Ecología reproductora del alcaudón meridional, Lanius meridionalis, en un agrosistema del sudeste de España: el desconcertante excelente éxito reproductivo en una población en decrecimiento La población de alcaudón meridional, Lanius meridionalis, está disminuyendo a escalas europea y española. Una posible causa de este decrecimiento podría ser la disminución del éxito reproductor debido a la escasa disponibilidad de presas en medios agrarios. En este estudio se analiza la ecología reproductora de una población de alcaudón meridional en un agrosistema situado en las Lomas de Padul (SE de España). Los resultados sugieren que la población de Padul se encuentra en decrecimiento; no obstante, en contra de lo esperado, la población mostró el mayor éxito reproductivo (% de nidos en los que al menos un huevo termina convirtiéndose en volantón) encontrado en esta especie (83,3%), con una productividad de 4,04 volantones por nido. El éxito reproductor osciló notablemente entre años, entre el 75% en el peor año y el 92,9% en el mejor año. De igual forma, la productividad osciló entre 3,25 y 5,00 volantones por nido según el año. Otros aspectos de la biología reproductiva de la población, como el tamaño de puesta o de nidada o la alimentación de los pollos, fueron similares a lo observado en otros estudios. Sobre la base de estos resultados, se sugiere que el factor determinante del decrecimiento de la población está actuando sobre la fracción juvenil, lo que reduce de forma drástica la tasa de reclutamiento, o bien afecta a la dispersión de adultos y reclutas. No obstante, se desconocen cuáles son los factores exactos. En cualquier caso, este estudio demuestra que un elevado éxito reproductor no garantiza el buen estado de salud de la población.

El aumento de la población y cambio climático en el país ejerce directa presión sobre el recurso hídrico, generando incertidumbre en su disponibilidad. El norte de Chile es una de las zonas más áridas del mundo, característica que últimamente se extiende también a la zona central, por lo que se hace imprescindible desarrollar una alternativa potencial a esta escasez. El agua gris se presenta como una atractiva oportunidad para aumentar la disponibilidad hídrica, esta es agua residual que excluye las aguas negras, se puede tratar y reutilizar en riego y descarga de inodoros. Este estudio plantea una metodología de selección de sistemas de tratamiento para viviendas en zonas de escasez. Partiendo con la clasificación de tecnologías comúnmente utilizadas, su eficiencia en depuración, características y calidad de afluentes y efluentes respectivamente, obteniendo los porcentajes de consumos diarios de agua gris, y una matriz de selección de para viviendas uni y multifamiliares.

Contrariamente a la creencia, muy extendida, de que la fusion de las grandes masas de hielo a la deriva en el oceano no repercute en un aumento del nivel del mar, lo cierto es que el deshielo de icebergs, barreras de hielo e incluso de la banquisa tiene, en el actual contexto de calentamiento global, un impacto nada despreciable en el nivel de los oceanos. Se presenta a continuacion una revision de este fenomeno y se propone un experimento ilustrativo que puede resultar util para ofrecer una experiencia directa relativa al impacto que sobre el nivel del mar tiene la fusion del hielo flotante en el oceano.

El planeta tierra se está calentando a una velocidad que los modelos matemáticos del premio nobel de economía William Nordhaus subestiman, y que han servido para retrasar la puesta en marcha de políticas radicales que frenen el calentamiento global (Keen, 2019). La temperatura promedio del planeta en la época preindustrial está siendo superada en 1.2 ºC, pero es necesario que no pase el umbral de los 1.5 o 2 ºC; para ello, es necesario reducir las emisiones de CO2 en 45 por ciento para el 2030 y llegar a cero emisiones en el 2050. Sin embargo, los 1.5 ºC se alcanzarán en 2030. Es decir, los efectos del calentamiento global como tormentas, sequías, incendios forestales, olas de calor e inundaciones costeras serán de dimensiones catastróficas. Por ejemplo, las inundaciones causadas por el aumento del nivel del mar podrían costar US$ 14 billones —12 ceros—, en todo el mundo, anualmente en 2100 si se alcanzan los 2 ºC (Hemer et al., 2019). El calentamiento del planeta proviene de las actividades económicas de producir, comerciar y consumir que están movidas por los combustibles fósiles, petróleo y carbón, que generan altas emisiones de CO2 y otros gases que calientan el clima.

La construcción de ciudades constituye la transformación más drástica, fundamental e irreversible de los sistemas naturales, reemplazando todo componente biótico y abiótico original del lugar. Entre los artrópodos que han podido adaptarse a los ambientes urbanos se encuentran las arañas. Se encontraron 41 especies en el interior de 12 casas de 2 niveles de la ciudad de Toluca, ubicadas en 4 ambientes con diferente grado de urbanización, durante el periodo de septiembre del 2009 a agosto del 2010. Por primera vez se empleó un método sistematizado para recolecta de arañas en el interior de las viviendas. La diversidad de arañas fue diferente en cada uno de los ambientes muestreados; el índice de Shannon (H') mostró que la diversidad de arañas es mayor en las casas que presentan jardín en el ambiente urbano, por lo que no se apoya la hipótesis del disturbio intermedio. El número de arañas encontradas fue mayor en el primer nivel de las viviendas que en el segundo, por lo que se proponen 3 hipótesis para explicar esta diferencia. Se propone la prueba de Olmstead-Tukey para determinar los 4 niveles de sinantropismo (N. S.), ya que la prueba engloba valores utilizados en los índices de densidad e infestación (ocupación).City-building is the most drastic, fundamental and irreversible transformation of natural environments, replacing all original biotic and abiotic components of the site. Spiders are among the arthropods that have become adapted to urban environments. We found 41 species within 12 two-story houses of the city of Toluca, located in 4 environments with different degrees of urbanization, during the period September 2009-August 2010. For the first time a systematic method was used to collect spiders inside houses with even collecting efforts. The diversity of spiders is different in each of the sampled environments, the Shannon index (H ') indicated that the diversity of spiders was higher in houses with gardens in the urban environment, so it does not support the hypothesis of intermediate disturbance. The number of spiders found is higher on the first level of houses than on the second, and 3 hypotheses are proposed to explain this difference. The Olmstead-Tukey test is proposed to determine the 4 levels of synanthropism (N. S.), since the test includes values used in the density and infestation rates (occupation).

La explotación de gas y petróleo demanda millones de metros cúbicos de agua que se convierten en residuo. Esta agua de producción (AP) se reinyecta en los pozos o se vierte en la naturaleza; solo un mínimo volumen es tratado para ser reutilizado en la industria o la agricultura. El reúso es la opción más responsable porque implica devolver agua regenerada al ciclo natural, transformar en activo nuestro pasivo ambiental, alargar la vida del recurso, reducir los vertimientos y proteger la seguridad alimentaria de las poblaciones locales. Si bien el reúso del agua es ineludible para algunos países, debería serlo para todos. Si el AP es un bien y no un residuo, y su gestión es clave en la transformación hacia la economía circular, debemos reflexionar respecto al reto para la sostenibilidad y la oportunidad de alianza y negocio que representa. A continuación, se exponen aspectos generales y particulares del AP en Colombia, en donde el reúso fuera de la industria, es menos del 0,3% anual, mientras que el vertimiento sigue siendo una práctica usual de gran impacto sobre los ecosistemas. El desconocimiento sobre la tecnología disponible, los costos de inversión, la legislación y la necesidad de alianzas, son retos para lograr los beneficios del reúso; no solo respecto a su calidad y cantidad en la naturaleza, sino a los negocios emergentes que surgirían como oportunidades de mercado responsable en torno a un bien común.

Para evaluar el efecto de dos estrategias alimentarias y presencia de sustrato para perifiton sobre el perfil de ácidos grasos, características sensoriales y microbiológicas en filetes de tilapia y bocachico, se realizó un policultivo bajo un diseño factorial 2x2 con tres réplicas. El primer factor, A1: alimento con 20% de proteína bruta (PB) y A2: alimentación con niveles decrecientes de PB, (38, 32, 24 y 20%). El segundo factor B1: presencia y B2: ausencia de sustrato para perifiton. Al final de un periodo de cultivo de ocho meses fueron analizados los filetes de las dos especies. Las muestras cumplieron con los parámetros microbiológicos del INVIMA. No hubo diferencias significativas sensoriales entre tratamientos. En tilapia, la estrategia alimentaria tuvo efectos sobre el perfil de ácidos grasos, no en bocachico. En bocachico se encontraron relaciones Ω-6/Ω-3 de 0,7±0,12, en tilapia de 3,9±1,2 y en perifiton de 0,7±0,007. Por la relación Ω-6/Ω-3 menor a 1 y la presencia de DHA y EPA, el bocachico reúne características para ser identificado como un alimento funcional. El perifiton presentó niveles altos de ALA, siendo una fuente apropiada para peces. Tilapia tiene más alta relación de Ω-6: Ω-3, pero con adecuados niveles de DHA y EPA.Para avaliar o efeito de duas estratégias alimentarias e a presença de substrato para perifiton no perfil dos ácidos graxos, características sensoriais e microbiológicas dos files de tilápia e bocachico, foi feito um policultivo sob um desenho fatorial 2x2 com três repetições. O primeiro fator com dois níveis, A1: alimento de 20% de proteína bruta (PB) e A2: alimentação com níveis decrescentes de PB, (38, 32, 24 y 20%). O segundo fator B1: presença e B2: ausência de substrato para perifiton. No final do cultivo de oito meses, foram analisados os filés das duas espécies. Todas as amostras tiveram os parâmetros microbiológicos segundo o INVIMA. No painel sensorial não se encontraram diferenças significativas entre os tratamentos. Em tilapia, a estratégia alimentaria teve efeitos no perfil de ácidos graxos, mas não em bocachico. Em bocachico se encontraram relações Ω-6/Ω-3 de 0,7±0,12, em tilapia de 3,9±1,2 e no perifiton de 0,7±0,007. Pela relação Ω-6/Ω-3 e a presença de DHA e EPA, o bocachico tem características para ser identificado como um alimento funcional. O perifiton apresentou níveis altos de ALA, sendo uma fonte apropriada para peixes. Tilápia tem mais alta relação de Ω-6/Ω-3, mas com bons níveis de DHA e EPA.To evaluate the effect of two feeding strategies and the presence of substrate for periphyton on the fatty acid profile, sensory and microbiological characteristics in tilapia and bocachico fillets, we performed a polyculture under a 2x2 factorial design with 3 replicates. The first factor with two levels, A1: food with 20% crude protein [CP] and A2: a meal plan with decreasing levels of PB, (38, 32, 24 and 20%). The second factor B1 substrate and B2 absence of substrate for periphyton. At the end of the cultivation of eight months were analyzed both fish fillets. All samples met the standard microbiological parameters as INVIMA. The sensory panel found no significant differences between treatments. There was no effect of the presence of substrate on fatty acid profile in fish. In tilapia, the feeding strategy had effect on fatty acid profile, not in bocachico. Ω-6/Ω-3 ratio was 0.7 ± 0.12 in bocachico, in tilapia was 3.9 ± 1.2 and 0.7 ± 0.007 for periphyton. Ω-6/Ω-3 ratio was less than 1 and the presence of DHA and EPA, bocachico can be identified as a functional food. Periphyton showed high levels of ALA, which makes it an appropriate source for fish. Tilapia has a higher ratio of Ω-6/Ω-3, but with good levels of DHA and EPA.

La sustentabilidad ha impactado notablemente el ejercicio profesional de la Agronomía, sin que exista claridad en las formas en que se concreta a través de sus prácticas dominantes. Por ello se analiza la manera en que conceptualmente se aborda desde las ciencias, su relación con la naturaleza entendida como bien de consumo y prestadora de servicios, justificando en el proceso su adhesión a la tecnología como medio para el desarrollo social y económico. Sobre esta base se plantea la reconceptualización de la sustentabilidad dentro del campo interdisciplinario de la Agronomía, como un nuevo objeto de estudio que debe ser atendido por la educación ambiental; proceso de trabajo abordado desde la metodología crítica, basado en el pensamiento crítico, lógico y creativo, que parte de un cuerpo teórico de conocimientos previos, en busca de generar un nuevo conocimiento objetivo que permite avanzar en la explicación y transformación de una realidad concreta.
