Bahía Culebra se locoaliza en la parte norte de la costa Pacífica de Costa Rica. Es una región de afloramiento estacional, rica en ambientes y organismos marinos, y además, la zona de mayor desarrollo turístico del país. En este trabajo compilo y analizo una lista de 182 publicaciones en revista científcas y 23 tesis, informes y libros sobre organismos, ambientes y procesos marinos y atmosféricos en Bahía Culebra o donde se menciona la Bahía, se presentan y analizan. La gran mayoría de los trabajos, empezando en 1922 con la descripción de un poliqueto, son sobre biodiversidad y ecología. Faltan trabajos sobre algunos ambientes de la bahía, por ejemplo, el bentos de los fondos blandos, y grupos de organismos, por ejemplo, sobre gusanos planos de vida libre. Faltan investigaciones sobre pesquería y manejo de los organismos y ambientes marinos de la Bahía.

Bahía Culebra, Golfo de Papagayo, Costa Rica es una región de afloramiento estacional. Para determinar la relación entre el clima y la variabilidad de la temperatura sub-superficial, se analizaron los registros de la temperatura sub-superficial del mar de nueve estaciones localizadas en la Bahía. El análisis permitió caracterizar su ciclo anual y explorar su relación con fuentes de variabilidad climática que influencian el clima regional para el periodo 1998-2010. Los resultados se contextualizaron usando además los datos de una estación meteorológica automática que funcionó en la bahía junto con el registro de la temperatura superficial del mar para una rejilla que cubre la región de 9-11°N, 85-87°W, para el periodo 1854-2011. Debido a la tendencia positiva encontrada en la región para la temperatura superficial del mar, se concluye que los resultados mostrados asociados a los ciclos anuales y diarios en Bahía Culebra deben ser interpretados bajo un escenario de cambio climático, asociado a un calentamiento ocurrido desde 1854, además coherente con lo observado globalmente, y que su variabilidad climática está influenciada no sólo por aquella ligada a la de El Niño-Oscilación del Sur, en el Pacífico Ecuatorial, sino también por influencias de tipo atmosférico relacionadas con la variabilidad en el Océano Atlántico, debido a que los eventos cálidos (fríos) en Bahía Culebra tienden a ocurrir en concordancia con anomalías positivas y negativas (negativas y positivas) de los índices Niño 3.4 y OAN, respectivamente.Climate and subsurface sea temperature in Bahía Culebra, Costa Rica. Bahía Culebra, Golfo de Papagayo, Costa Rica is a seasonal upwelling area. To determine the relationship of climate and the subsurface temperature variability at Bahía Culebra, we analyzed nine records of sea subsurface temperature from the Bay, continuously recorded from 1998 to 2010. The analysis characterized the annual cycle and explored the influence of different climate variability sources on the subsurface sea temperature and air temperature recorded in Bahía Culebra. Data from an automatic meteorological station in the bay were studied, obtaining the annual and daily cycle for air surface temperature and wind speed. Sea surface temperature (SST) trend from 1854 to 2011 was calculated from reanalysis for the region that coverts 9-11°N, 85-87°W. Because of the positive SST trend identified in this region, results showed that annual and daily cycles in Bahía Culebra should be studied under a warming scenario since 1854, that is coherent with the global warming results and its climate variability is influenced by El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in the Equatorial Pacific and by atmospheric forcing triggered by climate variability with Atlantic Ocean origin, because warm (cold) events in Bahía Culebra tend to occur in concordance with positive & negative (negative & positive) anomalies in Niño 3.4 (NAO) index.

A survey of the published records of marine organisms of Bahía Culebra, an enclosed embayment on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is analyzed resulting in a list of 577 species representing 22 phyla. The most diverse groups documented were crustaceans, cnidarians and mollusks in order of species number. The first published record of any marine organism from the area, a polychaete, occurred in 1922, with a peak of published records of species between 1940 and 1949 and, more recently, from 2000 to the present. Several additional taxa are known from the region but there are no published records of their occurrence. This is especially evident for such groups as the free living flatworms and black corals. Additionally, several habitats, including soft bottom sediments, have not been sampled. Because of the paucity of knowledge on the biodiversity of Bahia Culebra, much more research is needed in order to evaluate and understand the effect of climate change and increasing anthropogenic activities.Bahía Culebra es una bahía semicerrada en el Pacífico norte de Costa Rica. Se recopilaron y analizaron publicaciones en que se mencionan especies marinas de la Bahía. Un total de 577 especies en 22 filos han sido registradas, la mayoría crustaceos, cnidarios y moluscos. El primer informe de una especie marina de Bahía Culebra fue en 1922, un poliqueto. Entre 1940 y 1949 hay un pico de publicaciones con especies de la Bahía, al igual que del 2000 al presente. Se han observado algunos grupos de animales de los cuales no hay publicaciones, por ejemplo corales negros y gusanos planos de vida libre. Igualmente, tampoco hay publicaciones sobre los organismos del bentos blando. Más investigación en Bahía Culebra como también continuar y ampliar el monitoreo de ecosistemas y organismos marinos, es necesario para poder evaluar los impactos por la actividad humana y los naturales, incluyendo el cambio climático.

Los suelos de México exhiben una fuerte degradación física, química y biológica. Existen tecnologías para contrarrestar la degradación del suelo, ayudar a recuperar su fertilidad y secuestrar carbono, como la aplicación de biocarbón (biochar), que es un subproducto de la pirólisis de biomasa residual. Existen experiencias positivas derivadas de la aplicación de biocarbón al suelo, que generan una mejoría en sus propiedades físicas, químicas y biológicas, lo que se traduce en un aumento de la productividad de los cultivos. El biocarbón, por ser una forma recalcitrante de carbono, actúa como reservorio de larga duración de este elemento, retardando su retorno a la atmósfera como CO2, situación que contribuye a mitigar el cambio climático. Un beneficio adicional es que la materia prima para su producción proviene de residuos orgánicos, que a menudo causan problemas de contaminación ambiental. La generación de biocarbón y su aplicación es una alternativa tecnológica que ha sido poco o no empleada en México. El desarrollo de procesos tecnológicos para elaborar biocarbón, factibles de ser implementados en México, constituye un desafío para los tecnólogos locales. Adicionalmente, constituye una potencial fuente de trabajo, no convencional, para productores del sector agroforestal y entidades municipales, al generar ingresos extras dando valor agregado a los residuos orgánicos y al generar un producto con valor comercial. Poco se sabe del efecto que tiene en las plantas el tipo de materia prima empleada para la generación del biocarbón o, de la pirólisis que se usa para su producción; tampoco hay mucha información sobre la presencia de sustancias que pudiesen resultar tóxicas para los microorganismos edáficos o las plantas. Las respuestas a las interrogantes anteriores servirán para generar bases sólidas y proponer su uso como mejorador del suelo y como un mecanismo para el secuestro de carbono en el mismo.

En el presente trabajo nos proponemos describir los saberes agroculturales que aplican los horticultores campesinos de los oasis norte y centro de Mendoza y analizar procesos de ruptura agroecológica. Se utilizaron técnicas cualitativas para dar cuenta de los sentidos que los horticultores dan a su trabajo y al entorno que sienten, perciben y modifican. Los saberes dominantes se imponen a través de una aparente falta de alternativas, mientras que las rupturas agroecológicas plantean una alternativa a través de una síntesis de saberes concretos y abstractos. La organización y la acción colectiva promueven y consolidan la agroecología que favorece el despliegue de una base de recursos que sinergiza el trabajo humano y la tierra viva.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality and the production of biogas and biofertilizer obtained from biodigester supplied with pig feces in the initial, growing and finishing stages, fed with diets formulated based on corn or sorghum. Twenty bench biodigesters were used with hydraulic retention time of 30 days and daily loads that contained 4 to 6% of total solids (TS) and 3.6 to 5.2% of volatile solids (VS). In the effluent of the biodigesters, mean levels of TS were observed ranging between 1.6 and 2.0% and of VS between 1.2 and 1.6%. The mean reductions of TS were 57.7 to 64.7% and of VS from 61.7 to 69.0%, and there was only difference in the finishing phase, in which the major averages reductions were produced by the biodigesters supplied with feces from animals fed with diets based on corn. In biodigesters supplied with feces from animals in the initial and growing stages fed with diets based on corn, were observed higher average productions of biogas and the greatest average potentials of biogas production. The average potentials obtained were 0.033; 0.181; 0.685; 0.788 and 1.132 m³ per kg of affluent, manure, TS added, VS added and VS reduced, respectively. No differences were found on the average content of methane in the biogas between diets and stages. The average concentrations of nutrients N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu in the biodigester affluent and effluent, ranged between diets and stages.Objetivou-se avaliar a produção e a qualidade do biogás e do biofertilizante obtidos em biodigestores abastecidos com dejetos de suínos, nas fases inicial, crescimento e terminação, alimentados com dietas formuladas à base de milho ou sorgo. Foram utilizados 20 biodigestores de bancada, com tempo de retenção hidráulica de 30 dias, e cargas diárias que continham 4,0 a 6,0% de sólidos totais (ST) e 3,6 a 5,2% de sólidos voláteis (SV). Nos efluentes dos biodigestores, foram verificados teores médios de ST variando de 1,6 a 2,0% e de SV entre 1,2 e 1,6%. As reduções médias de ST foram de 57,7 a 64,7% e de SV de 61,7 a 69,0%, sendo que houve diferença somente na fase de terminação, na qual as maiores reduções médias foram para biodigestores abastecidos com dejetos de animais alimentados com dietas à base de milho. Nos biodigestores abastecidos com dejetos de animais em fase inicial e de crescimento, alimentados com dietas formuladas à base de milho, foram verificadas maiores produções médias de biogás e os maiores potenciais médios de produção de biogás. Os potenciais médios obtidos foram 0,033; 0,181; 0,685; 0,788 e 1,132 m³ por kg de afluente, estrume, ST adicionados, SV adicionados e SV reduzidos, respectivamente. Não foram verificadas diferenças quanto ao teor médio de metano no biogás entre dietas e fases. As concentrações médias dos nutrientes N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Mn, Zn e Cu no afluente e efluente dos biodigestores variaram entre as dietas e fases.

O propósito deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção de biogás, bem como os potenciais de produção e a qualidade do biofertilizante obtido com a biodigestão anaeróbia dos resíduos cama de frangos e carcaças de aves pré-compostados. Para tanto, foram pré-compostados cama de frango e carcaças de aves mortas em uma composteira durante um período de 60 dias, período necessário para que ocorresse decomposição prévia das carcaças e assim fosse possível manipular o material para abastecer os biodigestores. Após este período, o material foi utilizado para abastecer os biodigestores batelada de campo com capacidade de 60 litros de material em fermentação. Para o processo de biodigestão anaeróbia, foram efetuadas análises dos teores de sólidos totais (ST), sólidos voláteis (SV), composição química do efluente, potenciais de produção, além do número mais provável (NMP) de coliformes totais e termotolerantes no afluente e efluente. Os potenciais médios de produção de biogás foram: 0,073; 0,152 e 0,141m³.kg-1 de material, SV e ST adicionados, respectivamente. Foram observadas reduções acima de 99% no NMP de coliformes totais e termotolerantes, sendo observado NMP de 3,7 x 10(5) g-1 no início e 7,45 x 10² g-1 no final.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the production of biogas, and the production potential, and quality of biofertilizer obtained from the anaerobic digestion of waste poultry litter and poultry carcasses pre composted. For this were pre composted poultry litter and carcasses of dead birds in a composter for a period of 60 days, time needed to occur prior decomposition of the carcasses and so it can manipulate the material to supply the biodigestor. After this period the material was used to supply the batch field biodigestor with a capacity of 60 liters of material in fermentation. For the process of anaerobic digestion tests were performed in the levels of total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), chemical composition of effluent, and the most probable number (MPN) of total and thermotolerant coliforms in the influent and effluent. The potential average productions of biogas are: 0073, 0152, 0141m ³.kg-1 of material, VS and TS added, respectively. There were reductions of over 99% in NMP of total and thermotolerant coliforms, and observed MPN of 3.7 x 10(5).g-1 at the beginning and 7.45 x 10² g-1 at the end.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o processo de biodigestão anaeróbia utilizando dejetos de suínos, com e sem separação da fração sólida, considerando-se diferentes tempos de retenção hidráulica. Para tanto, foram utilizados biodigestores tubulares semicontínuos abastecidos com água residuária de suinocultura, com e sem separação da fração sólida (CSFS e SSFS, respectivamente), manejados com tempos de retenção hidráulica (TRH) iguais a 36; 29; 22 e 15 dias. A eficiência dos tratamentos foi avaliada pela redução dos números mais prováveis de coliformes totais e fecais, teores de fibra em detergentes neutro e ácido, demandas química e bioquímica de oxigênio e dos potenciais de produção de biogás e metano. A qualidade do biofertilizante foi avaliada quanto aos teores de macro e micronutrientes. A separação da fração sólida acarretou decréscimo nos teores de fibra dos afluentes, o que contribuiu para o aumento da eficiência da produção de metano. Foram observados valores de 0,47 e 0,75 m³ CH4 kg-1 SV adicionado para os afluentes SSFS e CSFS, respectivamente, no TRH de 15 dias. Com o aumento do TRH, houve acréscimo médio de 50% no potencial de produção de metano kg-1 de SV adicionado. Não foram observadas diferenças significativas nas reduções de coliformes fecais e totais, sendo a maior redução de 3,6 10(9) para 3,6 10² NMP 100 mL-1 para o TRH de 36 dias CSFS.This work aimed to evaluate the anaerobic biodigestion process by using swine manure with and without separation of the solid fraction and considering different hydraulic retention times. For such purpose semi continual plug flow biodigestors were used, with residual water from a pig farm with and without separation of the solid fraction, managed with 36; 29; 22 e 15 days of hydraulic retention. Efficiency of the treatments was evaluated by the reduction of the most probable number of total and fecal coliforms, fiber content, chemical and biochemical oxygen demands, besides the biogas and methane production potential and biofertilizer quality. The separation of the solid fraction decreased in fiber content from effluents, what contributed to an increase in the efficiency in the methane production. The observed values were: 0.47 and 0.75 m³ CH4 kg-1 VS added to the effluent with and without separation of the solid fraction respectively, in the HRT of 15 days. With the increase of HRT there was a medium increase of 50% in the production of potential of methane kg-1 VS added. It was not observed significant differences in reduction of fecal and total coliforms. The largest reduction was 3.6 10(9) to 3.6 10² NMP 100 mL-1 for the 36 days HRT.

El desarrollo y perfeccionamiento de métodos y medios para el sensoramiento continuo de la conductividad eléctrica del sueloconstituye un tema de gran importancia en los esfuerzos que se realizan en Cuba para la implementación de métodos de Agricultura de Precisión.En el trabajo se presentan los resultados del estudio de la distribución del campo magnético creado en el suelo mediante una bobina alimentadapor corriente alterna, así como de las corrientes inducidas al suelo y a una bobina receptora, obtenidos a partir de la simulación mediante el empleode software basados en el método de los elementos finitos.Como resultado del estudio se determina una correlación entre la conductividad eléctrica del suelo y las corrientes inducidas en la zona de labobina receptora.El método aplicado abre grandes perspectivas para el desarrollo y perfeccionamiento de sensores para el registro no invasivo de la conductividadeléctrica del suelo.

La redistribución del suelo en las laderas por las prácticas de laboreo representa un proceso de erosión y degradación del suelo de elevada intensidad. En las áreas agrícolas de la cuenca del Río Cuyaguateje, los animales de trabajo son la principal fuente de potencia para las labores agrícolas. El estudio fue conducido en parcelas, y en ellas fueron realizados tres experimentos. El primero: laboreo con arado de vertedera en contorno (c), el segundo, rastrillo perpendicular al contorno (r) y el tercero, arado a favor y en contra de la pendiente (af y c). En todos los casos se utilizaron trazadores para medir la traslocación del suelo y con ello evaluar la erosión por laboreo. A partir del análisis de las mediciones realizadas se observa la tendencia a que el suelo se desplace preferentemente en el sentido de la pendiente en cada parcela. Algunos factores que influyeron en los resultados fueron: 1) la presencia de malas hierbas alteró el movimiento de los trazadores en algunos tramos de la pendiente; 2) La profundidad del laboreo no se mantuvo durante toda la labranza.
