<text>This study proposes to recover the Mandacarú Stream, located in the city of Maringá, Paraná State, Brazil by developing a greenway. The stream in question has been extremely degraded, principally by human activity. The proposed methodology begins with preparing a scenario for the valley floor with a greenway in place. This is followed by an investigation of the corridor’s ecological and cultural variables, taking a holistic view to synthesise and diagnose the information collected. Guidelines for recovering the valley floor and developing the greenway are then drawn up to direct the preparation of the final plan. As a result, the principal environmental impacts that undermine the quality of the study area were surveyed, such as erosion, loss of riparian vegetation, illegal sewage connections and lack of environmental education. A list of guidelines was developed for recovering and conserving the area, in combination with the development of a greenway along the valley floor. It is hoped that these guidelines can assist a future intervention at this location and that the proposed method can be used as the basis for the recovery of other urban valley floors.O presente estudo propõe a recuperação do fundo de vale do córrego Mandacarú, localizado na cidade de Maring, Estado do Paraná, por meio da implantação de um parque linear.

Elodea (Egeria densa), a problem in lakes and lagoons of Colombia, could be a raw material to produce cheap and good quality organic fertilizers. To evaluate the elodea for organic compost production, fertilizers were elaborated with six formulations: 1) Elodea 50% dolomitic lime 20% yeast 5% melasse 5% hene manure 20%. 2) Elodea 60% dolomitic lime 10% yeast 3% melasse 8% hene manure 19%. 3) Elodea 70% dolomitic lime 15% yeast 2% melasse 3% hene manure 10%. 4) Formulation 1 + earthworm fertilizer. 5) Formulation 2 + earthworm fertilizer. Formulation y 6) Formulation 3 + earthworm fertilizer. For each fertilizer the total content of N, P2O5, K2O, MgO, CaO, total oxidised carbon, coliforms and C:N were analyzed. Under greenhouse conditions the effect of the fertilizers were evaluated in an Andisol and with lettuce as indicator. During production of the fertilizer temperature and pH were observed. The results showed significant effect of the elements among organic fertilizer. The composition of these fertilizers was according to the requisites for Colombian Organic Fertilizers. The greenhouse experiment showed significant effect of sources and levels on yield and N-P-K content of the lettuce. In general, the formulation three was the best. The pH of the fertilizers varied from 7.0 to7.3, considered adequate. The feasibility to produce good quality organic fertilizers from elodea was demonstrated.</text>

<text>Yellow rust (YR) or stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striformis f. sp tritici Eriks (Pst), is a major challenge to resistance breeding in wheat. A genome wide association study (GWAS) was performed using 22,415 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and 591 haplotypes to identify genomic regions associated with resistance to YR in a subset panel of 419 pre-breeding lines (PBLs) developed at International Center for Maize and Wheat Improvement (CIMMYT). The 419 PBLs were derived from an initial set of 984 PBLs generated by a three-way crossing scheme (exotic/elite1//elite2) among 25 best elites and 244 exotics (synthetics, landraces) from CIMMYT’s germplasm bank. For the study, 419 PBLs were characterized with 22,415 high-quality DArTseq-SNPs and phenotyped for severity of YR disease at five locations in Mexico. A population structure was evident in the panel with three distinct subpopulations, and a genome-wide linkage disequilibrium (LD) decay of 2.5 cM was obtained. Across all five locations, 14 SNPs and 7 haplotype blocks were significantly (P < 0.001) associated with the disease severity explaining 6.0 to 14.1% and 7.9 to 19.9% of variation, respectively. Based on average LD decay of 2.5 cM, identified 14 SNP–trait associations were delimited to seven quantitative trait loci in total. Seven SNPs were part of the two haplotype blocks on chromosome 2A identified in haplotypes-based GWAS. In silico analysis of the identified SNPs showed hits with interesting candidate genes, which are related to pathogenic process or known to regulate induction of genes related to pathogenesis such as those coding for glunolactone oxidase, quinate O-hydroxycinnamoyl transferase, or two-component histidine kinase. The two-component histidine kinase, for example, acts as a sensor in the perception of phytohormones ethylene and cytokinin. Ethylene plays a very important role in regulation of multiple metabolic processes of plants, including induction of defense mechanisms mediated by jasmonate. The SNPs linked to the promising genes identified in the study can be used for marker-assisted selection.</text>
