                <text>A diversificação agrícola em áreas de cultivo do tabaco é uma das propostas da Convenção-Quadro, considerada o primeiro tratado internacional de saúde pública da Organização Mundial da Saúde. O objetivo deste estudo é evidenciar e discutir as dificuldades e potencialidades referentes à diversificação agrícola e substituição ao cultivo do tabaco entre representantes do Estado, de organizações da sociedade civil e da própria indústria, em região produtora do Sul do Brasil. Foi desenvolvido estudo do tipo etnográfico com realização de 42 entrevistas semiestruturadas, com famílias de agricultores e informantes-chave, além de observação participante das famílias, em localidade rural do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Há políticas públicas potencializadoras da diversificação, como crédito agrícola e assistência técnica, mas elas ainda não atingiram os fumicultores pesquisados. Conclui-se que a ampliação e direcionamento de políticas públicas e o resgate e fortalecimento da agricultura familiar são essenciais para a diversificação agrícola e substituição do cultivo do tabaco proposta pela Convenção-Quadro.</text>

La misma estará enfocada en el paradigma cualitativo y el diseño a utilizar será la investigación-acción participante. Las técnicas de recolección de información que se emplearán serán la entrevista semi estructurada y la observación participante, tomando como informantes 3 estudiantes 2 Docentes de la institución objeto de estudio, el análisis de la información se desarrollará a través de técnicas cualitativas que permitirán descomponer los datos en sus respectivas categorías y sub categorías a fines de ir dando respuesta a las interrogantes planteadas en el contexto de estudio. Este proceso tratará de integrar en un todo coherente y lógico los resultados de la investigación con los aportes de los autores reseñados en el marco teórico referencial después del trabajo de contrastación. La validez y fiabilidad se establecerá a través de un exhaustivo proceso de triangulación, a fines de establecer acciones concretas para solventar la debilidad detectada en relación a la necesidad de implementar estrategias didácticas apoyadas en el reciclaje para coadyuvar en la conservación del ambiente.</text>

                <text>El estudio se centra es describir los procedimientos para la elegibilidad de área para proyecto forestales de medición de bonos de carbonos de cumplan con los estándares establecido para una empresa Forestal, siguiendo la reglamentación establecida por ICOTEC y la superintendencia financiera. La metodología se plantea una revisión de los períodos 2003-2013 de análisis utilizando imágenes satelitales con sensor LANDSAT, que cubrían en toda su extensión el área de interés, permitiendo identificar las zonas: a) Elegible pastos limpios, b) Elegible vegetación secundaria baja, c) No elegible bosque fragmentado y d) No elegible vegetación secundaria alta. Los resultados demuestran que las zonas sujetas para proyectos forestales corresponden a los pastos limpios y vegetación secundaria, que arroja un valor 2,150 y 523 hectáreas del total de 3.223. El estudio, concluye que el desarrollo de proyectos ambientales hacia la mitigación del cambio climático se ha convertido en una iniciativa fundamental para el desarrollo ambiental, como una nueva visión de sostenibilidad que puede mejorar las condiciones sociales al mismo tiempo que se favorece aspectos económicos.</text>

                <text>An experiment was carried out in Magé, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, to evaluate the performance of taro (Colocasia esculenta) intercropped with sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea), used as green manure. A randomized blocks design with four replicates was used and the soil of the field plots was classified as Haplic Gleysol. Treatments consisted of taro (1) intercropped with unpruned sunn hemp, (2) intercropped with sunn hemp cut at soil level, (3) intercropped with sunn hemp pruned at its mid-height, and (4) in monoculture. The taro was planted in double rows spaced by 1.0 m. The planting furrows had a space of 0.5 m, with rhizomes placed at every 3.0 m. The experimental plot consisted of four 3.0 m rows and the useful area corresponded to the five central plants in each of the two central rows. The sunn hemp was sown in parallel lines in the spaces between the taro double rows, 120 days after planting the taro. When the sunn hemp was cut at soil level, an accumulation of 211 kg ha-1 of N was observed. Besides this, the sunn hemp's biomass promoted the cycling of an average 17 kg ha-1 of P, 85 kg ha-1 of K, 151 kg ha-1 of Ca, and 27 kg ha-1 of Mg. Worth mentioning, it represented also a deposition of 6.85 Mg ha-1 of dry substance. Even when pruned at its mid-height, the sunn hemp still provided 60% of nutrients relatively to the treatment in which it was cut at soil level. In addition to the nutrient supply, the use of taro intercropped with sunn hemp cut at soil level or pruned at mid-height represented efficient alternatives for controlling the spontaneous vegetation and for reducing taro leaf burning by solar radiation, without compromising the yield of taro. In all intercropping systems, taro plants had a larger leaf area and were taller than plants in monoculture.O experimento foi desenvolvido no município de Magé, Região Metropolitana do estado do Rio de Janeiro, para avaliar a influência do manejo da crotalária (Crotalaria juncea), usada como adubo verde, na forma de consórcio, sobre o desempenho do taro. O solo da área experimental foi classificado como Gleissolo Háplico. O delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram de cultivo do taro (1) consorciado com crotalária sem cortes, (2) consorciado com crotalária roçada rente ao nível do solo, (3) consorciado com crotalária cortada à metade de sua altura e (4) em monocultivo. O taro foi plantado em fileiras duplas espaçadas de 1,0 m. Os sulcos de plantio tiveram espaçamento de 0,5 m, com os rizomas colocados a cada 3,0 m. A parcela experimental consistiu de quatro linhas de 3,0 m, adotando como área útil as cinco plantas centrais em cada uma das linhas do meio. A crotalária foi semeada em linhas paralelas, no espaço entre os sulcos, 120 dias após o plantio do taro. Quando a crotalaria foi cortada rente ao solo, houve um acúmulo de 211 kg ha-1 de N, além da reciclagem de, em média, 17 kg ha-1 de P, 85 kg ha-1 de K, 151 kg ha-1 de Ca e 27 kg ha-1 de Mg. Observou-se ainda a deposição de 6,85 Mg ha-1 de matéria seca.                 <text>Since the beginning of March 2020, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused more than 13,000 deaths in Europe, almost 54% of which has occurred in Italy. The Italian healthcare system is experiencing a stressful burden, especially in terms of intensive care assistance. In fact, the main clinical manifestation of COVID-19 patients is represented by an acute hypoxic respiratory failure secondary to bilateral pulmonary infiltrates, that in many cases, results in an acute respiratory distress syndrome and requires an invasive ventilator support. A precocious respiratory support with non-invasive ventilation or high flow oxygen should be avoided to limit the droplets’ air-dispersion and the healthcare workers’ contamination. The application of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) by means of a helmet can represent an effective alternative to recruit diseased alveolar units and improve hypoxemia. It can also limit the room contamination, improve comfort for the patients, and allow for better clinical assistance with long-term tolerability. However, the initiation of a CPAP is not free from pitfalls. It requires a careful titration and monitoring to avoid a delayed intubation. Here, we discuss the rationale and some important considerations about timing, criteria, and monitoring requirements for patients with COVID-19 respiratory failure requiring a CPAP treatment.</text>

                <text>The paper presents the most comprehensive and large-scale study to date on how students perceive the impacts of the first wave of COVID-19 crisis in early 2020 on various aspects of their lives on a global level. With a sample of 30,383 students from 62 countries, the study reveals that amid the worldwide lockdown and transition to online learning students were most satisfied with the support provided by teaching staff and their universities’ public relations. Still, deficient computer skills and the perception of a higher workload prevented them from perceiving their own improved performance in the new teaching environment. Students were mainly concerned about issues to do with their future professional career and studies, and experienced boredom, anxiety, and frustration. The pandemic has led to the adoption of particular hygienic behaviours (e.g., wearing masks, washing hands) and discouraged certain daily practices (e.g., leaving home, shaking hands). Students were also more satisfied with the role played by hospitals and universities during the epidemic compared to the governments and banks. The findings also show that students with certain socio-demographic characteristics (male, part-time, first-level, applied sciences, a lower living standard, from Africa or Asia) were significantly less satisfied with their academic work/life during the crisis, whereas female, full-time, first-level students and students faced with financial problems were generally affected more by the pandemic in terms of their emotional life and personal circumstances. Key factors influencing students’ satisfaction with the role of their university are also identified. Policymakers and higher education institutions around the world may benefit from these findings while formulating policy recommendations and strategies to support students during this and any future pandemics.</text>

                <text>In an asexually reproducing hybrid such as banana (Musa spp.), the assessment of clones in the short term is limited because replications are frequently unavailable in the proper number. The aim of this work is to propose the Multiple Factor Analysis of Mixed Data (MFAmix) as a tool for establishing objective criteria to identify banana clones that preserve variability for qualitative and quantitative variables. In the long term, the aim is the development of a banana germplasm bank. MFAmix was applied on a population composed of 124 banana clones collected from different farmers’ fields and four controls. Two groups of variables related to the agronomic aptitude of the clones were evaluated, one composed of nine quantitative variables, and the other, composed of three dichotomous qualitative variables. A Selection Index (SI) was built from the MFAmix coordinates in order to rank the clones and select a subset that allows to preserve the existing genetic variability. The first two axes of MFAmix explained a 49.47% of the total data variability. The set of the banana clones was successfully characterized based on quantitative and qualitative variables. In the long term, the creation of a banana germplasm bank should consider the height and diameter of the plant, the rachis bunch weight and the hands weight, and the qualitative variable plant leafiness.</text>

Luego se centra en la transformación de esta actividad en una ciencia, la silvicultura, o más propiamente, la dasonomía, la cual se consolidó desde mediados del siglo XVIII cuando se empezó a enseñar formalmente en Alemania y otros países germánicos y se crearon, además, servicios forestales como el de Prusia. De esta época datan los primeros conceptos teóricos del rendimiento sostenido de los bosques (G. L. Harting, H. von Cotta), aunque desde comienzos del siglo XIII ya existían bosques empíricamente ordenados con esta filosofía en el Centro de Europa. La sustentabilidad o sostenibilidad tan en boga hoy en la ecología y la economía, tiene allí su antecedente más remoto. También Francia jugó un papel preponderante en el desarrollo de la dasonomía, sobre todo por haber involucrado el manejo de las cuencas hidrográficas dentro de las ciencias forestales, en tanto que los aportes de los germanos fueron en economía y medición forestal. El origen de la profesión forestal parece situarse tanto en los guardabosques ingleses como en los maestros de aguas y bosques franceses, de principios de los siglos XII y XIII, respectivamente. Durante el periodo analizado las ciencias forestales evidenciaron relaciones estrechas con las ciencias agropecuarias con las cuales parece haberse asociado sólo durante el presente siglo por razones coyunturales. El siglo XIX vio nacer la silvicultura tropical en la India; los primeros profesores e investigadores fueron alemanes contratados por la corona inglesa.
