Aiming to evaluate the productivity and quality of fennel fruits produced in the countryside of Sergipe, with no irrigation, they were evaluated organic crops in Frei Paulo-SE. They were installed crops in 2008 and 2009 from seeds, on beginning rainy time. Seedlings obtained from seeds were transplanted in June 2008 and 2009. Besides, after the last harvest of the plants, grown in 2009, it was done a drastic pruning on plants, on May, 2010. The plants were held on the area until their fruits harvest, on december and January of 2008, 2009 and December 2010. The fennel fruits yield was 720 Kg ha -1 in the first crop (2008) and 349 Kg ha -1 at following crop (2009), while the fruits yield obtained from pruned plants was 589 Kg.ha-1. It is suggested that the higher yield at the first year has been due to the higher average rainfall and its greater availability of water. The observed yield in sprouted plants was higher (at 2010) than fennel yield of 2009. It can be explained as a function of precipitation, likely as a function of greater root development and increased number of branches and umbels after pruning and breaking of apical. These results reveal water availability importance to fennel yield. The dried mass of fruits (5.29 g to 1000 fruits), high content of essential oil in fruits (3.2%) and the essential oil composition reveal good quality of fennel fruits of Sergipe.</text>

Thus, the objective of this study was to study and survey themain causes of discarding of dairy cattle females from the family farming herd of Jacaré dos Homens-AL.A quantitative exploratory research was conducted in the rural area of the municipality, applying 40questionnaires to characterize the dairy producer. The questionnaires contained information related tozootechnical indexes, among which, the cause of discard of dairy cows and heifers, forms of replacement, among other aspects correlated to dairy activity. The main causes of discard reported by the producerswere: reproductive problems, present in 37.5% of the properties, drought and food scarcity that prevailedin 27.5% of the cases, mastitis and other causes that include low milk production, advanced age andincome increment, affecting 10% each, respectively.</text>

Agricultura Familiar. Desenvolvimento Rural. Modernização Agrícola. Abstract: This paper assesses the effects of the National Program for Strengthening Family Farming (PRONAF) on family farming in Brazil, based on the study of the trajectory of the program from its inception in the mid-1990s to the beginning of the second decade of the 21stcentury. The goal of the research that supports this article is to contextualize PRONAF under the policies for rural development and family farming support, basedon analysis of normative changes made to the program since its creation. It was foundthat, despite the changes and enhancements made to PRONAF over time, the trend forallocation of resources to more capitalized segments of family farming nd agricultureregions with more dynamism has not been reversed. To achieve the objectives of theresearch, the following were conducted: literature review on family farming, ruraldevelopment, public policies, and agriculture modernization; and review of documentsand official data on the websites of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics(IBGE) and the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA).

In order to increase and accelerate the process of seed germination and obtain a high yield and homogeneity of papaya seedlings cv. Maradol in nurseries, we evaluated the effect of three biofertilizers applied single or in combination (Azotobacter chroococcum, Azospirillum brasilense and Glomus intraradices) and a plant growth bioregulator, the gibberellic acid 3 (AG3), on the germination and subsequent growth of papaya seedlings. An experimental design completely random with eight treatments and three replications were used. The application of a pre-germinal treatment with alternating temperature had to be applied to seeds to overcome dormancy. Single biofertilization with A. chroococcum and A. brasilense, promoted the germination percentage 90.28 y 88.89% respectively. Germination rate could be enhanced and the mean germination time was reduced with the application of biofertilizer and AG3. Both applications on seeds and leaves of biofertilizers and AG3, had a positive effect on plant growth. The population of A. chroococcum was higher in the combined inoculation with G. intraradices. The prevalence of colonization of plants inoculated with G. intraradices ranged from 18.53 to 26.67%, with the greatest values recorded for the treatment involving combined inoculation with A. brasilense. Finally, with the application of this methodology the seed germination rate was improved, as well as the uniformity of seedlings emergence. Key words: Azospirillum brasilense; Azotobacter chroococcum; Glomus intraradices; gibberellic acid; dormancy.</text>

<text>The purpose of this work was to analyze the social-economical contributions from the followup procedure carried out by the Project: Reference Networks for Family Agriculture, which is being developed in the State of Paraná since 1998, in partnership with the Agronomical Institute of Paraná (IAPAR) and the Rural Extension and Technical Assistance Company of the State of Paraná (EMATER/PR). This analysis consists of two stages: firstly, the accomplishment of an economical-financial analysis, based on the data gathered in one of the followed-up properties, trying to identify if there was an increase in the income of this family and a better use of the production factors (land, capital and labor); secondly, by means of an interview with a semistructured questionnaire, it was tried to identify and analyze the family farmer’s perspective about his participation in this project as well as his level of satisfaction.
