                <text>O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção de adubo orgânico de resíduos domiciliares, por meio da integração de compostagem e vermicompostagem, com e sem esterco bovino nesses processos. Foram realizadas duas etapas experimentais: na primeira, testou-se a termoestabilização dos resíduos e estabeleceram-se condições propícias para a introdução das minhocas; na segunda, aos 27 dias de termoestabilização, os resíduos resultantes da primeira etapa foram colocados em um recipiente de 9 dm³, com e sem minhocas, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. Aos 19, 55 e 69 dias, avaliaram-se as taxas de reprodução e sobrevivência das minhocas adultas e os atributos químicos do composto com e sem minhoca. As minhocas sobreviveram e se reproduziram nos substratos, com maior taxa de multiplicação no substrato com esterco. A utilização dos resíduos orgânicos de origem domiciliar, para a produção de insumo, é tecnicamente viável, tanto por meio da compostagem, quanto da vermicompostagem. A adição de esterco não reduziu o tempo de maturação do composto. À exceção do K e Mg, que tiveram seus teores alterados, a integração dos processos de compostagem e vermicompostagem, com e sem esterco, produziu adubos com características químicas similares.The objective of this work was to evaluate the production of organic amendment from home residues by integration of composting and vermicomposting processes with and without bovine manure. Two experimental steps were adopted: in the first one, thermal stabilization of the residues and adequate conditions were set up for earthworm introduction; in the second step, at 27 days of thermal stabilization, residues remained from the first step were placed in a 9-dm³ container, with and without earthworms, in a completed randomized experimental design of four replicates. Evaluations were made at 19, 55, 69-day period for reproduction and survival rate of adult worms, and chemical attributes of the compost with and without earthworms. Earthworms survived and reproduced in the substrates, and manure gave the highest reproduction rate. The utilization of organic home residues for production of amendment is technically viable by means of composting or vermicomposting. Addition of doses of manure did not decreased the time for compost maturation. Except for the alteration in the levels of K and Mg, the integration of composting and vermicomposting processes yielded products with similar chemical composition.</text>

                <text>Introducción. El crecimiento de la población y el consumo de fuentes de proteína como la carne de pollo, ha maximizado la generación de residuos avícolas (pollinaza), esto conlleva a desarrollar alternativas de manejo eficiente para la conversión de estos residuos en subproductos como los fertilizantes orgánicos. Numerosas investigaciones concluyen el efecto notable de la composta obtenida de residuos avícolas sobre el desarrollo y crecimiento de las cosechas, que aportan alto contenido de nutrimentos esenciales como enmienda en la agricultura agroecológica dentro de la economía circular y el desarrollo sustentable de la producción. Objetivo. Realizar una revisión sobre los planes de manejo de los residuos provenientes del sector avícola a través del compostaje para su uso en la agricultura en la región de Córdoba, Veracruz, México. Desarrollo. El estudio se llevó a cabo entre enero y junio de 2020, a través de una exhaustiva búsqueda bibliográfica y el análisis de experiencias locales en la producción de abonos orgánicos con campesinos. En esta revisión y con el trabajo de campo, los resultados establecieron que en la región es posible obtener diversos tipos de abono con la incorporación de excretas de aves, y las tecnologías de producción de composta, lombricomposta y bocashi de forma individual o en mezcla con otros subproductos regionales como los derivados de la industria azucarera, café, pecuaria etc. Se obtienen nutrimentos como nitrógeno de 2,08-2,34 %, fósforo 4,01-4,27 %, potasio 2,37-4,56 %, calcio 10,36-12,93, y magnesio 0,90-1,16 %, disponibles para su uso. Conclusión. Los subproductos avícolas tienen un gran potencial para generar alternativas de reúso mediante tecnologías de aplicación rural sin una inversión significativa y estrategias de manejo de residuos.</text>

                <text>Neste trabalho, foi avaliada a viabilidade do uso de composto de lodo de esgoto, proveniente de estação de tratamento de esgoto, como fertilizante alternativo para o cultivo inicial de eucalipto.                 <text>In the sustainable organic waste management context, this study was carried out to explore the potential of easily available composts and organic by-products for Pinus halepensis forestry in Mediterranean areas. The study consisted in four experiments using locally abundant organic waste: experiments I and IV evaluated their suitability as fertilizers for nurseries and pine replanting respectively; experiment II considered vermicompost efficiency as a root-growth promoter; experiment III assessed the aptitude of organic waste as a component of forestry substrates. Different plant measurements, morphological attributes and analytical determinations were used to assess seedling quality and to evaluate substrates and fertilizers' aptitude. Fertilization experiments run under nursery conditions showed that organic waste produced plantlets with similar morphological and nutritional states to mineral products with good quality standards. In pine replanting, organic fertilization clearly increased soil organic matter levels, enhancing soil nutritional and structural conditions. When evaluating different mixtures as substrate, no large differences appeared among treatments, except for the seedlings grown in virgin or recycled coconut fiber, where greater aerial development was achieved. Further research is needed to comprehend why the use of vermicompost as a root-growth promoter did not produce the expected effects. The obtained results indicate that organic by-products and composts can substitute the mineral fertilizers and substrates usually employed in the Mediterranean Region in P. halepensis forestry to contribute to develop a local circular economy.</text>

                <text>Bismuth and its compounds have been known since ancient times and now are widely used in practice in various fields. Bismuth use in medicine can be traced back to the Middle Ages, and its wide application is due to its very low toxicity - for most bismuth compounds it is less than for sodium chloride. Bismuth and its compounds, in particular salts, are used in medical practice in the treatment of diseases such as spirochetosis, gastric and duodenal ulcer, leishmaniasis and coronaviral infection, as well as in cancer therapy. In addition to solid preparations liquid peroral pharmaceutical forms have been developed for the treatment of diarrhea, colitis, ulcers etc. Bismuth preparations are used in stomatology for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of paradontium. The review considers the syntheses and properties of bismuth complexes with natural and synthetic porphyrins, which are used in medicine and other fields of science and technology. Considerable attention is paid to the structure features of bismuth porphyrins complexes, their dimeric structures, and the influence of various extra ligands. The counterion nature and structure make a substantial contribution in solving the problem of complexes stability. The central bismuth atom in these complexes extends far above the plane of the macrocycle due to the large ionic radius. Thus, the counterions action on the conformation, physicochemical properties and stability of metal porphyrins complexes is shown. A separate section is devoted to unique and interesting properties of bismuth porphyrins complexes, such as fluorescence and color variation of crystals.</text>

                <text>Objective: To evaluate the difficulties in the process of buying/selling organic products from family farming for school meals in 21 municipalities in southern Brazil and to take actions to overcome them. Methods: This is a qualitative and quantitative study through semi-structured interviews with 111 key informants involved in school meals. The interviewees were asked about the difficulties of buying/selling organic food for school meals and about the actions developed and/or in planning to overcome these problems. Descriptive analysis of closed questions was performed based on frequency distribution and content analysis with coding and categorization of open questions. Results: Most municipalities (n = 19) did not buy organic food from family farming. The limited availability of the supplier market and the low production of organic foods were the most reported difficulties. On the other hand, the high costs of the products and the lack of interest by the public management in the acquisition of organic foods were difficulties little mentioned. Respondents highlighted that buying/selling could increase with the strengthening of participatory certification processes and if those involved had more information about the benefits and risks of productive models. Conclusions: The strengthening of technical assistance and rural extension, development of regulations and incentives for organic certification, support and investment for participatory certification, and technical guidelines were necessary strategies to encourage the production and consumption of organic human food.</text>

A análise dos dados indicou que é limitada e heterogênea a execução do PAA-CI no abastecimento de alimentos para os restaurantes universitários via chamadas públicas, beneficiando um reduzido número de agricultores familiares. Há lacunas em termos de cobertura do Programa e falhas na elaboração das chamadas públicas, o que desestimula a participação dos agricultores familiares e das organizações da agricultura familiar, especialmente dos menos estruturados. Em virtude do caráter recente da legislação, devem ser fomentadas políticas públicas de assistência técnica e extensão rural para a agricultura familiar e ações de capacitação dos gestores públicos de modo a conduzir burocratas a interações com organizações locais, criando e aperfeiçoando fluxos de informações e conhecimentos e retroalimentando políticas públicas de desenvolvimento local integradas às atividades-fim das universidades, de ensino, pesquisa e extensão.</text>

                <text>SARS-CoV-2 has become a major global concern as of December 2019, particularly affecting healthcare workers. As person-to-person transmission is airborne, crowded closed spaces have high potential for rapid virus spread, especially early in the pandemic when social distancing and mask wearing were not mandatory. This retrospective study thoroughly investigates a small-scale SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in Israel’s central virology laboratory (ICVL) in mid-March 2020, in which six staff members and two related family members were infected. Suspicions regarding infection by contaminated surfaces in ICVL facilities were nullified by SARS-CoV-2 negative real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of work surfaces swipe tests. Complete SARS-CoV-2 genomes were sequenced and mutation analyses showed inclusion of all samples to clades 20B and 20C, possessing the spike mutation D614G. Phylogenetic analysis clarified transmission events, confirming S1 as having infected at least three other staff members and refuting the association of a staff member’s infected spouse with the ICVL transmission cluster. Finally, serology tests exhibited IgG and IgA antibodies in all infected individuals and revealed the occurrence of asymptomatic infections in additional staff members. This study demonstrates the advantages of molecular epidemiology in elucidating transmission events and exemplifies the importance of good laboratory practice, distancing and mask wearing in preventing SARS-CoV-2 spread, specifically in healthcare facilities.</text>

                <text>Sensitivity and specificity of serological assays are key parameters for the accurate estimation of SARS-CoV-2 sero-prevalence. The aim of this study was to compare 8 readily available IgG antibody tests using a panel of well-defined serum samples of prepandemic and pandemic origin. A cross-reaction panel included samples of patients with recent infection with either of the endemic Coronaviruses 229E, NL63, HKU1, or OC43. Additionally, samples with high antibody levels against influenza virus, adenovirus, and during acute EBV infection were included. Previous infection with endemic coronaviruses caused a significant amount of cross-reactivity in two of the assays. In contrast, the confidence intervals for the assays of Abbott, DiaSorin, Euroimmun and Roche encompassed the value of 98% for samples with a previous endemic HCoV infection. For all assays, sensitivities were between 91.3% and 98.8%. Assay performance was independent of the usage of either nucleocapsid or spike proteins.</text>
