A recent taxonomic revision indicated that Macrobrachiumpotiuna, an endemic prawn in Brazilian freshwater drainages, exhibits wide morphological variability along its limited geographical distribution. However, in some cases, taxonomic doubts at the species level have no clear morphological resolution. Considering that no molecular data of M. potiuna along its distribution were available to provide a complete and integrated overview, we analyzed 21 partial sequences (531 bp) from the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene of M. potiuna and 9 sequences from outgroup species, by maximum likelihood and parsimony, in order to investigate the possibility of the existence of cryptic species, within the morphologically based M. potiuna. The topologies obtained revealed that M. potiuna represents a monophyletic clade. Nevertheless, two clades supported by both analyses were formed within the M. potiuna taxon. The mean genetic divergence between these two groups was 0.044 ± 0.007, and within each group (i.e., M. potiuna 'sensu stricto' andM. potiuna 'Affinis-Clade') the divergences were 0.010 ± 0.003 and 0.028 ± 0.005, respectively. As far as we know, this is the first report to show a genetic separation between populations of prawns with abbreviated larval development in South American drainages. Pending additional analysis, to propose a conclusive inference, the existence of these distinct genetic groups must be considered in future studies with the morphologically based M. potiuna. In addition, we extended the known northern distribution with a record from the state of Bahia.

Como forma de estimular a produção de alimentos saudáveis, com prudência ecológica, os mercados institucionais de alimentos passaram a demandar em seus editais produtos oriundos da agricultura orgânica. Porém os agricultores têm muitas dificuldades para levantar os custos logísticos de sua produção, sob pena de estarem tendo prejuízos, caso os negligenciem. Este trabalho teve como objetivo analisar o canal de comercialização de produtos orgânicos da agricultura familiar para o Pnae, a fim de propor uma alternativa para a aferição dos custos logísticos neste processo. Quanto aos objetivos, a pesquisa se classifica como exploratória e descritiva. Quanto à abordagem, qualitativa. Quanto aos procedimentos técnicos, foram utilizados a revisão sistemática da literatura, o estudo de caso em uma Cooperativa que recebe e comercializa produtos de agricultores orgânicos para o Pnae, além de uma análise documental. Os dados foram examinados por meio da análise de conteúdo. Os resultados mostraram que os custos logísticos têm influência direta na formação do preço final dos produtos oriundos da agricultura orgânica, notadamente os relacionados aos custos de transporte e aos custos administrativos. As informações apresentadas poderão servir, por um lado, para as Entidades Executoras na hora de formar os preços de referência dos produtos para publicação nas chamadas públicas, e por outro, para que os agricultores, na composição da formação de preços dos produtos, possam realizar uma avaliação mais qualificada dos preços predefinidos.

As conclusões a que sechegou foram que a modernização gerou um conjunto de rupturas, dentre as quais destacam-se aperda da autonomia típica do campesinato, o crescimento do individualismo e a subordinação doagricultor à indústria. Por outro lado, existe um conjunto de características que continuam sereproduzindo conforme a tradição, mesmo no contexto da modernidade: a centralidade da família, avaloração da comunidade, dentre outras. Palavras-chave: Campesinato, Agricultura Familiar, Avicultura, Anta Gorda/RS. Abstract: Based on the concepts of rupture and continuity proposed by Wanderley (2003), the aimof this work was identify which are the peasant elements that remain current in the socialcharacterization of the poultry creators linked to Integration System in Anta Gorda/RS, despite hisintense modernization. The conclusions we arrived were that modernization has generated a set ofbreaks, among which stand the loss of autonomy typical of the peasantry, the increasing ofindividualism and the farmer subordination of the industry. On the other hand, there is a set ofcharacteristics that keep reproducing according to the tradition, even in the context of modernity:the centrality of the family, the valuation of the community, among others. Este texto tem como objetivo apresentar os conflitos socioambientais por acesso à água no município de São José do Egito, no sertão do Pajeú pernambucano. Adotou-se a perspectiva sócio-histórica na tentativa de superar os reducionismos das concepções empíricas e idealistas ao captar as contradições presentes nas representações, acerca dos conflitos existentes por água no território e entendendo que o espaço é tido como um processo histórico. Para a concretização do estudo, além de outros instrumentos, foram realizadas entrevistas com agricultores e agricultoras rurais, com base no estudo de caso, cuja finalidade foi analisar as representações entre os sujeitos sociais, seus processos de identidade com o território, as características da produção agrícola, bem como a identificação dos conflitos por acesso água. O que se verifica é que os conflitos socioambientais por acesso à água possuem determinações baseadas nas relações de poder historicamente naturalizadas na política e economia local. Estas relações se re-atualizam, sobretudo em períodos de estiagens prolongadas a partir das políticas e programas redistributivos, ficando para um segundo plano, a questão estrutural da realidade que é a ineficiência e ineficácia de políticas hídricas para o município, em específico, para as suas áreas rurais.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do fogo na estrutura, composição florística e diversidade da vegetação espontânea em um sistema agroflorestal com dois tipos de preparo da área: com e sem queima. O sistema agroflorestal foi composto pelas espécies: paricá (Schizolobium amazonicum), açaí (Euterpe oleracea) e cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum). Para a amostragem da flora da vegetação espontânea, utilizou-se um gabarito de madeira de 0,25 m2, lançado, aleatoriamente, 20 vezes em cada área avaliada. Foram calculadas a diversidade de espécies (Índice de diversidade de Shannon) e taxa de cobertura da vegetação espontânea. As espécies inventariadas foram coletadas e enviadas para identificação nos herbários da região. A diversidade de espécies não diferiu estatisticamente nos dois tratamentos. Porém, a maior taxa de cobertura de vegetação espontânea foi observada na área preparada com o uso do fogo. A composição florística da vegetação espontânea apresentou somente 32,3% de similaridade entre as duas áreas. A espécie que apresentou maior importância na flora emergente em ambas as áreas foi Myrciaria tenella (DC.) O. Berg. O fogo influenciou na composição florística e na taxa de cobertura da vegetação espontânea nas áreas avaliadas.

Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o potencial de uso das espécies arbóreas de uma floresta secundária com aproximadamente 30 anos de idade, abandonada após sucessivos ciclos de agricultura itinerante. A área de estudo está localizada em propriedade de agricultura familiar na Zona Bragantina, PA. A área inventariada corresponde a 1,5 ha, onde foram medidos todos os espécimes arbóreos com DAP ³ 5 cm. Verificou-se a ocorrência de 103 espécies, que totalizaram 1961 indivíduos/ha e área basal de 17,7 m²/ha. As espécies com maior número de indivíduos foram: Sacoglottis amazonica Mart., Ormosia flava (Ducke) Rudd, Eschweilera coriacea (DC.) S.A. Mori e Croton matourensis Aubl.. As categorias de uso que apresentam maior número de espécies foram: Construções rurais (33%), seguida das espécies madeireiras de alto valor comercial (30%), madeireiras de baixo valor comercial e as utilizadas como lenha (9% cada).The aim of this paper was to determine the economic potential of a secondary forest with about 30 years of age that was left to regrowth after successive cycles of swidden agriculture. The study area is located in a family farm in the Bragantina Zone, PA. The inventoried area was 1.5 ha, where all the tree specimens with DBH ³ 5 cm were measured. A total of 103 species were identified, corresponding to 1961 individuals/ha and 17.7 m²/ha basal area, the species with most number of individuals being Sacoglottis amazonica Mart., Ormosia flava (Ducke) Rudd, Eschweilera coriacea (DC.) S.A. Mori and Croton matourensis Aubl.. The categories with highest number of species were rural construction (33%), followed by high value commercial timber species (30%), low value commercial and firewood (9% each).

Older people have paid a huge toll in terms of mortality during the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic. Frailty may have contributed to the vulnerability of older people to more severe clinical presentation. We aimed at reviewing available evidence about frailty and COVID-19. We searched PUBMED, Web of Science, and EMBASE from 1 December 2019 to 29 May 2020. Study selection and data extraction were performed by three independent reviewers. Qualitative synthesis was conducted and quantitative data extracted when available. Forty papers were included: 13 editorials, 15 recommendations/guidelines, 3 reviews, 1 clinical trial, 6 observational studies, 2 case reports. Editorials and reviews underlined the potential clinical relevance of assessing frailty among older patients with COVID-19. However, frailty was only investigated in regards to its association with overall mortality, hospital contagion, intensive care unit admission rates, and disease phenotypes in the few observational studies retrieved. Specific interventions in relation to frailty or its impact on COVID-19 treatments have not been evaluated yet. Even with such limited evidence, clinical recommendations on the use of frailty tools have been proposed to support decision making about escalation plan. Ongoing initiatives are expected to improve knowledge of COVID-19 interaction with frailty and to promote patient-centered approaches.

IntroductionThe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the resulting social distancing, determined a reduction in access to care and limitations of individual freedom, with a consequent strong impact on quality of life (QoL), anxiety levels and medical management of onco-hematological people. In particular, in the case of patients with chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), concern about SARS-CoV-2 infection added to the burden of symptoms (BS) which already weights on the QoL of these patients. We designed a cross-sectional survey in order to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on status of anxiety, BS and QoL in MPN patients.MethodsWe analyzed the anxiety levels using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS); BS modifications were studied using the 18 items of the Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Symptom Assessment Form [MPN-SAF].Results132 people answered to the survey: 27 (20.4%) patients achieved a moderate to marked anxiety index value: this group described a greater worsening of symptoms than the rest of the cohort (p <0.0001). Women showed a higher level of anxiety than men (p = 0.01). A trend for lower level of anxiety was reported by patients who performed habitual physical activity (p = 0.06). A total of 98 (74.2%) patients described worsening of their symptoms during the quarantine period; 94 (71.2%) patients had postponed appointments or visits: they showed a significant worsening of their BS (p =0.01).ConclusionThis study first showed that the COVID-19 quarantine had a significant negative impact on the level of anxiety and BS in MPN patients. We identified female gender, absence of physical activity, the need for frequent visit to the hospital and the absence of a direct access to healthcare staff as the main factors associated to a higher anxiety index and worst BS.

We report an imported case of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant P.1 detected in an asymptomatic traveler who arrived in Italy on an indirect flight from Brazil. This case shows the risk for introduction of SARS-CoV-2 variants from indirect flights and the need for continued SARS-CoV-2 surveillance.
