en el  cultivo de vainilla.</text>

                <text>The Tierra del Fuego (TDF) archipelago is recognized as part o the last places on Earth that may still be considered wild. However, this condition may be threatened by the large number of invasive species present on the archipelago. These species can have significant effects on the ecology of the invaded ecosystems, at the genetic as well as at population, community and ecosystem levels. The aim of this study is to, by a bibliographic review, systematize existing information on the ecological impacts these species would be having on the TDF archipelago and detect information gaps in order to orient future research and effective management programs on these species. We restricted our review to vertebrate, non-marine invaders. We determined which species have invaded TDF, described their impacts on the archipelago and evaluated their potential impacts; this last issue was determined by reviewing some of the impacts these species have had in other geographic areas. Our findings indicate that at least nine vertebrate species (Salmo trutta, Salvelinus fontinalis, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Castor canadensis, Ondatra zibethicus, Oryctolagus cuniculus, Pseudalopex griseus, Mustela vison and Sus seroja) have wild populations established away from human settlements in TDF. There is some scientific evidence on ecological impacts on the area for only five of these invaders, with the American beaver (Castor canadensis) being the species monopolizing the greatest number of studies. These results contrast with the recognition, both in TDF and worldwide, of the potential of most of these species to cause significant ecological impacts, which makes it unlikely that the lack of verified impacts on TDF reflects an absence of significant effects of these invaders on the archipelago. We suggest that future research should focus on determining population density and distribution of these and other (i.e., feral species) invasive vertebrates, as well as their impacts mainly on freshwater systems, vegetation, soil and ground nesting birds. Regarding management, interactions between invaders must be considered. Whether the TDF archipelago is especially vulnerable to biological invasions remains to be proven, however, future introductions should be carefully weighedEl archipiélago de Tierra del Fuego (TDF) ha sido reconocido como parte de los últimos lugares del planeta que aún pueden considerarse silvestres. Sin embargo, esta condición puede verse amenazada por el gran número de especies invasoras presentes en el archipiélago. Estas especies pueden tener efectos significativos sobre la ecología del sistema invadido, tanto a nivel genético como poblacional, comunitario y ecosistémico. El objetivo de este estudio es, mediante una revisión bibliográfica, sistematizar la información acerca del impacto ecológico que estas especies tienen sobre el archipiélago de TDF y detectar vacíos de información, para orientar la investigación futura y planes efectivos de manejo de estas especies. Restringimos nuestra revisión a invasores vertebrados no marinos. Determinamos cuáles especies han invadido TDF, describimos sus impactos sobre el archipiélago y evaluamos sus impactos potenciales, ésto último mendiante una revisión de los impactos que estas especies han tenido en otras zonas geográficas. Nuestros resultados indican que, al menos, nueve especies de vertebrados (Salmo trutta, Salvelinus fontinalis, Oncorhynchus mykiss, Castor canadensis, Ondatra zibethicus, Oryctolagus cuniculus, Pseudalopex griseus, Mustela vison y Sus scrofa) cuentan con poblaciones silvestres establecidas, lejanas a zonas pobladas en TDF. Solo para cinco de éstas existe evidencia científica sobre sus impactos ecológicos en el área, siendo el castor americano (Castor canadensis) la especie que acapara la mayor cantidad de estudios. Estos resultados contrastan con el reconocimiento, tanto en TDF como a nivel mundial, del potencial de estas especies de provocar impactos ecológicos significativos, que hace poco probable que la falta de impactos comprobados en TDF se deba a una ausencia de efectos significativos de estos invasores en el archipiélago. Sugerimos que la investigación futura se aboque a determinar la densidad y distribución poblacional de estos y otros (i.e., especies asilvestradas o baguales) vertebrados introducidos, así como sus impactos principalmente en los sistemas de agua dulce, la vegetación, el suelo y las aves que nidifican sobre él. Respecto al manejo, las interaciones entre invasores deben ser consideradas. Si es que el archipiélago de Tierra del Fuego es especialmente vulnerable a las invasiones biológicas debe aún ser probado, sin embargo, introducciones futuras debieran ser sopesadas cuidadosamente</text>
