                <text>Um grande número de pequenas propriedades rurais no Brasil utiliza semeadoras manuais para a operação de semeadura. O fator limitante para a utilização de tratores e equipamentos de maior rendimento nessas condições são terrenos pedregosos ou declivosos e disponibilidade de capital. As semeadoras manuais existentes no mercado mantêm o mesmo princípio desde o início de sua utilização e não sofreram grandes melhorias. Neste trabalho avaliaram-se semeadoras existentes no mercado, classificando-as quanto à regularidade de vazão dos seus mecanismos dosadores. Para a avaliação estabeleceu-se, como meta, a vazão de duas sementes por ciclo. Algumas semeadoras resultaram em baixo desvio-padrão e média próximo de duas sementes por ciclo, enquanto outras apresentaram desempenho deficiente. Não houve algum tipo de mecanismo dosador que se destacasse, sendo seus efeitos encobertos pela qualidade construtiva das máquinas.In Brazil, a great number of small farms still use manual planters, especially in hilly and stony areas. These machines have not received significant design improvements since the start of their usage. Some of these planters available in the market have been tested for their seeding performance for corn. Each machine was set up to deliver two seeds each time. Only a few planters resulted in a low standard deviation and number of seeds close to the target. The performance of the seed meter was affected by the manufacturing quality of the machines.</text>

Una de las principales enfermedades de la yuca y que podría comprometer la seguridad alimentaria es la bacteriosis vascular ocasionada por la bacteria Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis (Xam). El gen candidato de resistencia RXam2 codifica para una proteína con dominios NBS (Nucleotide Binding Site) y LRR (Leucine Rich Repeats) y colocaliza con un QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci) que explica el 61.6% de la resistencia a la cepa CIO151 de Xam. En este trabajo se secuenció parcialmente el gen RXam2 en tres variedades de yuca: MCOL2246, TMS60444 y SG107-35 con el objetivo de tener una visión preliminar del grado de polimorfismos tipo SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) que se presenta en este gen. La región secuenciada incluye 507 pb de la región promotora y 1309 pb de la secuencia codificante. Se logró identificar 5 y 31 SNPs al interior de las variedades MCOL2246 y TMS60444, respectivamente. Al mismo tiempo el número de SNPs entre las variedades fue de 44, 34 y 23 para MCOL2246-TMS60444, TMS60444-SG107-35 y MCOL2246-SG107-35, respectivamente. El mayor número de SNPs estuvieron localizados en la región -500 a -300 pb que corresponden a un fragmento de la región promotora del gen, aunque también se identificó un importante número de polimorfismos en la región codificante. Este estudio permitirá identificar el número de polimorfismos en este gen en un mayor grupo de variedades de yuca con el fin de asociar estos polimorfismos con el fenotipo de resistencia/susceptibilidad.  Palabras clave: yuca; resistencia; polimorfismos; SNP.    Abstract    Cassava is a staple food for more than a billion people. One of the major diseases of cassava which could compromise food security is known as cassava bacterial blight, caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. manihotis (Xam). The RXam2 resistance gene candidate encodes a protein with Nucleotide Binding Site and Leucine Rich Repeats domains, and colocalizes with a QTL (Quantitative Trait Loci) that accounts for 61.6% of the resistance to the Xam strain CIO151. In this work we sequenced 1816 bp corresponding to a partial sequence of this gene in three cassava varieties with the aim of having a preliminary overview of the degree of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). The sequenced regions included 507 bp of the promotor and 1309 bp of the coding sequence. It was possible to identify five and 31 intravarietal SNPs in MCOL2246 and TMS60444, respectively. In addition, the number of SNPs between varieties was 44, 34 and 23 for MCOL2246-TMS60444, TMS60444-SG107-35 and MCOL2246-SG107-35, respectively. The largest number of SNPs was located in the promoter region -500 to -300 bp. This study may help to develop alternatives to identify SNPs in a more diverse group of cassava varieties, and possibly associate them with resistance/susceptible phenotypes.                 <text>The effect of different drying techniques (freeze, convective, vacuum-microwave and combined drying) on the drying kinetics, the phytochemical compounds and sensory characteristics in loquat cultivar ‘Algar’ was studied. The convective drying resulted in the highest amount of total hydroxycinnamic acids (5077 mg/kg wet weight (ww)), with 3-caffeoyl quinic acid and 5-caffeoyl quinic acid being the greatest carotenoids. The highest values of total carotenoids were obtained by the freeze-drying technique (2601 mg/kg ww), followed by all convective treatments and vacuum-microwave at 360 W. The highest carotenoid was β-carotene. The ABTS+• (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) and FRAP (Ferric Ion Reducing Antioxidant Power) values ranged from 2.04 up to 3.27 mmol Trolox/100 g ww, and from 1.89 up to 2.29 mmol Trolox/100 g ww, respectively. As expected, the color difference of freeze-dried samples was the lowest (7.06), similar to combined drying conditions (9.63), whilst the highest value was found after convective drying (37.0). All treatments were sensory acceptable (no off-flavors). However, still, further research is needed to fully optimize these studied drying treatments because the freeze-dried sample still had higher carotenoid content and better instrumental color parameters. Although recently the impact of microwave drying has been studied, this is the first work comparing phytochemical composition of loquat fruit under the different drying methods mentioned above.</text>

                <text>O presente estudo insere-se no âmbito da Psicologia Ambiental, o qual investiga a                resistência dos moradores das comunidades de Santa Cruz e Esperança (Içara/SC) à                abertura de uma mineradora de carvão. Realizou-se um estudo de caso por meio de                entrevistas semiestruturadas com seis sujeitos de duas famílias destas comunidades,                abrangendo três gerações. Buscou-se compreender os significados psicossocioambientais                que os agricultores das comunidades de Santa Cruz e Esperança atribuem às possíveis                ameaças das atividades da mineradora no local. Os resultados inferem que resistir à                mineradora em tais comunidades significa preservar a identidade cultural e de lugar.                Os sujeitos demonstram uma identificação com a comunidade e com o trabalho que                desenvolvem, a agricultura familiar aponta como um elo entre as gerações, que                influencia na construção da identidade social destes, e por fim, permite compreender                o seu sentimento de pertença e a luta pela preservação do seu lugar.</text>

                <text>Este trabalho tem por objetivo avaliar, ainda que de forma preliminar, os efeitos limitantes das mudanças climáticas na produção de oleaginosas agro-energética no semiárido brasileiro, nomeadamente a redução dos índices pluviométricos e aumento de temperatura. Para alcançar este objetivo usa-se como referência a evolução de variáveis climáticas, por meio da série histórica entre 1973 e 2010, e projeções futuras tendo por base os cenários de mudanças climáticas, desenvolvidos para o nordeste brasileiro até 2100. O recorte geográfico é a região de Irecê, no semiárido da Bahia, tradicional reduto da agricultura familiar e grande produtor de alimentos consorciado com oleaginosas. O estudo mostra que  as culturas tradicionais de oleaginosas estão próximas aos limites de exigências hídricas, pelo que, para enfrentar as mudanças nos padrões climáticos, vai ser necessário  um melhoramento genético das culturas tradicionais para que essa espécies consigam tolerar as restrições hídricas. Preconizando-se igualmente a introdução de espécies mais rústicas e com maior resistência ao estresse hídrico.     Palavras-Chave: Agricultura Familiar, Vulnerabilidade e Adaptação às Mudanças Climáticas, Biodiesel, Semiárido.       The Role of Oilseeds in a Climate Change Scenario in the Brazilian Semiarid       ABSTRACT   The present study aims to evaluate the effects of climate changes on the production of oilseed and energy crops in the Brazilian semiarid region. The study is based on the analysis of past climate, by evaluating a historic series of rain and temperature from 1973 to 2010. This historic series is, then, compared to a future climate prediction, based on climatic change scenarios developed for the Brazilian northeast until 2100. The geographic location of the study is the Irecê area of the State of Bahia, in the semi-arid northeast. That is a traditional family agriculture area with a strong food crop and oilseeds production. The study shows that traditional oilseed crops are being cultivated near the limits of their water needs. In order to face the climate changes, such crops would need to be genetically improved to increase their tolerance to water stress. An option would be to introduce species with higher level of tolerance to water stress.    Keywords: family agriculture, vulnerability and adaptation to climate changes, biodiesel, semiarid.</text>

                <text>The yellow passion fruit is a climacteric fruit that presents high perishability when stored at room temperature. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of cassava peanut starch coating on postharvest conservation of yellow passion fruit stored at room temperature. The cassava inner bark starch was extracted by decanting and drying. The starch was used in the preparation of the edible coating, through the gelatinization of the starch. The experiment was set in a completely randomized design (DIC), with a 4 x 3 factorial scheme, with three treatments (control, no coating; and starch in the concentrations 1, 2 and 3%) and three sampling times (0, 7 and 10 days). Physical analysis (peel color, weight loss and juice yield) and chemical analyzes (soluble solids, pH, titratable acidity and SS AT-1 ratio) were performed during this period. The results demonstrated that the treatments were effective in maintaining the visual appearance of the fruits and reducing the mass loss during the ten days of storage. All treatments were efficient during the storage period for SS maintenance, while only only the treatments with 2 and 3% starchmaintained the pH. The tested coatings were not effective in preserving the acidity of the fruits and the SS AT-1 ratio increased from the 7th day of conservation. The coating with 3% of starch presented the best results for all evaluated parameters.</text>

                <text>O objetivo do artigo foi verificar, a partir da análise do Índice de Condição de Vida, se as percepções sobre as condições de vida entre os domicílios rurais com produção (familiar e não familiar) e os domicílios sem produção diferiam estatisticamente. Para tanto, foram realizados testes de comparação de médias (teste T) em que a hipótese nula referia-se a igualdade de médias, ou seja, igualdade nas percepções, e a hipótese não nula, o oposto. Os resultados apontaram que houve diferença nas percepções das condições de vida entre os domicílios com produção agropecuária e sem produção, isto é, aceitou-se a hipótese não nula. Porém, entre os domicílios de agricultura familiar e não familiar, a hipótese nula foi aceita.</text>

                <text>En la actualidad, cuando crece el interés en relocalizar el sistema alimentario, conviene entender cómo funcionaba el territorio cuando ese sistema se basaba en una agricultura de proximidad. Conviene entender a su vez cómo y por qué se descompuso ese sistema, aprendiendo del pasado para avanzar hacia un urbanismo comprometido con la satisfacción de las necesidades humanas de alimentos de una manera más justa y más respetuosa con el planeta. El análisis histórico se centra en el tramo medio del valle del Duero. Los sistemas territoriales que se han sucedido desde principios del siglo XX responden a tres modelos del sistema agroalimentario, que se asocian con las distintas etapas nutricionales. Hay una correlación entre modelo nutricional de superación de la desnutrición, agricultura familiar, en la zona hasta 1950; modelo de consumo de masas y sobrealimentación, agricultura industrializada, que se extiende hasta 1985; y modelo de consumo segmentado, agricultura terciarizada, que dura hasta nuestros días. En esta última fase conviven dos tendencias: una hacia la jerarquización y el productivismo tecnificado y otra hacia la multifuncionalidad y la recampesinización que se reapropia de las innovaciones técnicas. El urbanismo cuenta con herramientas y mecanismos podrían aportar una dimensión espacial y funcional hasta ahora descuidada. Hay indicios que apuntan que el momento para reconsiderar los sistemas agroalimentarios también desde el urbanismo, favoreciendo su relocalización y una transición agroecológica, ha llegado.    The historical review of the relationship between territory and agrifood system provides key lessons to help rebuild the territorial structure, seizing the opportunity offered by a renewed interest in local and sustainable food. The historical transdisciplinary research focuses on the middle reaches of the Douro valley (Castilla y Leon, Spain). After the analysis of the evolution of the region since 1900, it can be concluded that the territory has been organized over time according to three models of food system that are in turn linked to different nutritional stages: a) the nutritional stage of overcoming malnutrition is related to family agriculture, which persists until 1950; b) the model of mass consumption and overeating, built on an industrialized agriculture, which runs until 1985; c) and, finally, the model of consumer segmentation associated with terciarized agriculture, which lasts until present time. Actually two trends coexist: one towards hierarchisation and tech-based productivism, and another one towards multifunctionality and peasantization. Spatial and urban planning are already equipped with mechanisms to integrate the functional and spatial dimension in the reconsideration of agrifood systems. We are missing opportunities, but there are indications that suggest that the moment to relocalize the agri-food system and to foster agroecological transition, has arrived.</text>
