It is estimated that 50 million people in the world live with dementia, 60–70% of whom suffer from Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Different factors are involved in the development of AD, including a reduction in the cholinergic neurotransmission level. The Amaryllidaceae plant family contains an exclusive, large, and still understudied alkaloid group characterized by a singular skeleton arrangement and a broad spectrum of biological activities. The chemistry and biodiversity of Ecuadorian representatives of the Phaedranassa genus (Amaryllidaceae) have not been widely studied. In this work, five Ecuadorian Phaedranassa species were examined in vitro for their activity towards the enzymes acetyl- (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE), and the alkaloid profile of bulb extracts was analyzed by GC-MS. The species Phaedranassa cuencana and Phaedranassa dubia showed the most AChE and BuChE inhibitory activity, respectively. To obtain insight into the potential role of the identified alkaloids in these inhibitory effects, docking experiments were carried out, and cantabricine showed in silico inhibitory activity against both cholinesterase structures. Our results show that Amaryllidaceae species from Ecuador are a potential source of new drugs for the palliative treatment of AD.

En condiciones de disturbio mínimo, los suelos de los ecosistemas forestales tienen tasas de infiltración altas, y por lo tanto, la magnitud de la escorrentía y la erosión es baja, situación que puede revertirse por el fuego. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el efecto de tres niveles de severidad de incendios en la escorrentía y producción de sedimentos, mediante simulación de lluvia en encinares de la Sierra Madre Oriental. Por medio de árboles de regresión se identificaron las características de la superficie del suelo que más influencia tienen sobre ambos procesos. La escorrentía promedio, la escorrentía máxima y la producción de sedimentos fueron mayores en áreas con severidad de incendio alta, que en las áreas con severidad moderada y áreas sin quemar. Las variables de con más repercusión fueron la rugosidad de la superficie del suelo, la pendiente y las coberturas de mantillo y fragmentos de rocas. Se concluye que la severidad de incendios es fundamental para entender los procesos hidrológicos superficiales y de erosión, y que las características de la superficie del suelo modificadas por el fuego, como la cobertura y la microtopografía afectan la escorrentía y producción de sedimentos en áreas quemadas. Los resultados son útiles para identificar áreas prioritarias para la restauración de suelos y definir acciones de mitigación de la erosión.

The objective was to review the potential effects of adding anthocyanin delphinidin-3-O-sambubioside (DOS) and cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside (COS) of HS in animal diets. One hundred and four scientific articles published before 2021 in clinics, pharmacology, nutrition, and animal production were included. The grains/concentrate, metabolic exigency, and caloric stress contribute to increasing the reactive oxygen species (ROS). COS and DOS have antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, and anthelmintic activities. In the rumen, anthocyanin might obtain interactions and/or synergisms with substrates, microorganisms, and enzymes which could affect the fiber degradability and decrease potential methane (CH4) emissions; since anthocyanin interferes with ruminal fatty acids biohydrogenation (BH), they can increase the n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), linoleic acid (LA), and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in milk and meat, as well as improving their quality. Anthocyanins reduce plasma oxidation and can be deposited in milk and meat, increasing antioxidant activities. Therefore, the reduction of the oxidation of fats and proteins improves shelf-life. Although studies in ruminants are required, COS and DOS act as inhibitors of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACEi) and rennin expression, regulating the homeostatic control and possibly the milk yield and body weight. By-products of HS contain polyphenols as calyces with positive effects on the average daily gain and fat meat quality.

Se realizó un estudio de sucesiones primarias sobre roca en el páramo de Chingaza (Alto delIndio) teniendo en cuenta los patrones de diversidad, rasgos de historias de vida y nutrientes.Se trabajaron dos rocas, cada una dividida en cuatro sectores. El sector uno está en la partesuperior de la roca, donde la pendiente es de 75% y la roca está más expuesta, en los siguientes7070Resúmenes sectores la pendiente y la roca desnuda disminuyen hasta llegar al sector cuatro, donde la pen-diente es de 25% y la cobertura del la roca es de 100%. Se evaluó la composición y abundanciade las especies, con los métodos de punto centrado, línea intercepto y cuadrantes. El métodode cuadrantes registró un mayor número de especies (riqueza) en todos los sectores. Se encon-tró que las áreas más diversas están hacia la mitad de la roca, (sector 3 - roca 1 o sector 2 -roca 2), mientras que los sectores menos diversos están hacia los extremos superiores (sector1 -roca 1) o inferiores (sector 4 -roca 2) de los sitios de trabajo. El análisis de correspondenciamostró que las especies relacionadas con los sectores 1 y 2 son principalmente criptógamas.Las especies relacionadas en el sector tres son tanto criptógamas como fanerógamas, y en elsector cuatro se agrupan principalmente las especies fanerógamas. Se plantea un modelo con-ceptual del proceso sucesional primario teniendo en cuenta los rasgos de historias de vida y losfactores que dirigen la sucesión en sus diferentes estados.

En los últimos años, la agricultura de los Andes ha mostrado mayor sensibilidad al cambio climático, favoreciendo procesos de erosión del suelo, retroceso de glaciares, pérdida de cobertura vegetal, incremento en la intensidad de lluvias y alteración en la dinámica de los cultivos de la región como: papa, quinua, maíz, entre otros. Lo que motivó que, muchos autores desarrollen simulaciones de modelos regionales para estimar el índice de vulnerabilidad de estos sistemas agrícolas ante estos eventos climáticos, permitiéndoles otorgar una data climatológica más confiable en presencia de vientos cálidos y secos. En el presente artículo de revisión, se detallan los principales aportes brindados por diversos investigadores respecto al impacto del cambio climático en la agricultura andina. Según los antecedentes recopilados se concluye que, el cambio climático en los Andes provocará que países como Brasil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana y Colombia, incrementen su temperatura local, potencial de evapotranspiración y escasez de agua, ocasionando la pérdida de cultivos importantes como el arroz. En contraste, países como Perú, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia y Uruguay registrarán temperaturas más bajas que afectarán su producción y rendimiento en cultivos como la quinua, papa, tarwi, entre otros.

Al oeste de la ciudad de Cartagena, en el paraje de Galifa se localiza una pequeña cuenca coluvial por donde discurre la Rambla del Portús originando una abundancia de recursos hídricos en el subsuelo que han sido tradicionalmente aprovechados a través elementos elevadores como norias y pozos de los que todavía quedan abundantes testimonios materiales y mantienen sus acuíferos en buen estado. Las norias (aceñas) movidas por tracción animal, constan de un sencillo engranaje que hace girar la rueda sobre el pozo, desplazando unas largas maromas de esparto en las que se fi jan los arcaduces, confi gurando una tradicional noria de rosario. Una vez extraída el agua se almacenaba en la balsa, construida con gruesos muros, desde donde se distribuye para el riego de las tierras de un solo propietario. Los pozos, protegidos por un brocal, son de uso comunitario y están destinados al abastecimiento de agua en las labores domésticas (bebida, aseo personal, lavado de ropa,…) y abrevadero de animales. Algunas de estas actividades se realizan en el entorno del propio pozo como lo evidencian las pilas para lavar y los bebederos adosados a los laterales del mismo.

A comienzos de la década de 1980, la seguridad medioambiental no formaba parte de las corrientes prevalentes en los estudios internacionales de seguridad; un mainstream del que sería sin embargo complicado imaginar que no formara parte en la actualidad. Aunque continúa desarrollándose y avanzando en la agenda política, la seguridad medioambiental ha pasado de ser inicialmente un campo controvertido y debatido a ser considerado un agravante de conflictos o condiciones preexistentes y de ahí a tener entidad propia, impulsado por preocupaciones existenciales de primer orden, como el cambio climático en la época del Antropoceno. Las abejas de las orquídeas, propias de la región neotropical, parecen haber aparecido recientemente entre el piedemonte de la cordillera de los Andes y la Amazonía. Además éstas abejas de lengua larga y vuelos amplios llaman la atención por sus características biológicas, fisiológicas, ecológicas y comportamentales que comparadas con el resto de las tribus más cercanas a ellas (las abejas corbiculadas: Meliponini, Bombini y Apini) presentan diferencias importantes. Debido a esto y a que son importantes polinizadores, es de especial interés establecer sus patrones de distribución, particularmente en Colombia, debido a las características geográficas del país. Con base en el material de euglosinos depositados en la colección del LABUN, referencias bibliográficas, características morfológicas y comporamentales de la tribu, así como la localización geográfica y altitudinal de las especies, se desarrolló un análisis de correspondencia para determinar cómo las diferentes variables podrían estar implicadas en la distribución de los euglosinos en Colombia. Los resultados del análisis multivariado muestran que no hay una estrecha relación de las especies de euglosinos a las regiones naturales que ocupan, sino que dentro de las variables consideradas, el tamaño corporal (implicado en capacidad de vuelo y la termorregulación), la estructura social (asociada a aprovechamiento y optimización de recursos en el hábitat) y la longitud de la lengua (relacionada con la preferencia y toma de néctares), generan la mayor variabilidad de la muestra. De acuerdo a las características morfológicas y comportamentales analizadas se propone un patrón biogeográfico para la distribución de las abejas euglosinas en Colombia.

El presente trabajo tiene como propósito revelar los principios que, desde la transición energética, deben desarrollarse en Iberoamérica para garantizar el transporte urbano sostenible. En el mismo se encuentran incluidos los principios de movilidad presentados en diversos proyectos y acuerdos Europeos, con miras a disminuir los efectos del cambio climático producto de los vehículos de combustión. La priorización de estos principios en función de la consulta a expertos realizada para la implementación en la región. Se priorizan de tres (3) grupos de principios que permitirán el desarrollo transporte urbano sostenible hacia la anhelada transición energética.
