Palabras claves: formaciones vegetales, Índice de Campo Continuo de Vegetación, MODIS, rangos ambientales One of the most effective ways of evaluating the historical changes in the properties from the vegetation cover to great scale is by techniques of remote perception, by spectral vegetation indexes. Considering the absence of information on the dynamics of the vegetation in Cuban protected areas, the present study has as objective to evaluate the variability of Continuous Vegetation index in the natural vegetal formations in 10 National Parks of Cuba, from 2000 to 2010, as well as the impact of climatic change on these formations. The product of the satellite MODIS was used for a year of the index in 11 images with a resolution of 250 m and 1000 random points were generated in each study area. The multitemporal analysis included the comparison of the percentage of cover of the vegetation during 11 serial years. They were considered the environmental ranges of each formation and the changes of these were evaluated in two future projections: bc26bi50 and bc85bi50 for the scenario 2050. In the evaluated decade, the vegetation covering varied slightly, in five National Parks it increased and in five it reduced. In each National Parks the cover of vegetation was constant with small fluctuations. Significant changes were not detected between the current environmental ranges and the future projections. To know which the historical space changes are in the Cuban terrestrial ecosystems, as well as their possible affectation for the climatic change, it can be fundamental when undertaking actions for their protection.

<text>Abstract Portugal has some rehabilitation centers for wild animals, which are responsible for the rehabilitation and reintroduction of birds, among other animals, into the wild. Coccidian parasites of these wild birds in rehabilitation centers are especially important because these centers can introduce coccidian species into new environments through the reintroduction of their respective hosts. In this context, the current study aimed to identify intestinal coccidia from wild birds at two rehabilitation centers for wild animals located in two municipalities of Portugal. Eighty-nine wild birds of 9 orders and 11 families were sampled, of which 22 (25%) were positive for Coccidia. Avispora spp. were found in raptors. Sporocysts of Sarcocystinae subfamily were recovered from owls. An Isospora sp. was found in Turdus merula Linnaeus, 1758, and an Eimeria sp. was found in Fulica atra Linnaeus, 1758. Among the coccidian species, Avispora bubonis (Cawthorn, Stockdale, 1981) can be highlighted. The finding of this species indicates that transmission of coccidians from the New World to the Old World may be occurring, potentially through dispersion by Bubo scandiacus (Linnaeus, 1758) through Arctic regions or by means of anthropic activities, and/or through other unknown mechanisms.</text>

<text>The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic found Italy unprepared to cope with the large concentrated numbers of patients infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who often required hospital admission and in many cases intensive care. This pandemic very quickly overwhelmed the Italian Healthcare System. This paper describes the Active Home Surveillance System (Operations Center for Discharged Patients; COD19) and the Home Hospital Care System (COD20) and presents the clinical data collected and the level of user satisfaction with the service. The Operations Center for Discharged Patients (COD19) is an active surveillance service for home-care patients which involves: (1) monitoring critical clinical conditions; (2) recognizing social and health issues; (3) and providing necessary clinical services in the form of a telemedicine service. COD20 is a patient-specialist video consultation service that allows to perform an assessment of clinical conditions and any need to visit; defining the priority of access to specialist outpatient visits in the presence or manageable with the new video consultation model. This service was immediately necessary during the COD19 monitoring. COD19 and COD20 are based on the Amazon Web Services Serverless certified platform. The COD19 and COD20 platform can be intrinsically utilized for future epidemic outbreaks; also those with non-respiratory transmission; and is sufficiently flexible to adapt to natural catastrophes</text>

ABSTRACT DNA barcode of life is a global initiative to populate a global database of short, standardized DNA fragments from most eukaryotic species to facilitate the identification and understanding of the world’s biodiversity. In the eight years following its proposal, the topic of DNA barcoding remains controversial in the scientific literature due, in part, to a lack of consensus on how DNA barcoding is defined and what activities are included under this title. In the present paper we review the definition, methods and goals of DNA barcoding, and highlight how data generated by various DNA barcode of life campaigns may also be used to address fundamental and novel questions in ecology, evolution and conservation. Keywords: Bioinformatics, Databases, DNA barcode of life, Evolutionary genetics, Molecular diagnosis, Phylogenetic systematics, Taxonomy.</text>
