The use of organic wastes plays an important role in agriculture due to its potential for reducing cost of production and minimize environmental impacts. The work was carried out to evaluate the effect of mineral fertilizer and filter cake doses on sugarcane yield and soil chemical characteristics. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse in a randomized block design arranged in a factorial outline with five doses of filter cake (0; 9.25; 18.5; 27.75 e 35 g pot-1), three levels of mineral fertilizer (0; 50 e 100% of the recommended dose) and three replicates with one plant per plot. The results showed that filter cake addition favored soil fertility, increasing the contents of both macro and micronutrients and decreasing Al concentration. Filter cake increased pH while mineral fertilizer acidified the soil. Sugarcane plants responded to filter cake application by increasing the uptake of phosphorus, potassium and copper. The use of 9.25 g of filter cake associated with 50% of the mineral fertilization usually recommended is sufficient in order to increase sugarcane yield while reducing costs with mineral fertilizers.</text>

ABSTRACT: This article treats the question of ecology in a not so common perspective: that of modern nihilism. This perspective is understood, in general, as life without meaning, and in particular, as a lack of an ultimate and transcendent meaning for life. The lack of meaning would be the root of the lack of respect and love for nature. Therefore, if human life does not have meaning, how would nature have meaning? The ecological crisis would be, therefore, an aspect of a larger and deeper crisis: the crisis of meaning. But where does the crisis of meaning come from? It comes from, in depth, a secularist vision of the world. Such a vision, radically anthropocentrist and dispensing with God, ends up delivering the world to the potent will of the human being, including the form of active or destructive nihilism. The “indepth ecology”, in terms of 'biocentric” or “ecocentric”, is not a true alternative, for remaining still imprisoned, like anthropocentrism, to a basically imanentist perspective of the world. The true exit is found “up above”: it consists of recognizing the “creatureness” of things, while being dependent on the Creator and possessing, therefore, its own value, that the human being is called to respect and that it must give account.</text>

Abstract This paper results from a theoretical reflection on aesthetics, aesthetics of consumption and aesthetics and advertising. It is a consequence of a research in progress in GESC3 (Center of Semiotic Studies in Communication, Culture and Consumption) and in CEDE (Center of Aesthetic Studies), whose works look for joining the multidisciplinary thinking among consumption studies and advertising. These researches are identified by empiricism, founded in semiotic methods and in ethnography in the last decade. All researches show us that nowadays consumption is essentially an aesthetic consumption, perceived by the visual or sensorial aspects in the material offers, or in the conceptual exploitations of gender, ethnicity, age and so many others aesthetically aspects emphasized by advertising campaigns, as well as by the several brands' expressivities.
