The aim of this study is to describe the colonization by the Aedes aegypti in the region. A survey carried out in 1985 detected the species in São José do Rio Preto. The mosquito has spread and reached the 30 counties of the region till 1988. In the district and rural areas, the first vector focus was found out in 1987 in one of the 29 districts and rural areas, having spread to the others till 1991. The foci have been mainly identified through larval researches in locations with a great concentration of containers, and the greatest occurrence of larvae of Aedes aegypti has been in tires, the most frequent means of spread. The foci have been mainly identified between November and April, periods of greater incidence of rains. The delimits of foci showed that the containers which were mostly infested by the mosquito in homes have been tires and vases of plants. The most important consequence of the presence of Aedes aegypti has been the occurrence of dengue epidemics.</text>

The immature stages of Heterothrips cacti Hood are described and illustrated and the biological and ecological features of this species in semi arid and high elevation zones of Jujuy province, Argentina, are discussed. Samplings were carried out every fifteen days in San Pedrito during the Opuntia sulphurea var. hildmannii flowering season in 2006-2007. The sample consisted of five flowers of each condition of development collected randomly. In order to know the host plants and the distribution of H. cacti, periodic samplings of the wild vegetation were carried out in the Prepuna and Puna of Jujuy province. The biological studies were performed in laboratory placing flowers of O. sulphurea with eggs of H. cacti in rearing cages in order to control their life cycle evolution. Heterothrips cacti is an anthophilous, oligophagous species associated to cactaceae, widely distributed in the Prepuna and Puna of Jujuy province. The biology of H. cacti is correlated with the one of its host plant, O. sulphurea, presenting two generations per year. Likewise, its life cycle is associated with the evolution of the cactaceous flower. The time of development of the immature stages of the first and second generation was 45 ± 1.5 days and 287 ±3 days respectively. The stage of development through which the species undergoes the period between inflorescences is larva II quiescent wrapped in a silk thread cocoon on the floor. At 5 ºC and 0 hrs light the quiescent state of H. cacti is inhibited. The incidence of larvi-pupal parasitoid Ceranisus sp. during the second generation of H. cacti was recorded.</text>

<text>The genus Candobrasilopsis gen. nov. is here described, with C. rochai gen. nov. sp. nov. as type species, from the alluvial valley of the Upper Paraná River. The enigmatic Candonopsis brasiliensis Sars, 1901 is here redescribed and transferred to this new genus, the new combination being Candobrasilopsis brasiliensis (Sars, 1901). The new candonid genus belongs to the tribe Candonopsini, because of the absence of the proximal seta on the caudal ramus. It is closely related to Latinopsis Karanovic & Datry, 2009, because of the relatively short terminal segment of the mandibular palp (length less than 1.5 times the basal width, while this segment is longer than three times the basal width in Candonopsis) and the large and stout b-seta on the T1. However, it differs markedly from Latinopsis in the size and shape of the calcified inner lamellae of both valves and in the type of hemipenis. We also discuss the doubtful allocation of several other genera to the Candonopsini, raise Abcandonopsis Karanovic, 2004 to generic status and reassess the uncertain position of Candonopsis anisitsi Daday, 1905 within Latinopsis.</text>
