<text>The first records from Argentina of larvae of Goeldichironomus petiolicola Trivinho-Strixino & Strixino mining in Eichhornia crassipes (Martius) Solms petioles in wetlands of the Paraná River floodplain were analyzed. G petiolicola larvae and pupae were collected seasonally during 2005 from stands of E. crassipes and bottom sediment samples in floodplain habitats. Larvae inside E. crassipes petioles were reared with the purpose of obtaining their complete life cycle. G. petiolicola was the most abundant chironomid species living inside E. crassipes petioles; the III and IV instar larvae and pupae were found during all the seasons while the I and II instar larvae were not found. The highest average densities of G. petiolicola larvae inside the E. crassipes petioles were recorded in Autumn-Winter (588.5 ind.kg-1 dw - 778.7 ind.kg-1 dw). This suggests that they have better conditions for survival, allowing the individuals to develop more slowly until the next flooded period with higher temperatures. The r (Dyar) value obtained was 1.66. We conclude that G. petiolicola mines into E. crassipes petioles mainly when the plants begin their senescence process and does not cause important damage to them.

Abstract – In the literature, there are few researches on the effect of cattle manure on grain yield and corn silage compared to poultry and swine manure. The objective of this study was to verify the effect of the liquid cattle manure application on the dry mass of the remaining winter pasture after grazing and on the production of corn silage and grain. The experiment consisted of two systems of maize production associated with application of liquid cattle manure doses and soluble fertilizer, in a randomized complete block with split plot design and four replications. It was concluded that, in soils with high P and K levels, the application of 25m3 ha-1 of liquid cattle manure in the consortium of winter pastures maintains the pasture dry mass yield. Under these soil conditions and with topdressing nitrogen fertilization, the application of 50m3 ha-1 results in a producing above of 80% of corn grain or silage yield in most years.</text>

Objective: The objective of this research is to analyze the nutritional status and household food security of asample of healthy pregnant women who attend to external medicine service at Concepcion Palacios Maternity located in Caracas, Venezuela, and identify variables, which could predict the nutritional status of the evaluated group. Method: This cross sectional, descriptive, comparative study evaluates a sample of 89 pregnant women, between 14 and 44 years of age. Economical, social, demographic and alimentary consumption variables and nutritional conditions were studied. On the way, anthropometrics likeweight, height, and middle-arm circumference and Household food security scale were obtained. In order to perform the descriptive statistic, bivariate, and multiple linear regression analysis required during the investigation, the software SPSS, version 12, was used. Results: The predictive variables considered for the evaluation of the actual nutritional status in pregnant women were: right middle-arm circumference, household food security level and the supplementation with vitamins and/or minerals. These variables explain 78,2% of the actual nutritional status variation in this sample. Therefore, this investigation highlights the importance of the research on simple variables, as a good prediction of the actual nutritional status in pregnant women, with acceptable precision values and without requiring hightrained personnel to perform it. Under these findings, is ery important the study of more predictive variables to evaluate the nutritional and alimentary conditions, with practical and easy mechanisms that can be applied by non-technical personnel. Conclusion: It is recommended to go deep into the study of methods, which evaluate the nutrition in an easy and practical way, applied by non-technical personnel, besides continuing the validation process of the variable combinations determined as predictive of the nutritional status.</text>

Abstract - Tangerines are highly appreciated by consumers because they are generally easy to peel, they have buds that separate easily and have unparalleled flavor and aroma. In addition to the organoleptic characteristics, tangerines have nutritive function and allow good economic return in small areas of cultivation. Supply of tangerines in the off-season, from October to February, is an interesting strategy to obtain higher profitability. The adoption of early cultivars, together with the microclimates that exert influence during the maturation and harvest season, is a strategy to be considered for tangerine cultivation. In this sense, 'SCS458 Osvino' is the earliest cultivar among the most important tangerines cultivated in Santa Catarina State, being an auxiliary option for better demand at a time when there is a low supply of this fruit. It also presents an excellent commercial appeal for being seedless.</text>
