                <text>The COVID-19 pandemic has caused high mortality rates among older people, and in order to avoid a healthcare system crisis, almost all countries worldwide have adopted social isolation measures to prevent the spread of the disease. However, in Brazil, a country demarcated by economic inequalities, in which approximately 25% of the population live below the poverty line, these measures will cost severe economic losses and accentuated starvation. For this reason, the underprivileged population should be immediately prioritized and well informed through good practice to avoid the virus. Since, government discrepancies in dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak leaves the population without congruent guidelines on how to react or what to believe, allowing the spread of fake news and political crises. Here, we discuss who will pay the price of the Brazilian government denying the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and suggest some measures to ensure that clear information and protection reach this population.</text>

Os dados foram coletados a partir das fichas do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN) por técnicos da vigilância epidemiológica. A definição de caso de H1N1 foi feita mediante confirmação laboratorial (RT-PCR positivo) ou perfil epidemiológico positivo de síndrome respiratória aguda grave. RESULTADOS: Foram notificados 1 149 casos suspeitos de gripe A no período, sendo 560 (48,6%) confirmados, resultando em uma taxa de incidência de 241,9/100 000 habitantes. A média de idade dos casos confirmados foi de 29,5 ± 17,1 anos, vs. 32,2 ± 20 anos entre os descartados (P = 0,03). Do total de casos confirmados, 37,1% indivíduos ficaram hospitalizados, com taxa de incidência hospitalar de 89,9/100 000 habitantes e taxa de letalidade de 5,6/100 000 habitantes. Ser jovem, com 30 anos ou menos de idade, ter sinais e sintomas de febre, tosse e dispneia, e ocorrência de óbito foram fatores independentes associados à infecção pela influenza pandêmica (P &lt; 0,05). Nenhuma comorbidade apresentou associação com os casos confirmados de gripe A. CONCLUSÕES: A amostra estudada diferiu do perfil nacional de casos de gripe A no Brasil pela ausência de comorbidade associada, porém aproximou-se do perfil nacional pelo acometimento principalmente de jovens e pela associação significativa com febre, tosse e dispneia. É preciso considerar a ampliação da campanha anual de vacinação, hoje dirigida a grupos de risco, para toda a população.OBJECTIVE: To describe the epidemiological features of influenza A (H1N1) cases in 14 municipalities of Santa Catarina, Brazil, during the 2009 pandemic. METHOD: This cross-sectional study focused on suspected cases of H1N1 reported to the 20th Santa Catarina State Health Administration during the 2009 pandemic between July to September. Data were collected by epidemiological surveillance officers from the Brazilian communicable diseases information system SINAN. H1N1 cases were confirmed by laboratory testing (positive RT-PCR) or signs and symptoms characteristic of severe acute respiratory syndrome. RESULTS: During the pandemic period, 1 149 suspected cases of influenza A were notified, of which 560 (48.6%) were confirmed. That translated into an incidence of 241.9/100 000 population. Mean age for confirmed cases was 29.5 ± 17.1 years, vs. 32.2 ± 20 years for those ruled out (P = 0.03). Of the total confirmed cases, 37.1% were hospitalized, with a hospital incidence rate of 89.9/100 000 people and lethality rate of 5.6/100 000 population. Age &lt; 30 years, symptoms of fever, cough and dyspnea, and death were independently associated with influenza A infection (P &lt; 0.05). There were no associations between confirmed cases and any comorbidities. CONCLUSION: The studied sample differed from the national profile of influenza A cases in Brazil by the absence of associated comorbidities. However, it was similar to the national profile in terms of the young age of cases and the significant association with fever, cough, and dyspnea. An extension of the annual immunization campaign (currently focused on risk groups) to the overall population should be considered.</text>

                <text>Resumo: No Brasil, a década de 1990 representa um marco no que se refere a políticas públicas voltadas à agricultura familiar. Dentre essas políticas, merecem atenção as de estímulo à agroindustrialização de alimentos, que incentivaram inúmeras famílias a processar e a comercializar seus produtos. Como consequência, nas últimas décadas, o número de agroindústrias rurais familiares, sejam formais, sejam informais, cresceu significativamente. Porém, apesar do incentivo à agroindustrialização, esses alimentos são processados e comercializados, em sua maioria, à margem do setor formal, o que ocorre devido, principalmente, aos critérios presentes nos regulamentos sanitários vigentes. Ainda que nos últimos anos tenha havido mudanças favoráveis à legalização de agroindústrias familiares, persistem lacunas e desafios importantes que têm contribuído para a informalidade do setor. Nesse contexto, o objetivo deste artigo é ampliar o debate em torno das características e definições associadas ao processamento de alimentos no âmbito da agricultura familiar e analisar regulamentos federais que constituem o marco regulatório sanitário para esses alimentos no Brasil. Para tanto, além de contextualizar o processamento de alimentos pela agricultura familiar, este artigo analisa regulamentos sanitários que incidiram ou incidem sobre essa atividade agrícola, procurando contemplar distintos valores e qualidades em disputa e também possibilidades para superar lacunas relacionadas a produtos agroalimentares tradicionais e artesanais.</text>

                <text>: Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar o efeito de fertilizantes orgânicos no solo com o plantio de mamona. O experimento iniciou-se em 03 de outubro de 2005 com término em 20 de março de 2006, em casa-de-vegetação, com controle de ambiente, do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa do Algodão (CNPA/Embrapa), no município de Campina Grande, Estado da Paraíba. O material de solo usado para a condução do experimento foi classificado como (NEOSSOLO QUARTÍZENICO de textura areia franca) do município de Lagoa Seca, Estado da Paraíba. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições, totalizando 11 tratamentos, sendo eles, derivados de doses de torta de mamona e de composto de lixo orgânico (quatro doses de cada um deles) e três testemunhas, com posterior estudo de contrastes ortogonais. As variáveis analisadas foram relacionadas a parte de fertilidade e física do solo, tais como: cálcio (Ca), magnésio (Mg), sódio (Na), e potássio (K), carbono (C), matéria orgânica (M.O), nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P), pH, e condutividade elétrica (C.E). Na análise dos elementos minerais e da matéria orgânica do solo em função das diferentes doses dos fertilizantes orgânicos utilizados constatou-se que o composto de lixo orgânico apenas aumentou o teor de magnésio (Mg), enquanto a torta de mamona proporcionou maiores teores de carbono, matéria orgânica e nitrogênio (N)).</text>

                <text>O livro As Novas Ordens Alimentares lança uma abordagem que deve exercer influência significativa nos estudos agroalimentares durante os próximos anos. É uma obra ambiciosa, instigante e desafiadora. Fruto de mais de 10 anos de pesquisas dos professores Paulo André Niederle (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS) e Valdemar João Wesz Junior (Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana – UNILA), em interação com outros colegas e membros dos grupos que integram, os autores se esforçam em compreender e analisar as práticas sociais e os mecanismos institucionais envolvidos na construção, na coordenação e na estabilização dos mercados alimentares e agropecuários no Brasil. Por um lado, eles apresentam um referencial teórico extremamente original e inovador, que sintetiza contribuições da Economia das Convenções, do Neointitucionalismo Histórico e Sociológico e da Teoria das Práticas aplicadas à temática. Por outro lado, oferecem uma ampla e profunda análise histórica do sistema agroalimentar do Brasil, país exemplar nesse âmbito, sobre o qual ambos acumulam um vasto conjunto de dados e informações que lhes permitem pintar um quadro empírico abrangente. Com base nessa combinação de proposta teórica inovadora e evidência empírica abrangente, os autores visam superar a insuficiente contraposição entre as representações dominante do “agronegócio” e alternativa da “agricultura familiar” através de uma interpretação mais complexa e nuançada.                 <text>Neste trabalho se avaliou a qualidade de compostos de esterco de ave poedeira produzidos em pilhas de compostagem e se testaram os seguintes tratamentos: 1) sem gesso e sem revolvimento; 2) com gesso e sem revolvimento; 3) sem gesso e com revolvimento e 4) com gesso e com revolvimento. Para avaliar a qualidade dos compostos foram considerados os padrões do Ministério de Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento (MAPA), estabelecidos para ovos e larvas de helmintos, Salmonella sp, coliformes totais e fecais, Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb, Se, C, N, umidade, relações C:N, C:CTC (Capacidade de troca de cátions) e pH. Os compostos obtidos nas pilhas revolvidas atenderam aos padrões de qualidade, exceto o teor de C, que foi menor. Nos compostos das pilhas com gesso e não revolvidas, o teor deste elemento excedeu o mínimo exigido mas os valores de N, de ovos de helmintos e de umidade, não corresponderam ao padrão do MAPA. Os teores de metais e de Se dos compostos foram menores que o máximo permitido, exceto o de Cd, cujo teor foi elevado no esterco utilizado nas pilhas sem gesso. Este aditivo decresceu o valor do pH dos compostos e aumentou o teor de N das pilhas não revolvidas. Em relação a todos os atributos avaliados, os melhores compostos foram obtidos nas pilhas revolvidas.The quality of poultry manure composts obtained from composting heaps were evaluated, in the following treatments: 1) without gypsum and turning; 2) without gypsum and with turning; 3) with gypsum and turning; 4) with gypsum and without turning. The quality of composts was evaluated with the Department of Agricultural (DA) standards established to the occurrence of eggs and grubs of helminthes, Salmonella sp, fecal and total coliforms, Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb, Se, C, N, humidity, C:N and C:CEC rations, and pH. The quality of composts from the turned heaps agrees with the DA standards, except the C content, which was lower. In the composts obtained from heaps with gypsum addition and without turner, the content of this element was higher than the minimum required but the values of N, eggs of helminthes, and water content did not meet the DA standards. The metal content of the composts was low, with the exception of Cd, but it was due to the high content of this metal in the manure used to make the gypsum heaps. This additive decreased the pH value of the composts and increased the N content of the no turned heaps. Considering all evaluated attributes, the best composts were obtained from the turned heaps.</text>

                <text>Numa pesquisa realizada em tecidos de 638 gatos necropsiados, foram encontrados 13 casos (2,03%) de peritonite infecciosa felina. Oito desses casos (61,53%) eram da forma efusiva ou úmida, e 5 apresentavam a forma seca ou não-efusiva da doença. A idade dos gatos afetados variou de 2 meses a 3 anos. Doze gatos (92,30%) eram de raças puras, cinco deles (38,47%) eram oriundos de ambientes onde havia mais de um gato e três eram provenientes de um mesmo gatil. A duração da doença clínica foi de 7 a 45 dias e os sinais clínicos incluíram emagrecimento, anorexia, diarréia, icterícia, vômito, linfadenopatia e distúrbios neurológicos. Os achados de necropsia na forma úmida incluíam excesso de líquido viscoso (50ml a 1 litro), translúcido ou levemente opaco na cavidade peritoneal e, em um caso, na cavidade torácica. Exsudato fibrinoso cobria as superfícies serosas dos órgãos abdominais dando-lhes aspecto granular e brancacento. Na forma seca, havia múltiplos focos granulomatosos sob a superfície serosa e para o interior do parênquima de órgãos abdominais; esses achados eram particularmente proeminentes nos rins. Opacidade de córnea foi observada em um gato. Histologicamente, havia graus variáveis de vasculite e perivasculite piogranulomatosa, particularmente em arteríolas. Meningite ou meningoencefalite piogranulomatosa foram observadas em três gatos com a forma seca de peritonite infecciosa felina.In a survey carried out in tissue specimens from 638 necropsied cats, 13 cases (2.03%) of feline infectious peritonitis were found. Eight of those (61.53%) were of the effusive or wet form and five had the dry non-effusive form of the disease. Ages of affected cats varied from 2-months to 3 yeas. Twelve affected cats (92.30%) were purebreds, five of these cats (38.47%) came from households with more than one cat and three of them came from the same comercial cat raising facility. The duration of clinical courses were 7-45 days and clinical signs included loss of weight, anorexia, diarrhea, jaundice, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, and neurological disturbances. Necropsy findings, in the wet form included excess of yellowish viscous tanslucent or slightly opaque fluid (50ml-1 liter) in the peritoneal cavity and (in one case) thoracic cavity. Fibrinous exudate covered the serosal surfaces of abdominal organs imparting a whitish, granular, frost-like appearance to them. In the dry form there were multiple granulomatous foci underneath the serosal surface, which extended into the parenchyma of abdominal organs; these findings were particularly prominent in the kidneys. Corneal opacity was observed in one cat. Histologically, there were variable degrees of disseminated piogranulomatous vasculitis and perivasculitis particularly in arterioles. Pyogranulomatous meningitis or meningoencephalitis were observed in three cats with the dry form of feline infectious peritonitis.</text>

                <text>With the coronavirus crisis, remote nature destinations like Chilean Patagonia are worried of a possible collapse of tourism. Local communities, frightened by the risks of welcoming visitors, are withdrawing and protecting themselves. Entrepreneurs hope for a rapid return to “normality” in an area relatively untouched by COVID-19 but they fear the end of the tourism boom, as flying will remain an anxiety-provoking issue in a post-pandemic situation. These destinations have to refocus their offer in order to capture a national clientele, but this seems an unprofitable challenge for isolated areas. While entrepreneurs are refining their marketing plans and government services are establishing their secure reception protocols, leaders of ecological and conservation tourism projects along with rural tourism and leisure migration stakeholders are highlighting their assets. The current crisis could put an end to mass tourism, hypermobilities, projects based on high profitability and overtourism in iconic places. In that sense, the present global socioenvironmental crisis is an opportunity to rethink our relationship with nature and seek ways to strengthen local tourism systems, conceived as places to live and based on environmentally friendly rural economies, cultural, scientific, and traditional exchanges, attractive both to national and foreign visitors.</text>
