This study estimates the volatility spillover among twelve European stock markets representing all four regions of Europe. The data consists of 10,990 intraday observations from 2 December 2019 to 29 May 2020. Using the methodology of Diebold and Yilmaz , we use static and rolling windows to characterize five-minute volatility spillovers. Our results show that 77.80% of intraday volatility forecast error variance in twelve European markets comes from spillovers. Furthermore, the highest gross directional volatility spillovers are found in Sweden and the Netherlands, while the minimum spillovers to other stock markets are observed in the stock markets of Poland and Ireland. However, German and Dutch markets transmit the highest net directional volatility spillovers. Splitting the whole sample in pre- and post-pandemic declaration (11 March 2020) we find more stable spillovers in the latter. The findings reveal important information about European stock market interdependence during COVID-19, which will be beneficial to both policy-makers and practitioners. O sistema de lagoas de estabilização em série apresentou 88% de eficiência na remoção da DQOt e 91% na remoção de DBO5. Os elementos Mg, Fe, Mn e P foram removidos nos percentuais de 66; 83; 33 e 54%, respectivamente. A eficiência de remoção de N-Total foi de 24%. K, Ca e S, foram removidos em 40; 31; e 52%, respectivamente. O sistema de lagoas de estabilização em série estudado demonstrou ser eficiente no abatimento de nutrientes, demonstrando características favoráveis ao reaproveitamento dos dejetos como biofertilizante. We exemplify this through a study of the relations among demographic variables and environmental quality in the Piracicaba and Capivari River Basins. Demographic vectors were found by a principal coordinates analysis, and then were correlated with variables of sanitation and of vegetation cover. This analysis revealed the structure of correlations among the variables, suggesting causative hypotheses, as well as practical guidelines in environmental management. Multivariate analyses are very effective in exploring structural links among many variables, which makes them an important tool in interdisciplinary studies on environment. All-causes mortality in Portugal increased during March and April 2020 compared to previous years, but this increase is not explained by COVID-19 reported deaths. The aim of this study was to analyze and consider other criteria for estimating excessive all-causes mortality during the early COVID-19pandemic period. Material and Methods: Public data was used to estimate excess mortality by age and region between March 1 and April 22, proposing baselines adjusted for the lockdown period. Results: Despite the inherent uncertainty, it is safe to assume an observed excess mortality of 2400 to 4000 deaths. Excess mortality was associated with older age groups (over age 65). Discussion: The data suggests a ternary explanation for early excess mortality: COVID-19, non-identified COVID-19 and decrease in access to healthcare. The estimates have implications in terms of communication of non-pharmaceutical actions, for research, and to healthcare professionals. Conclusion: The excess mortality occurred between March 1 and April 22 was 3.5- to 5-fold higher than what can be explained by the official COVID-19 deaths.
