Como resultado, se concluye que la cobertura vegetal natural, disminuyo en 5 602 ha, que corresponde al 4.9 % de la superficie total y el cultivo de quinua incrementó en 5 670 ha que corresponde al 4.9 % entre el 2014 a 2016. Un análisis preliminar de los conteos entre 1990-1994 demostró una población decreciendo rápidamente, en riesgo de desaparecer en varias décadas. Con sentido de alarma, esta información fue compartida con 16 actores locales y científicos en un taller sobre conservación de la lapa roja en Punta Leona. Se acordaron acciones de manejo inmediatas para rescatar la población en peligro y se creó, asimismo, una asociación local (LAPPA) para coordinar los esfuerzos. A partir de 1995, se comenzaron a aplicar acciones de manejo in situ, que involucraron el hábitat, la población de lapa roja y las comunidades humanas. Como resultado, se registró un aumento significativo de dicha población y ampliación de su rango. Esto posiblemente se debió a a) la protección del hábitat y de los pichones en sus nidos; b) la educación ambiental sobre la lapa roja en escuelas rurales y pueblos; c) LAPPA coordinando muchos proyectos de manejo; d) la siembra de árboles utilizados por la lapa roja; e) construcción y colocación de nidos artificiales, y f) Punta Leona como padrino del proyecto desde 1994. Esta investigación aplicada y manejo in situ de lapa roja ha demostrado cómo recuperar una población en vías de extinción. Traditional approaches to assembling broadly covering sets of peptides are commonly based on assembling highly conserved epitopes. Peptide block entropy analysis is a novel approach to assembling sets of broadly covering antigens. Since T-cell epitopes are recognized as peptides rather than individual residues, this method is based on calculating the information content of blocks of peptides from a multiple sequence alignment of homologous proteins rather than individual residues. The block entropy analysis provides broad coverage by variant inclusion, since high frequency may not be the sole determinant of the immunogenic potential of a predicted MHC class I binder. We applied block entropy analysis method to the proteomes of the four serotypes of dengue virus and found 1,551 blocks of 9-mer peptides, which covered all available sequences with five or fewer unique peptides. In contrast, the benchmark study by Khan et al. (2008), resulted in 165 9-mers being determined as conserved. Many of the blocks are located consecutively in the proteins, so connecting these blocks resulted in 78 conserved regions which can be covered with 457 subunit peptides. Of the 1551 blocks of 9-mer peptides, 110 blocks consisted of peptides all predicted to bind to MHC with similar affinity and the same HLA restriction. In total, we identified a pool of 333 peptides as T-cell epitope candidates. This set could form the basis for a broadly neutralizing dengue virus vaccine. The peptide block entropy analysis approach significantly increases the number of conserved peptide regions in comparison to traditional conservation analysis of individual residues. We determined 457 subunit peptides with the capacity to encompass the diversity of all sequenced DENV strains. Current scenarios of bHLH evolution in animals are mainly based on the bHLH gene set found in the genome of demosponge Amphimedon queenslandica. In this species, the majority of the 21 identified bHLH genes belong to group B, and the single group A gene is orthologous to several neurogenic bilaterian subfamilies, including atonal and neurogenin. Results Given recently discovered differences in developmental toolkit components between siliceous and calcareous sponges, we have carried out genome-wide analysis of bHLH genes in Sycon ciliatum, an emerging calcisponge model. We identified 30 bHLH genes in this species, representing 12 individual families, including four group A families not found in Amphimedon, and two larger family groupings. Notably, the families represented in Sycon are only partially overlapping with those represented in Amphimedon. Developmental expression analysis of a subset of the identified genes revealed patterns consistent with deeply conserved roles, such as specification of sensory cells by Atona-related and stem cells by Myc genes. Conclusions Our results demonstrate independent gene loss events in demosponges and calcisponges, implying a complex bHLH toolkit in the last common metazoan ancestor.
