Agriculture, generally speaking, is the basis of thefood system of any country. Mexico’s maize crop is particularly important, not only in terms of food security but also as in terms of culture and identity. The fact that, in recent decades, Mexico has positioned itself as the second largest importer of maize is worrying. For the purpose of measuring the private sector profitability of maize production in the Bajío region of Guanajuato, this study analyzed data from 2,996 producers who participate in the “High Yield Maize Assessment Program (PROEMAR)”, of the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias- Bajío Experiment Camp (INIFAP-CEBAJ). We used the Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) developed in 1989 by Monke andPearson. The results indicate that the benefit-cost ratios of the three technological systems analyzed (considering in their total income, the sale of grain and sub products), were 2.20 for rainfall (T); 1.50 for irrigation with livestock (RCA) and 1.01 for irrigation without livestock (RSA), excluding land costs; including land costs decreased the ratios to 2.13, 1.35 and 0.91. The private cost ratio (RCP), excluding the land, by production system was: T = 0.04, RCA = 0.13 and RSA = 0.85, which implies that the maize producers in the Bajío region of Guanajuato are competitive. When includingland rent in the production costs, the rainfall and irrigation with livestock systems remained competitive with a RCP of 0.07 and 0.32, respectively; not so for the production unit with the irrigation system without livestock (2.04). The most significant input was fertilizer costs, which represented 50% of the costs. / Resumen. La agricultura en general es la base del sistema alimentario de cualquier país. En México el cultivo de maíz es de especial importancia, no solo en términos de seguridad alimentaria sino también como parte de su cultura e identidad. El hecho de que durante las últimas décadas México se ha posicionado como el segundo importador de maíz a nivel mundial, resulta preocupante. Con el propósito de medir la rentabilidad privada de la producción de maíz en el Bajío de Guanajuato, se analizaron los datos de 2,996 productores que participan en el “Programa de Evaluación de Maíz de Alto Rendimiento (PROEMAR)”, del Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Forestales, Agrícolas y Pecuarias-Campo Experimental Bajío (INIFAP-CEBAJ). Given the role of the EU in wine supply, the aim of this paper is to present the design, the rationale and the potential effect of the proposed reform with specific reference to wine sector. To better understand the forthcoming process, it is firstly presented how CAP and its wine policy evolved in terms of objectives and tools over time. The EU wine policy is a paradigmatic example of a combination between the horizontal measures, valid for all agricultural sectors, and vertical measures, peculiarly encompassing the whole wine supply chain. The reform proposal confirms, with some interesting modifications, the set of tools already operating in the sector; however, it calls for a planning of the implementation of the available tools for all products in a unitary frame represented by a national CAP Strategic Plan, applying a lean administrative procedure. In the hypothesis that the COVID-19 outbreak will not cause a radical change in the global agri-food system, the proposed planning process should stimulate shared strategies. These are intended to effectively coordinate, according to the principle of complementarity, the implementation of available policy tools, in order to obtain a better use of resources and a more balanced achievement of all policy objectives. Nuevos enfoques y evidencia ubican la inequidad en salud como resultado de la inequitativa distribución de los DSS. Procesos en curso como la globalización de signo neoliberal y el cambio climático agudizan las inequidades así como la exclusión en salud al actuar directa y desigualmente sobre los DSS. Algunos ejemplos de políticas publicas exitosas: Suecia, dado su particular contexto político-institucional ha desarrollado una política (intersectorial) de salud publica cuyo objetivo es disminuir la inequidad diseñando estrategias participativas sobre sus DSS. The social determinants of health (SDH) approach is not a new subject but one which has gained more visibility with the widening of inequities, blamed on the neo-liberal development model. Progressively, social justice issues are re-emerging, backed by evidence and new approaches which crystallize the relationship between unequal distribution of SDH and their consequences, unequal health outcomes. Processes like globalization under a neo-liberal brand and climate change influence the SDH, resulting in acute inequities and social marginalization. There are some successful examples of countries with policies addressing the SDH. For example, Sweden, with due regard to its particular political and institutional context, has developed public health intersectoral policies that aim at decreasing health inequities. These policies also encourage a participatory model as a means of efficiently tackling the SDH. Another example is Chile which is building a children social protection system (Chile Crece Contigo) using an integrated approach that includes right-based and SDH approaches. The programme's objective is universal coverage with a life cycle approach. A major milestone for civil society in Latin America is the effort by the Americas' Civil Society organizations to strengthen a dialogue that fosters a common agenda on the SDH. The organizations are working with the governments of Brazil, Chile, the OIAS, PAHO and WHO. Their goal is to introduce a new participatory and sustainable development mode, one which is participatory, rights-based and ensures sustainable improvements of SDHs and benefits all people. Dessa forma, a presente pesquisa teve como objetivo principal analisar quais as práticas mais adequadas e viáveis para uso de águas provenientes de esgoto doméstico no município de Serra Negra do Norte/RN. Para realização dessa pesquisa, foi realizado o levantamento bibliográfico e documental sobre a temática e trabalhos de campo, incluindo visitas técnicas à secretaria de abastecimento de água do município, à Estação de tratamento de Esgoto - ETE e às áreas estratégicas e com potencial para o reuso de água, tanto na zona rural como nas áreas urbanas do município. Após execução das etapas metodológicas, foi possível detectar que alguns usos da água proveniente da ETE já vêm sendo realizados na área rural do município de Serra Negra do Norte. As plantações do capim elefante existentes nas áreas beneficiárias pela irrigação por águas residuárias são destinadas principalmente aos médios e grandes agricultores da zona rural do município e esta pode ser estendida para pequenos agricultores, caso haja possibilidade de ampliação do sistema de distribuição desse efluente. Também foi possível verificar que na área urbana de Serra Negra do Norte, muitas praças e canteiros poderiam ser contemplados com águas de reuso. Contudo, destacamos os cuidados que devem ser tomados quando do uso de águas provenientes de ETE.
