Se presentan los fundamentos epistémicos de la formación agropecuaria. En la sistematización de los referentes teóricos se plantean como los fundamentos epistémicos de la formación agropecuaria : las ideas martianas acerca de la agricultura y la instrucción; la agroecología como una ciencia con la existencia de niveles de complejidad y de relación, que posibilitan abordar la complejidad de la realidad desde diversos enfoques epistemológicos unido a su concepción participativa de los movimientos sociales y transformadora de la realidad considerando el diálogo de saberes, la lucha por la equidad, la autodeterminación y la justicia social; la visión agrosemiótica del proceso de formación y la integración de las potencialidades de los servicios ecosistémicos de la agrobiodiversidad. Se conceptualiza la formación agropecuaria (FA) como proceso complejo, dinámico, hermenéutico y dialógico de apropiación de la actividad agropecuaria sobre la base de la interacción de sus dimensiones: cultural, social, económica, política, demográfica y natural para asegurar la soberanía y seguridad alimentaria en su orientación a la sostenibilidad.

O tripes Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) provoca grandes prejuízos em cultivos comerciais de alface, através do dano direto, durante a alimentação no tecido vegetal, e pela transmissão de virose. O desenvolvimento de novas estratégias de controle da praga em cultivos protegidos vem se tornando necessária em função dos problemas acarretados pelo uso constante de inseticidas químicos. Foi avaliada a eficiência de pulverizações do fungo Metarhizium anisopliae (Metsch.) Sorokin (isolado 1104) nas concentrações 5x10(6) e 1x10(8) conídios ml-1, visando o controle da praga em cultivos de alface hidropônico. A eficiência de controle do fungo nas duas concentrações chegou a 60%, seis dias após a primeira pulverização. Nas parcelas que não receberam o tratamento com o patógeno, observou-se um aumento populacional de 46,5%. Contudo, o número de adultos capturados em armadilhas adesivas foi semelhante para áreas tratadas e não tratadas, devido à alta mobilidade da praga na cultura. Constatou-se também um número crescente de adultos mortos com estruturas do patógeno, nas parcelas pulverizadas com o fungo. A ausência de toxicidade e de período de carência dos fungos entomopatogênicos torna estes microrganismos importantes na substituição de alguns inseticidas químicos na cultura do alface. Estudos mais detalhados sobre a utilização de M. anisopliae em cultivos protegidos são necessários para aplicações em grande escala.

Visando selecionar fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) e substratos para produção de mudas micropropagadas de alpinia (Alpinia purpurata) e sorvetão (Zingiber spectabile), conhecidas espécies ornamentais tropicais, foram inoculadas mudas com 1.500 propágulos infectivos de Gigaspora albida, Glomus etunicatum e Acaulospora longula, em recipientes contendo: (a) solo; (b) solo e vermicomposto (3:1) e (c) solo, areia e vermicomposto (2:2:1). O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado em fatorial de: quatro tratamentos de inoculação (três com FMA e controle não inoculado), três substratos, oito repetições, para cada vegetal. Após 70 (Z. spectabile) e 100 (A. purpurata) dias da inoculação, parâmetros de crescimento da planta foram avaliados tais como altura, número de folhas e perfilhos, massa seca da parte aérea e subterrânea, área foliar, e ainda a colonização micorrízica e a esporulação dos FMA. Não houve interações significativas entre os FMA e os substratos testados. Em A. purpurata os dois substratos com vermicomposto promoveram maior desenvolvimento; em Z. spectabile, apenas o substrato com maior proporção do fertilizante orgânico induziu crescimento diferenciado. A aplicação de adubo reduziu a colonização micorrízica nos dois hospedeiros e a esporulação de A. longula. Na fase de aclimatação, o uso de substratos orgânicos favorece a formação de mudas vigorosas de alpinia e sorvetão, mas pode ser prejudicial para a comunidade de FMA.To select AMF and substrates that enhance production of micropropagated seedlings of Alpinia purpurata and Zingiber spectabile, tropical ornamental species, seedlings were inoculated with 1,500 infective propagules of Gigaspora albida, Glomus etunicatum and Acaulospora longula, in pots containing: (a) soil; (b) soil and vermicompost (3:1); (c) soil, sand and vermicompost (2:2:1). The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial of: four inoculation treatments (three with AMF and uninoculated control), three substrates, with eight replicates for each plant species. After 70 (Z. spectabile) and 100 (A. purpurata) days of inoculation, plant growth parameters such as height, leaf and offshoots number, dry mass of shoots and roots, leaf area, as well as mycorrhizal colonization, AMF sporulation were evaluated. Significant interactions were not observed between AMF and substrates. In A. purpurata, the two substrates with vermicompost promoted growth, while in Z. spectabile only the substrate with higher proportion of this compound enhanced plant growth. Use of vermicompost reduced mycorrhizal colonization in both hosts and the sporulation of A. longula. During the acclimatization period, application of organic amendment is useful to induce formation of healthy seedlings of A. purpurata and Z. spectabile but it may be harmful to the AMF community.

Os fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) apresentam um grande potencial biotecnológico, mas, para que seu emprego seja bem-sucedido, é necessário conhecer como esses organismos respondem às práticas agrícolas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de duas formas de manejo, convencional e orgânica, em pomares e viveiros de citros, nas comunidades de FMA, comparadas com solo de mata nativa. Um total de 36 amostras de solo foram coletadas, e suas características químicas e a ocorrência de espécies de FMA foram avaliadas. Os sistemas de manejo não alteraram as comunidades de FMA, apesar das modificações químicas no solo causadas pelas aplicações de fertilizantes orgânicos, que elevaram os valores de pH, matéria orgânica, Ca e magnésio. No entanto, as comunidades foram afetadas pelo tempo de implantação e pelas regiões onde se localizam os pomares e viveiros. Estas diferenças se devem provavelmente à estabilidade dos pomares mais antigos e às características evolutivas de cada local.Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) present a great biotechnological potential, but to be successfully applied, it is necessary to know how these organisms react to agricultural practices. This research aimed to verify the effects of two management systems, conventional and organic, applied to citrus orchards and nurseries, on AMF communities, compared to soil from a native forest. A total of 36 soil samples were collected, and their chemical characteristics and AMF species occurrence were evaluated. Management systems did not change AMF communities, even with the soil chemical alterations due to organic fertilizers amendment, which increased pH, organic matter, calcium and magnesium values. However, communities were affected by the time of implementation and regions where orchards and the nurseries were located. These differences are probably due to the stability of older orchards and the evolutionary characteristics of each local.

De março/1988 a julho/1990, em 14 ocasiões, foram coletadas 410 amostras de solo de rizosfera de plantas do litoral arenoso da Ilha do Cardoso, SP, Brasil, com finalidade de se conhecer a micota de fMA. Foram investigadas as rizosferas das plantas: Baccharis trimera DC., Blutaparon portulacoides (St. Hil.) Mears, Dalbergia hecastaphylla (L.) Taub., Hydrocotyle bonariensis Lam., Ipomoea pes-caprae (L.) Swett e Polygala cyparisseas St. Hil. & Moq. Verificaram-se 24 espécies de fMA. Os resultados obtidos permitiram constatar que: a) há tendência em ter-se aumento no número de esporos no solo com o aumento da temperatura, precipitação e insolação; b) diferentes espécies de fMA ocorrem em diferentes espécies de plantas hospedeiras, sugerindo a existência de especificidade ecológica; c) há maior abundância de esporos das espécies de Acaulospora, Gigaspora e Scutellospora sobre as de Glomus. Não se verificou relação entre a fenologia das plantas hospedeiras, o número de esporos no solo e a porcentagem de colonização das raízes.From March/1988 to July/1990, in 14 opportunities, it was collected 410 soil samples of rhizospheres of native plants from sandy soils of Ilha do Cardoso, SP, Brazil to investigate the occurrence of AM fungi. The studied plants were: Baccharis trimera DC., Blutaparon portulacoides (St. Hil.) Mears, Dalbergia hecastaphylla (L.) Taub., Hydrocotyle bonariensis Lam., Ipomoea pes-caprae (L.) Swett and Polygala cyparisseas St. Hil. It was observed 24 species of AM fungi. The results showed: a) a tendency to increase the number of spores in the soil with the increase of the temperature, rainfall and sunlight; b) different species of AM fungi occurred in different species of hosts, suggesting ecological specificity of AM fungi; c) it was observed higher abundance of spores of Acaulospora, Gigaspora and Scutellospora over spores of Glomus and Sclerocystis. It was not observed relatonships between the number of spores in the soil, taxa of colonization of the roots and the fenology of hosts plants.

The evolutionary origins of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus (MERS-CoV) are unknown. Current evidence suggests that insectivorous bats are likely to be the original source, as several 2c CoVs have been described from various species in the family Vespertilionidae. Here, we describe a MERS-like CoV identified from a Pipistrellus cf. hesperidus bat sampled in Uganda (strain PREDICT/PDF-2180), further supporting the hypothesis that bats are the evolutionary source of MERS-CoV. Phylogenetic analysis showed that PREDICT/PDF-2180 is closely related to MERS-CoV across much of its genome, consistent with a common ancestry; however, the spike protein was highly divergent (46% amino acid identity), suggesting that the two viruses may have different receptor binding properties. Indeed, several amino acid substitutions were identified in key binding residues that were predicted to block PREDICT/PDF-2180 from attaching to the MERS-CoV DPP4 receptor. To experimentally test this hypothesis, an infectious MERS-CoV clone expressing the PREDICT/PDF-2180 spike protein was generated. Recombinant viruses derived from the clone were replication competent but unable to spread and establish new infections in Vero cells or primary human airway epithelial cells. Our findings suggest that PREDICT/PDF-2180 is unlikely to pose a zoonotic threat. Recombination in the S1 subunit of the spike gene was identified as the primary mechanism driving variation in the spike phenotype and was likely one of the critical steps in the evolution and emergence of MERS-CoV in humans.

Bananas and plantains (Musa spp.) are among the main staple of millions of people in the world. Among the main Musaceae diseases that may limit its productivity, Fusarium wilt (FW), caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), has been threatening the banana industry for many years, with devastating effects on the economy of many tropical countries, becoming the leading cause of changes in the land use on severely affected areas. In this article, an updated, reflective and practical review of the current state of knowledge concerning the main agro-environmental factors that may affect disease progression and dissemination of this dangerous pathogen has been carried out, focusing on the Venezuelan Musaceae production systems. Environmental variables together with soil management and sustainable cultural practices are important factors affecting FW incidence and severity, excluding that the widespread dissemination of Foc, especially of its highly virulent tropical race 4 (TR4), is mainly caused by human activities. Additionally, risk analysis and climatic suitability maps for Foc TR4 in Venezuela have been developed. Although currently there are no effective management solutions available for FW control, this perspective provides an overview on the influence that environmental and agricultural variables would have on FW incidence and severity, giving some insight into management factors that can contribute to reducing its detrimental effects on banana production and how climate change may affect its development.

Desde sus orígenes, el balón pie se ha visto relacionado con la seguridad en varias de sus dimensiones, de manera intrínseca, reciproca e incluso complementaria. Sin embargo, por la popularidad de la cual goza, y su capacidad para conglomerar efervescentes aficionados, se ha malinterpretado su rol dentro de las sociedades donde éste es aceptado. Cabe preguntarse si este catalizador de grandes pasiones resulta entonces una vulneración de dicha seguridad en el desenvolvimiento de sus interacciones. ¿Es el fútbol un generador de violencia? ¿La seguridad se ve afectada por este deporte? La relación de estos dos elementos resulta innegable, evidenciando vulnerabilidades y sensibilidades, por lo cual, este documento pretende analizar su correspondencia, y las externalidades de la misma. Para ello, se realizará un análisis breve de las principales prevaricaciones de la seguridad, y contrastarla con una mirada desde las relaciones generadas a partir de jugadores profesionales que migraron a las ligas más importantes del planeta, producto de la exportación de los mismos al fútbol europeo (puntualmente, Alemania, España, Italia y Portugal). Las cuales como saldo no sólo abren mercados e incentivan la presencia nacional en el viejo continente, sino tienen una serie de repercusiones encarnadas en la labor dentro y fuera de las canchas de cada uno de los jugadores, visibilizando a Colombia dentro de una agenda Soft Power, y retribuyendo beneficios económicos y sociales a sus regiones de origen (escuelas de fútbol, fundaciones, presencia mediática y gubernamental).
