<text>Community structure of the Streptomycesgenus was compare for six land cover types ofthe coffee belt in Quindío (Central Cordillera, Colombian Andes). A plate counting method was used to estimate abundance and morphotypic diversity. Genetic diversity was studied by PCR-RFLP of ribosomal 16S genes. Likewise, ribosomal restriction analysis was used to determine genetic diversity from soil sample DNA community, including the non-cultivable fraction of the community. The analysis showed significant statistical differences on the abundance of Streptomycesamong the six cover types. Similar values of morphotypic diversity were obtained for the six cover types, having “guaduales” and pasture the highest values. It was found that genetic and morphological diversity were dissimilar, except for coffee shaded by banana and Inga. In the culture-independent analysis each cover type was characterized by specificRFLP pattern, the forest cover type presented the highest diversity. The results show that modifications in the cover type exert an influence on Streptomyces soil communities resulting in abundance and diversity variations.</text>
