Dieser Artikel beleuchtet – auch im Sinne partizipatorischer Fragestellungen – die Herausforderungen, denen sich Studierende in Zeiten des „home-learning“ gegenübersahen, um an der digitalen Lehre teilhaben zu können. Im Rahmen der zugrundeliegenden Studie wurde untersucht, inwieweit die universitären Maßnahmen bezüglich „home-learning“ sowie weitere (nationale) Regelungen zu Teilhabebarrieren für Studierende wurden. Im Folgenden werden die Ergebnisse dieser Befragung (n=412) unter Studierenden der Bildungswissenschaft der Universität Wien zusammengefasst. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass nicht so sehr der technische Zugang zu Computer und Internet hinderlich ist, sondern vielmehr die Kompetenzanforderungen bestimmter Technologien, die Organisation von Tages- und Wochenabläufen sowie des eigenen Lernens und der Umgang der Lehrenden mit der Situation. Auch steigende Kursanforderungen, der Zugang zur Bibliothek, zunehmende Betreuungspflichten und der (drohende) Verlust des Arbeitsplatzes haben die Teilnahme am „home-learning“ erheblich beeinträchtigt. In affected countries, educators and their teams were faced with a rapidly changing situation that made traditional ways of curriculum delivery impossible and required alternative approaches. Exams have also been affected and a cohort of students has graduated early and now joins the workforce. There is also concern for the next academic year should the pandemic last longer. In this paper we aim to describe wider implications of the pandemic beyond current curriculum delivery, exams and planning. We describe how our own clinical and educational environment has been utterly transformed within weeks and speculate how much these changes will persist after the pandemic. We also describe student concerns and introduce the thought that the pandemic may have positive long term effects as well. Finally, we speculate how COVID-19 may affect student recruitment, multi-professional learning and the current and future undergraduates' view of the profession. Alveolar macrophage-derived cytokines contribute to the inflammation underlying pulmonary disease in COVID-19. We sought to determine if basal macrophage activation, as a risk factor for COVID-19 infection, was present in PCOS and, if so, was further enhanced by vitamin D deficiency.MethodsA cross-sectional study in 99 PCOS and 68 control women who presented sequentially. Plasma levels of a macrophage-derived cytokine panel were determined by Slow Off-rate Modified Aptamer (SOMA)-scan plasma protein measurement. Vitamin D was measured by tandem mass spectroscopy.ResultsVitamin D was lower in PCOS women (p&lt;0.0001) and correlated negatively with body mass index (BMI) in PCOS (r=0.28, p=0.0046). Basal macrophage activation markers CXCL5, CD163 and MMP9 were elevated, whilst protective CD200 was decreased (p&lt;0.05); changes in these variables were related to, and fully accounted for, by BMI. PCOS and control women were then stratified according to vitamin D concentration. Vitamin D deficiency was associated with decreased CD80 and IFN-γ in PCOS and IL-12 in both groups (p&lt;0.05). These factors, important in initiating and maintaining the immune response, were again accounted for by BMI.ConclusionBasal macrophage activation was higher in PCOS with macrophage changes related with increased infection risk associating with vitamin D; all changes were BMI dependent, suggesting that obese PCOS with vitamin D deficiency may be at greater risk of more severe COVID-19 infection, but that it is obesity-related rather than an independent PCOS factor. The purpose of the study is to determine the role of Chinese pragmatism in the application of digital technologies for combating COVID-19. The author identifies the areas where using of digital technologies is possible, and assesses the impact of Chinese pragmatism as a cultural setting on this process. A comparative analysis as the main research method was chosen. The author finds that in connection with the spread of the new coronavirus infection, Europe and the United States prefer to use digital technologies in science and medicine, while China extends their effects to the social field, using face recognition technology, unmanned aerial vehicles and the system of “health codes”. The author suggests that this decision is caused by the peculiarities of Chinese pragmatism, based on the predominance of practice over theory, reality over fiction and earthly life over an incorporeal afterlife. Comparing the characteristics of China’s applied rationality and pragmatism as a philosophical trend formed by C. Pierce, W. James and D. Despite this heterogeneity of neural arrangements, the molecular profiles related to central nervous system patterning seem to be conserved even between distantly related annelids. In particular, comparative molecular studies on brain and anterior neural region patterning genes have focused so far mainly on indirect-developing macrofaunal taxa. Therefore, analyses on microscopic, direct-developing annelids are important to attain a general picture of the evolutionary events underlying the vast diversity of annelid neuroanatomy. Results We have analyzed the expression domains of 11 evolutionarily conserved genes involved in brain and anterior neural patterning in adult females of the direct-developing meiofaunal annelid Dinophilus gyrociliatus. The small, compact brain shows expression of dimmed, foxg, goosecoid, homeobrain, nk2.1, orthodenticle, orthopedia, pax6, six3/6 and synaptotagmin-1. Although most of the studied markers localize to specific brain areas, the genes six3/6 and synaptotagmin-1 are expressed in nearly all perikarya of the brain. All genes except for goosecoid, pax6 and nk2.2 overlap in the anterior brain region, while the respective expression domains are more separated in the posterior brain. Conclusions Our findings reveal that the expression patterns of the genes foxg, orthodenticle, orthopedia and six3/6 correlate with those described in Platynereis dumerilii larvae, and homeobrain, nk2.1, orthodenticle and synaptotagmin-1 resemble the pattern of late larvae of Capitella teleta. Although data on other annelids are limited, molecular similarities between adult Dinophilus and larval Platynereis and Capitella suggest an overall conservation of molecular mechanisms patterning the anterior neural regions, independent from developmental and ecological strategies, or of the size and configuration of the nervous system. Este trabajo se enfoco en caracterizar el SLC, multiplicar la cepa Lactobacillus Helveticus (LH) 0-0.91-celulas libres y evaluar su pertinencia para la producción de ácido láctico a partir de SLC tratado y enriquecido con tres nutrientes; variables que se estudiaron siguiendo un diseño de cuadro greco latino. Para el efecto se llevaron a cabo 16 cinéticas en un biofermentador intermitente conteniendo 250 mililitros de LSLC en donde la mayor producción de acido láctico-17.72 gramos por litro se logró después de las 50 horas para el medio que contiene extracto de levadura 2,5%, riboflavina 0,6% y sulfato de amonio 0,45% operando el biofermentador a 42°C.De esta forma, al producir ácido láctico se evitaría la contaminación de ecosistemas y se generaría un valor agregado a la industria quesera.
