Senikas, Catherine Potvin Description An account of the resource With the increasing need to reduce greenhouse gas concentrations, afforestation and reforestation (A/R) projects are being implemented under the Kyoto Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and under the voluntary carbon (C) market. The specific objective of A/R C projects is to enhance terrestrial sinks. They could also provide low-income communities in developing countries with a source of revenue, as well as a number of ecological and social services. However, feasibility issues have hindered implementation of A/R CDMs. We propose enrichment planting (EP) in old fallow using high-value native timber species as a land-use alternative and a small-scale C projects opportunity. We present EP in the context of ongoing work in a poor indigenous community in eastern Panama. We consider economic risks and advantages and concordance with existing modalities under the compliance market. The potential storage capacity for EP at the site of our study was ~113 Mg C ha-1, which is comparable to other land uses with high C storage, such as industrial teak plantations and primary forest. Because secondary forests show high aboveground biomass production, C projects using EP could harness large amounts of atmospheric C while improving diversity. Carbon projects using EP can also provide high levels of social, cultural, and ecological services by planting native tree species of traditional importance to local communities and preserving most of the secondary forest's ecological attributes. Therefore, EP planting could be considered as a way to promote synergies between two UN Conventions: climate change and biodiversity. SÍNTESIS Con la necesidad apremiante de reducción de los gases de efecto invernadero, proyectos de aforestación y reforestación (A/R) pueden implementarse bajo el Mecanismo de Desarrollo Limpio del Protocolo de Kyoto (MDL) o en el contexto del mercado voluntario. El objetivo especifico de los mercados de carbono, voluntario o de compromiso, es de estimular el almacenamiento de carbono terrestre. Además, los proyectos de carbono podrían presentar una oportunidad para cambiar prácticas de uso de la tierra y proteger la biodiversidad mientras se provee un ingreso a las comunidades de países en desarrollo para mantener servicios ambientales. Proponemos un enriquecimiento de plantación cubierta (EP) en rastrojos o bosques secundarios utilizando especies de maderas nativas preciosas como alternativa forestal y proyecto de carbono a pequeña escala. Los diferentes aspectos de implementación del A/R-MDL actual están tomados en cuenta. Discutimos la EP en el contexto de investigaciones continuas en la comunidad indígena Ipetí-Emberá en Panamá-Este. En nuestro sitio, el potencia de almacenamiento de carbono para la EP podría ser de 113 Mg C ha-1, lo cual es comparable a otros usos del suelo como plantaciones de teca y bosque primario. Como los rastrojos presentan una alta producción de biomasa, proyectos de carbono con EP podría acumular cantidades grandes de carbono atmosférico mientras se proveen beneficios socio-económicos. O resultado destas reflexões nos leva ao entendimento de que o consumo é hoje essencialmente um consumo estético, quer pelas visualidades e sensorialidades exploradas nas ofertas materiais, quer pelas explorações conceituais de temas emergentes, como gênero, etnia, ageless e tantos outros que também são abordados esteticamente nas campanhas e expressividades das marcárias.   Abstract This paper results from a theoretical reflection on aesthetics, aesthetics of consumption and aesthetics and advertising. It is a consequence of a research in progress in GESC3 (Center of Semiotic Studies in Communication, Culture and Consumption) and in CEDE (Center of Aesthetic Studies), whose works look for joining the multidisciplinary thinking among consumption studies and advertising. These researches are identified by empiricism, founded in semiotic methods and in ethnography in the last decade. All researches show us that nowadays consumption is essentially an aesthetic consumption, perceived by the visual or sensorial aspects in the material offers, or in the conceptual exploitations of gender, ethnicity, age and so many others aesthetically aspects emphasized by advertising campaigns, as well as by the several brands' expressivities.   Resumen Este texto es resultado de la reflexión teórica sobre estética, estética del consumo y ecología publicitaria. Esos resultados reflexivos derivan de las investigaciones del GESC3 (Grupo de Estudios Semióticos en Comunicación, Cultura y Consumo) y del CEDE (Colectivo de Estudios de Estética), cuyos trabajos buscan agregar el pensamiento crítico multidisciplinario al estudio del consumo y la publicidad. Tabasco es la entidad que mayor superficie destina a su producción, con cerca de de 40,869 ha, concentrándose principalmente en la subregión de la Chontalpa. El objetivo de este trabajo es calcular los indicadores agroclimáticos para el ciclo reproductivo del cacao y sus posibles alteraciones bajo escenarios de cambio climático (RCP4.5)[1] en el horizonte de tiempo 2015-2039. Para la floración del cacao, en la región productora de Tabasco, se requiere un promedio de 926 unidades fototérmicas (u.f.), 1,130 u.f. para la fructificación, y 1,047 u.f en la etapa de madurez, además, se requieren aproximadamente 2,760 unidades calor (u.c.) para completar el ciclo reproductivo, y nueve meses de periodo húmedo con menos de dos meses de déficit hídrico en el suelo. Por lo que las condiciones climáticas en la región de la Chontalpa son las adecuadas para el ciclo fenológico del cacao. Los resultados de los escenarios de cambio climático muestran que las temperaturas aumentarán en ese lapso en promedio 1°C, mientras que las precipitaciones disminuirán entre 100 y 200 mm del total anual, con 4 a 5 meses de precipitaciones menores a 100 mm. Este escenario climático ocasionaría un aumento en la evapotranspiración potencial (ETP) entre 3 y 5 meses (entre enero y mayo) y los posibles efectos del déficit hídrico por efectos del cambio climático en la fenología del cacao son: la inhibición de la floración, la producción de vainas más pequeñas y la madurez temprana del fruto.   [1] La ruta de concentración representativa (RCP) 4.5 es un escenario que estabiliza el forzamiento radioactivo a 4.5 W m − 2 en el año 2100 sin exceder ese valor. Se utilizaron los genotipos: “KVL 32”; “RU 5” ambos de ciclo corto; “Faro Roja” de ciclo largo y “Regalona Baer” de ciclo intermedio. Se sembraron a chorrillo en surcos separados a 0,35 m, en parcelas experimentales de 0,7 m de ancho por 4 m de largo, con una densidad de 9,2 kg.ha-1 , fertilizando con 60 kg.ha-1 de fosfato diamónico debajo de la cinta de riego. El diseño experimental fue en bloques completos al azar con 4 repeticiones. Se regó de acuerdo a los requerimientos necesarios del cultivo. Se observó la presencia de plagas y malezas pero no así de enfermedades. De los genotipos utilizados, se descartó “KVL 32” debido al bajo stand de plantas logrado. “Regalona Baer” presentó menor rendimiento e índice de cosecha con respecto a “RU 5” y “Faro Roja”. Esta última, a su vez, alcanzó una altura de planta a cosecha de 139,8 cm siendo la más susceptible al vuelco. “RU 5” fue el material de mejor comportamiento agronómico con un rinde de 1998 kg.ha-1, un índice de cosecha de 0,25; con panoja compacta en la parte superior y una altura de planta a cosecha de 115,8 cm, lo que la hace apta para la mecanización de la cosecha.
