Coronaviruses may cause global outbreaks with high mortality. Although there is no definite evidence, it is thought that bats are reservoir hosts and one-humped camels are intermediate hosts. According to the World Health Organization data, 1,698 MERS-CoV cases were identified as of March, 23th, 2016 with 609 (36%) deaths. Most of the cases were seen in Saudi Arabia. South Korea is the country following Saudi Arabia where most of the cases developed through in-hospital spread. There is no reported case from Turkey except a Turkish patient returning from Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, there was a marked peak in new cases during April 2014 and May 2014. Although there was no spesific symptom or laboratory finding that belongs to MERS-CoV, pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome and acute renal failure were the most common clinical conditions. Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, congestive hearth failure and chronic renal failure were usually the main predisposing diseases. Real-time polymerase chain reaction is the gold standard for diagnosis and lower respiratory samples are preferred because of high viral load. There is no spesific treatment for MERS-CoV but there are reports showing decreased viral load with ribavirin-interferon combination. Strict and correct personal protective equipment use is the most important factor for preventing the spread of the disease. The article presents an assessment of the potential of intra-industry polarization by individual types of economic activity, with consideration for the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) at enterprises. It is noted that information and communication technologies replace certain tasks performed by humans. Consequently, the share of employed among not only highly qualified and paid experts but low-skilled service personnel related to this sphere will increase as well. An assessment of the share of employees who used ICT in enterprises is performed. It is determined that, in Ukraine, the maximum number of employees who used ICT in their professional activities were employed in the fields of information technologies, telecommunications, as well as scientific and technical activities. The close to the Ukrainian average value share of employees using ICT in enterprises is observed in industry. The minimal use of ICT was in the field of transport, warehousing, postal and courier activities and water supply. The results obtained have allowed to single out a number of enterprises with the maximum potential for applying the latest technologies and reformatting the structure of the employed population. The role of skills and competences necessary for forming competitiveness of labor resources and overcoming various challenges in the labor market is determined. The core skills and competences for effective employment are defined with the use of the content-based model O*NET and proposed in the study. It is noted that promoting the development of non-routine skills is the most relevant strategy for the formation of labor competitiveness under modern conditions, especially as a result of the impulse created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in medical education have varied from country to country, from closures of medical schools to online/distance learning approaches to abiding by country-specific measures such as social distancing to stop the spread of the disease. The sudden transition from on-campus learning to exclusively distance learning is challenging for both faculty and students and has required a lot of preparation and other efforts in a short time. This paper aims to share the experiences of four authors in the middle east that have dealt with the sudden transition from ordinary teaching and learning to fully online teaching. The process of Curriculum delivery in Medical Education during an emergency has included; establishing a sense of urgency, establishing working teams, conducting needs assessments, developing implementation plans, communicating the curriculum content, capacity building, managing students' stress, finding tools to be used, managing student engagement and motivation, student assessment, anticipating challenges and planning for how to overcome them, and monitoring and evaluation of curriculum implementation and continuous improvement. The proposed process will hopefully assist the medical schools in response to the current pandemic (COVID-19) and when facing similar situations. However, the drawbacks of online teaching (e.g., students’ inadequate autonomous learning, the lack of effective online instruction) forced us to modify teaching strategies during this special period, especially developing courses that are suitable for student learning at home and improving their key competencies. In order to solve these problems, this study introduces some theoretical exploration and practical work of curriculum design under the guidance of thinking-based instruction theory (TBIT) during the pandemic. We firstly introduce TBIT, and elaborate on the curriculum design under the TBIT theoretical frame. Then we describe a series of TBIT-based micro-courses with the pandemic as background. A descriptive study is reported to illustrate the effects of three micro-courses. Results showed that, compared to national curricula, the TBIT-based micro-courses not only improved the course quality but also enhanced students’ motivation and facilitated their online learning behavior (such as interactive communication) for the online courses. The current study has important implications for how to design effective and interesting online courses suitable under pandemic and capable of improving students’ thinking abilities and key competencies.
