Quantitative indicators of FI were:Household food storage, maize and/or bean production, food expenditure, and spatial access to food markets. We evaluated percentage adequacy of energy (PAE) and Zinc (PAZn) intake. Multiple linear regression model was fitted to estimate the association between maternal and child PAE and PAZn. RESULTS: Child PAE and PAZn were positively associated with those of their mothers. None of the FI indicators modified the association between maternal and child PAE and PAZn. CONCLUSIONS: No evidence of maternal dietary compromise in favor of her child was observed using four quantitative indicators of FI in central-southern rural Mexican househods.OBJETIVO: Analizar indicadores cuantitativos de inseguridad alimentaria (IA) y estimar si IA modifica la asociación del consumo de energía y zinc en madres e hijos como evidencia del compromiso de la dieta materna a favor de su hijo. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Estudio transversal,información basal de la evaluación de impacto del Programa de Apoyo Alimentario. Indicadores de IA: reserva de alimentos en hogar, autoproducción maíz y/o frijol, porcentaje del gasto en alimentos y acceso físico a mercados de alimentos.Se calculó el porcentaje de adecuación del consumo energético (PAE) y Zinc (PAZn) (n=2 563 pares). Se estimó un modelo de regresión lineal ajustado por covariables. RESULTADOS: El PAE y PAZn de madres e hijos se asoció positivamente. Ningún indicador de IA modificó la asociación entre PAE y PAZn materno con respecto a sus hijos. CONCLUSIONES: Los indicadores de IA estudiados no modifican la relación entre la dieta de madres-hijos en hogares rurales de México. Con ello se disminuye su retiro a sitios de disposición final y se minimiza el consumo de agregados pétreos vírgenes, lo que produce beneficios ambientales a corto plazo, así como otros que sobresalen por el aprovechamiento de su calidad de mezclado y condición estructural residual. Sin embargo, se espera que este tipo de productos tengan un efecto positivo en la economía, la calidad de vida y la seguridad alimentaria de los sectores relacionados con la producción. Objetivos: Determinar el efecto de la certificación de las fincas cafeteras en la seguridad e inocuidad alimentaria en hogares de jornaleros del Suroeste de Antioquia-Colombia. Métodos: Se seleccionaron 79 hogares de jornaleros residentes (41 en fincas certificadas y 38 en no certificadas) para un análisis comparativo. Se tomaron muestras de bebidas (sobremesas) de consumo habitual y se analizaron mediante recuento del número más probable (NMP) de coliformes totales (CT) y fecales (CF), utilizando la técnica de fluorocult LMX (Merk®, U.S.A). Se aplicó la escala latinoamericana y caribeña para la seguridad alimentaria (ELCSA) y una encuesta para evaluar la disponibilidad y acceso a los alimentos, al igual que la economía, educación, calidad de la vivienda y estado nutricional de los integrantes (por índice de masa corporal –IMC–). Las variables que mejor representaron los componentes de la seguridad alimentaria en los hogares se analizaron por MDS (Multidimensional Scaling) para buscar posibles asociaciones entre componentes y niveles de la ELCSA. Resultados: No se encontraron diferencias significativas en seguridad alimentaria en la ELCSA por tipo de finca. Las fincas certificadas presentaron una tendencia a menor contaminación por CT, menores ingresos y mayores gastos en alimentación y vivienda. El MDS mostró una asociación entre calidad aceptable de contaminación de bebidas con CT y certificación, mientras que la contaminación por CF se asoció a inseguridad leve. Conclusiones: La certificación de las fincas cafeteras no se asocia significativamente con la seguridad alimentaria de los hogares de jornaleros que laboran en dichos sitios. Por su parte, la contaminación por CF podría ser un indicador de inseguridad alimentaria leve. Este tipo de arrecife está compuesto por los restos de sedimentos y rocas que son gradualmente depositados a través del tiempo por estos gusanos sabeláridos. El arrecife tiene una longitud de 115 m en total, 1.59 m de altura máxima y 19.58 m de ancho máximo, formando dos peldaños. La arena colectada en el arrecife y la playa presentaba granulometría variada, en la que los granos de arena de la playa se encontraron más pequeños que los granos de la arena de arrecife. Los diámetros de los tubos de gusano no superaron los 4 mm de ancho y 5.5 cm de altura. Hubo una disminución en la población de gusanos durante el tiempo abarcado por este estudio. Se registraron 19 especies de diferentes filos en el arrecife. El índice de Margalef fue de 5.04, el cual está por encima del máximo común. El índice de Shannon fue valorado en 0.54, el cual se considera extremadamente bajo. En base a estos resultados se infiere que la morfología de este arrecife proporciona arena a la playa y la protege de las condiciones ambientales adversas. Este arrecife es un foco de biodiversidad en la zona. A pesar de su importancia ecológica como fuente de recursos para la fauna silvestre y de su potencial valor económico como materia prima para la producción del licor “Cocuy de Penca”, los estudios sobre su ecología reproductiva son muy escasos. En este estudio se evaluó la fenología de floración y fructificación de A. cocui en ocho localidades de Venezuela. La fase reproductiva se inició al finalizar el periodo de lluvias. Las flores se producen durante cinco meses. Para la Región Noroccidental del país y los Andes los máximos de floración ocurrieron en enero, mientras que las localidades en la costa central y oriental exhibieron un desface de cerca de dos meses, a principios de marzo. La mayor sincronía floral ocurrió entre todas las poblaciones censadas en el occidente del país, incluyendo las localidades andinas. Dicha sincronía reproductiva potenciaría la conformación de un corredor de néctar para aves y murciélagos, que se extendería desde el Norte de Falcón, en la Costa Occidental, hasta los bolsones andinos, en el Suroeste del país.
