La abundancia y estructura poblacional son pará-metros importantes para evaluar y comparar el estatus de conservación de una población a través del tiempo en un área determinada. Este estudio describe la abundancia y estructura poblacional de Crocodylus acutus en la laguna Palmasola, Oaxaca. El trabajo consistió en recorridos nocturnos, entre las 21 y 24h, durante la fase de luna nueva para contabilizar el número de individuos y obtener estimaciones poblacionales. El tamaño poblacional estimado fluctuó de 32.7 a 93 individuos según el modelo utilizado. Las tasas de encuentro registradas fluctuaron de 32 a 109.3 ind/km lineal durante los 40 recorridos efectuados con un tiempo promedio de navegación de 18 minutos. Existió una marcada dominancia de la clase III (subadultos), seguido por la clase II y en menor proporción las clases IV y V, así como aquellos individuos en los que no se pudo determinar el tamaño corporal, en ambas épocas del año. Mientras tanto, los individuos juveniles (Clase II) se observaron en mayor proporción asociados al manglar que cubre las orillas del cuerpo de agua (26.1%), los individuos subadultos (Clase III) a menudo se observaron sobre el espejo de agua sin vegetación flotante (22.7%) y entre el manglar que cubre las orillas del cuerpo de agua (15.7%), mientras que los ejemplares adultos se observaron con mayor frecuencia sobre el espejo de agua sin vegetación flotante (9.7%). Con la presente información se contribuye al conocimiento de la ecología poblacional de C. acutus en la laguna Palmasola donde el tamaño poblacional estimado parece mostrar valores altos con respecto a lo reportado en otros estados de la República Mexicana.

Se analizaron los patrones de distribución espacial de las cinco especies de lenguados de mayor abundancia capturadas con redes camaroneras en la plataforma continental del Pacífico central mexicano. Además, se describen las dietas alimentarias e interacciones tróficas entre las especies de lenguados consideradas. Los lenguados se distribuyen entre 20 y 60 m de profundidad. Bothus leopardinus tiene su mayor abundancia durante la época fría (enero-mayo), el resto de las especies no presentaron diferencias significativas entre temporadas de captura (fría y cálida). En general la dieta de los lenguados está compuesta por crustáceos, peces y cefalópodos. B. leopardinus y Syacium ovale son consumidores de crustáceos como cangrejos, camarones y estomatópodos. Cyclopsetta panamensis, C. querna y Monolene assaedae basan su alimentación en peces y cefalópodos. La estrategia alimentaria de las cinco especies analizadas es generalista, ya que consumen un gran número de presas en ambas temporadas del año. Entre las especies de lenguados se observaron valores bajos en la superposición de la dieta por grupos de talla y periodos del año. Las especies de lenguados consumen los recursos alimentarios disponibles y tienden a cambiar sus preferencias de acuerdo a la disponibilidad de presas, lo que les permite eludir la competencia por alimento dentro y entre especies.

Se trabajó de junio de 1986 a febrero de 1987 en una estación de muestreo en el estero Palo Seco y en dos en el estero Damas (Damas y San Bosco), Pacífico Central, Costa Rica. La temperatura del agua no presentó diferencias significativas entre las estaciones Damas y San Bosco, pero sí entre Damas-Palo Seco y San Bosco-Palo Seco. La salinidad varió significativamente entre las tres estaciones y el pH no mostró diferencias significativas. Se recolectaron representantes de 25 familias, 39 géneros y 54 especies. De las especies, 18 comparten los tres sitios de muestreo, siete se hallaron únicamente en Palo Seco, cinco en Damas y seis en San Bosco. De las especies recolectadas, el 7,41% es compartido entre Palo Seco y Damas; el 3,70% entre Palo Seco y San Bosco y el 22,22% entre Damas y San Bosco. El análisis de similitud determinó que las estaciones Damas y San Bosco comparten un 41,40% de las especies; mientras que Palo Seco solamente presento un 9,9% de especies comunes con el grupo Damas-San Bosco. La mayoría de las especies encontradas fueron de origen marino que utilizan estos dos esteros como área de crianza (42,59%) y alimentación (40,74%); mientras que las de agua dulce, estuarinas y visitantes ocasionales están poco representadas. La mayor diversidad se encontró en San Bosco y se detectaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en los valores de H' entre las estaciones. La mayor similitud de especies se presentó entre las estaciones Damas y San Bosco, lo que sugiere que estas áreas están bajo una mayor influencia de aguas continentales; lo que propicia que los peces estén más ampliamente distribuidos. Se deduce que la ictiofauna de los esteros estudiados es transitoria en los sitios de muestreo y que la misma se distribuye heterogéneamente.

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha catalizado una serie de prácticas académicas y cuando la superemos, la geografía y, sobre todo la dinámica de los grupos de investigación será otra. Quizá seremos más eficaces, pero el rasgo que será más indeleble de ese cambio lo constituirá la incorporación cotidiana de prácticas de ciencia abierta, repetible y reproducible. El cambio cualitativo de la investigación a la “e-investigación”, describe nuevas formas de producción y diseminación del conocimiento e impone nuevas metodologías para manejar, administrar, analizar y preservar este “diluvio de datos”. La repetibilidad y la reproducibilidad de los resultados científicos en la ciencia centrada en datos ha sido detectado como un un problema creciente. Las publicaciones académicas están llamadas a transformarse, exigiendo acceso a los datos y aplicaciones computacionales que soportan los resultados. En esta nota editorial comentamos y reflexionamos sobre algunas de las metodologías y herramientas que se disponen para promover la repetibilidad/reproducibilidad de los experimentos. Discutimos el enfoque metodológico que emerge del Instituto Turing del Reino Unido. Presentamos una evaluación de las herramientas para construir repositorios de datos que existen actualmente.

Agrobio é um biofertilizante produzido a partir de esterco bovino fresco, água, melaço e sais minerais, submetidos à fermentação em temperatura ambiente por aproximadamente 56 dias em recipientes abertos. Este produto, desenvolvido pela PESAGRO-RIO (EES) tem sido largamente utilizado por agricultores orgânicos e convencionais no estado do Rio de Janeiro, ao qual atribuem efeito nutricional e de controle de doenças em diferentes culturas. No presente trabalho avaliou-se o efeito de antibiose e de concentrações do Agrobio contra Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, in vitro. Realizaram-se quatro bioensaios, utilizando-se três isolados distintos da fitobactéria, e compararam-se amostras de Agrobio em diferentes estágios de preparação (35; 85 e 115 dias) e submetidos a três tratamentos (autoclavado a 120ºC/20 min; filtrado 0,22 µm; original). Utilizou-se o método de escavação em placa e o efeito dos tratamentos foi medido pelo diâmetro do halo de inibição formado. Constatou-se que Agrobio apresenta ação bacteriostática sobre X. euvesicatoria, independente da idade da amostra e do tratamento aplicado ao produto, e inibição do crescimento do patógeno à concentração acima de 5%, o que sugere a viabilidade de se utilizar este biofertilizante, a partir de 35 dias de fermentação, como medida auxiliar no controle da mancha-bacteriana do pimentão, necessitando porém, de confirmações por meios de estudos em condições de campo.Agrobio is a biofertilizer prepared from fresh cattle manure, water, molasses and minerals, fermented under room temperature in open containers during 56 days. This product has been widely used by organic and conventional farmers throughout Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, to control several plant pathogens of various crops. The antibiotic effect of different concentrations of Agrobio against Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, in vitro vas evaluated. Four bioassays were performed with three isolates of the bacterium. Agrobio was tested in three preparation stages (35, 85 and 115 days of fermentation) and applied raw, filtered (0,22 µm) or autoclaved (120ºC/20 minutes). The effect of the treatments was assessed by the diameter of the inhibition growth halo on Petri dishes. Agrobio presented bacteriostatic effect on X. euvesicatoria regardless of the sample age or pre-treatment. Growth inhibition occurred above 5% concentration, indicating the feasibility of Agrobio, as a bacterial leaf spot control agent, in early fermentation stages (35 days). Field experiments are necessary to confirm these results.

Resumo: Este artigo analisa a experiência coletiva que se desenvolve desde meados dos anos 1980 na comunidade rural de Lagoa dos Cavalos (Russas, Ceará), no Semiárido nordestino, cujas terras são resultantes de partilha por herança, e onde se registra uma forma peculiar de organização que garante à população certa autonomia nas decisões coletivas sobre o desenvolvimento local. O objetivo é verificar a quem são delegados poder e responsabilidade no processo de coordenação da ação coletiva, seu perfil e seus papéis. Optou-se pela pesquisa qualitativa, combinando o uso de fontes testemunhais, documentais e bibliográficas. Utilizou-se a amostragem não probabilística intencional na definição dos atores entrevistados. A conclusão aponta que poder e responsabilidade são delegados a dois tipos de lideranças locais que detêm o reconhecimento e a legitimidade para o atendimento das demandas inerentes aos trabalhos de coordenação das atividades coletivas ou para mediação entre população local, assessores externos e o mundo, conservando relativa autonomia. Os assessores externos prestam apoio técnico e político, além de facilitarem o acesso a recursos financeiros. Ambos, lideranças locais e assessores externos, têm papel importante no desenvolvimento local. Mas são dependentes da organização local, que tem criado mecanismos que permitem construir a cooperação e a coordenação da ação dos atores envolvidos.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da utilização do bioestimulante Stimulate® em plantas de pimentão enxertadas e não enxertadas, em ambiente protegido, no aumento de produção. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, no esquema fatorial 2 x 6, referente a plantas enxertadas e pé-franco e seis doses do Stimulate® (0; 75; 100; 125; 150 e 175 mL p.c. 100 L H2O-1), com quatro repetições. Realizaram-se sete aplicações foliares, quinzenais, do bioestimulante a partir do início do florescimento das plantas e avaliou-se o número total de frutos comerciais produzidos, comprimento, calibre, espessura de parede, massa média e produtividade final, totalizando treze colheitas. As plantas enxertadas foram mais produtivas em relação às plantas pé-franco, produzindo frutos de características agronômicas superiores. No geral, 100 e 125-150 mL p.c. 100 L H2O-1 de Stimulate® promovem incremento na produção de pimentão enxertado e pé-franco, respectivamente.The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of using the Stimulate® biostimulant in grafted and non grafted plants of sweet pepper in a protected environment, to increase production. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a factorial scheme 2 x 6, referring to the grafted and non grafted plants and six doses of Stimulate® (0; 75; 100; 125; 150 and 175 mL p.c. 100 L H2O-1), with four replications. Seven foliar applications of the biostimulant were carried out fortnightly, from the beginning of the plants flowering and the total number of marketable fruits, length, diameter, wall thickness, average weight and final yield were evaluated, totalling thirteen harvests. The grafted plants were more productive than the non-grafted ones, producing fruits with better agronomic characteristics. Os adubos orgânicos fornecem nutrientes, melhoram as condições do solo e também apresentam bioatividade, ou seja, efeitos estimulantes nas plantas. Efeitos como indução de crescimento e melhora na qualidade nutricional vêm justificando a crescente comercialização de bioestimulantes e fertilizantes de base orgânica. Neste trabalho, a bioatividade é discutida com base na fisiologia vegetal. A literatura disponível comprova ações fisiológicas destas substâncias, principalmente no crescimento de raízes e aumento na absorção de nutrientes. Contudo, as abordagens das pesquisas têm focado nos aspectos básicos relacionados às frações extraídas em laboratório, que não representam necessariamente a realidade da matéria orgânica em seu estado natural no solo e sua bioatividade. Por outro lado, conhece-se muito pouco do mecanismo de ação dos produtos comerciais utilizados a campo. Assim, é importante que as pesquisas passem a incluir também aspectos como: (1) indicação de fontes mais promissoras para extração de matéria orgânica; (2) métodos simplificados tanto de extração das frações e da matéria orgânica como para avaliações da sua bioatividade e; (3) experimentos de campo com avaliação da produtividade das culturas associada aos possíveis mecanismos de ação. A utilização criteriosa de novas tecnologias para o aumento da eficiência da adubação dos solos em áreas de cultivo de hortaliças é importante tanto do ponto de vista econômico quanto ambiental.

Os biorreguladores têm sido amplamente aplicados na produção agrícola, e desempenham um papel importante, no crescimento e desenvolvimento das plantas, principalmente em culturas de alto nível tecnológico. Dessa forma, objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar o desempenho agronômico das plantas e o seu rendimento com uso de bioestimulante nas culturas do milho e do feijão. Foram realizados dois experimentos independentes, com a cultura do milho e do feijão, em que os tratamentos utilizados constituíram-se de diferentes doses e formas de aplicação (tratamento de sementes, pulverização na fileira de semeadura e pulverização foliar). O produto utilizado é composto de 0,5 g L-1 ácido indol butírico, 0,9 g L-1 de cinetina e 0,5 g L-1 de ácido giberélico. Avaliaram-se as características: número médio de plantas por metro; diâmetro dos colmos; número de fileiras de grãos por espiga; número de grãos por fileira; número de grãos por espiga; massa de mil grãos e produção de grãos na cultura do milho e número médio de plantas por metro; número de vagens por planta; número de grãos por planta; massa de mil grãos e produção de grãos na cultura do feijão. Conclui-se que o uso de bioestimulante, em milho, proporciona aumento do diâmetro do colmo das plantas de milho, número de grãos por fileira e número de grãos por espiga, porém não interfere o rendimento da cultura. Em feijão, o uso de bioestimulantes, nas diferentes doses e formas de aplicação aumenta o número de grãos por planta e a produção de grãos.
