                <text>The first two novels from Margaret Atwood’s projected MaddAddam eco-trilogy, Oryx and Crake (2003) and The Year of the Flood (2009) depict a corporate capitalism, or corporatism, constantly pushing its limits by privileging unregulated techno-scientific endeavours with palpable results and high financial yield. This lack of regulation—legal, ethical, moral—emerges as the main problem highlighted by the two companion dystopias. This article argues that Atwood critiques the privileging of the techno-scientific epistemology to the detriment of the humanistic one, and emphasizes the need for an integrated episteme in an immanent system. Methodologically, the comparative analysis focuses on close readings of illustrative excerpts from the novels, side by side with Michel Foucault’s theorization of the episteme and Félix Guattari’s concept of the three ecologies, while Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari’s description of the plane of immanence of capitalism informs the conceptualization of corporatism.</text>

                <text>O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de densidades de plantio e doses de biofertilizante comercial na produção de capim-limão (Cymbopogon citratus (D.C.) Stapf). O experimento foi implantado em parcelas subdivididas com três repetições, colocando-se nas parcelas as densidades de plantio (33.333, 49.382, 55.555 e 111.111 plantas ha-1) e nas subparcelas as doses de biofertilizante (0; 20; 40 e 60 t ha-1). Foram realizadas nove colheitas em intervalos de 42 dias. Avaliou-se a sobrevivência, a altura de planta, o número de perfilhos por touceira, a massa seca por touceira e da parte aérea, o teor e o rendimento de óleo essencial. O teor de óleo essencial não foi influenciado pelas densidades de plantio e doses de biofertilizante. A densidade crescente resultou em regressões lineares crescentes para o rendimento de óleo essencial e a massa seca da parte aérea e em uma regressão linear decrescente para a massa seca por touceira. A dose de biofertilizante resultou em regressões lineares crescentes para o rendimento de óleo essencial e a massa seca por touceira e da parte aérea. A densidade de 111.111 plantas ha-1 (0,30 x 0,30 m) e a dose de biofertilizante de 60 t ha-1 no primeiro ano de cultivo poderão ser recomendados para produção do capim-limão.The aim of this work was to evaluate the plant density and biofertilizer levels on lemon grass (Cymbopogom citratus (D.C.) Stapf). The experiment was installed in split plot design with three replications, having plant density as plots (33,333; 49,382; 55,555 and 111,111 plants ha-1) and biofertilizer doses as sub plots (0; 20; 40; 60 t ha-1 year-1). Nine cuttings were realized using an interval of 42 days between cuttings. We evaluated survival, plant height, number of tillers per plant, dry weight per plant and of biomass yield, essential oil content and yield. The essential oil content was not influenced by the plant densities and biofertilizer doses. The crescent density resulted in a crescent linear regression for essential oil yield and dry weight of biomass yield and in a declining linear regression for dry weight per plant. The biofertilizer dose resulted in a crescent linear regression for essential oil yield and dry weight per plant and of biomass yield. The plant density of 111.111 plants per hectare (0.30 x 0.30 m) and the biofertilizer dose of 60 t ha-1 year-1 can be recommended for lemon grass production in the first year.</text>

                <text>El problema de la contribución del capital natural en las trayectorias decrecimiento de la agroindustria regional cobra actualidad y representaun estancamiento del crecimiento de la economía nacional basadaen actividades extractivas, en la cual la agroindustria, juega un rolimportante en la reactivación del crecimiento económico del país. Elobjetivo de este trabajo es determinar y establecer la influencia delcapital natural en las trayectorias de crecimiento de la agroindustria,en términos de producción, en el Perú. Los resultados obtenidos, encuanto a tasas de crecimiento, señalan que para la agroindustria detipo C3 tiene patrones mixtos, similar al caso de las cadenas del tipoC2 y C1. En cuanto, a presiones y cargas ambientales se halló una depresión del 15 al 25% para el suelo, del 25 y 40% para el agua, con unageneración de residuos sólidos (45 y 60%) para las cadenas del tipo C1.Se determinó que entre el 25 y 35% son las presiones en el suelo, y queel 40 a 45% de tales volúmenes descansan en las demandas de agua. Porotro lado, el 28 al 35% de los volúmenes producidos se traducen enresiduos para las cadenas C2, tendencia que es extensible a las cadenasC3. Se concluye que la agroindustria nacional sigue por el modeloexpansivo, es decir, a mayor crecimiento mayor consumo de capitalnatural (recursos naturales) y mayor generación de contaminantes.</text>

                <text>Compreender a atual crise global pelo panorama ambiental requer reconhecimento, disposição e vontade para pensar e criar possibilidades de uma ação justa e em concordância com o paradigma ecológico, em prol da mudança desta realidade. Dentre várias ações em andamento a educação para a sustentabilidade acena com perspectivas reais e concretas. Esta pesquisa se insere no âmbito da investigação desta educação, e teve como objetivo identificar a espiritualidade e qual sua tipologia através da analise sob a perspectiva do paradigma ecológico e da espiritualidade, no curso Eco design em sustentabilidade do Programa Gaia Education realizado na Ecovila Terra Una/MG. O programa foi criado em 2005 pela Rede de Educadores Globais de Ecovilas para uma Terra Sustentável, passando a ser considerado complemento padrão pela ONU para a Década de Educação para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável 2005\2014. Baseado na Pedagogia de Aprendizagem Vivencial, o Programa Gaia Education tem a finalidade de fornecer instrumentos\técnicas que possibilitem aos seus alunos aprender diferentes práticas sustentáveis, baseadas nas experiências comunitárias e nas relações que elas estabelecem com o ambiente, sendo rural ou urbano. A metodologia adotada consistiu na pesquisa bibliográfica de fontes primarias e secundárias dos materiais do curso e de obras de referencia na área da sustentabilidade e espiritualidade, no âmbito das Ciências da religião, da teologia, da educação, das ciências ambientais e sociais. Realizou-se a análise sistemática e hermenêutica dos discursos. Ao final da pesquisa, constatou-se a identificação da espiritualidade presente no curso, assim como outras perspectivas de praticas espirituais e de dialogo como referência para o desenvolvimento da educação para a sustentabilidade de forma integral.                 <text>Resprouting is one of the main regeneration strategies in woody plants that allows post-fire vegetation recovery. However, the stress produced by fires promotes the biosynthesis of compounds which could affect the post-fire resprouting, and this approach has been poorly evaluated in fire ecology. In this study, we evaluate the changes in the concentration of chlorophylls, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, and tannins as a result of experimental burns (EB). We asked whether this biochemical response to fire could influence the resprouting responses. For that, we conducted three EB in three successive years in three different experimental units. Specifically, we selected six woody species from the Chaco region, and we analyzed their biochemical responses to EB. We used spectrophotometric methods to quantify the metabolites, and morphological variables to estimate the resprouting responses. Applying a multivariate analysis, we built an index to estimate the biochemical response to fire to EB per each species. Our results demonstrate that photosynthetic pigment concentration did not vary significantly in burnt plants that resprout in response to EB, whereas concentrations of secondary metabolites (phenolic compounds and tannins) increased up to two years after EB. Our main results showed that phenolic compounds could play a significant role in the resprouting responses, while photosynthetic pigments seem to have a minor but significant role. Such results were reaffirmed by the significant correlation between the biochemical response to fire and both resprouting capacity and resprouting growth. However, we observed that the biochemical response effect on resprouting was lower in tree species than in shrubby species. Our study contributes to the understanding of the biochemical responses that are involved in the post-fire vegetation recovery.</text>

                <text>De manera general, la ciencia aporta con información fundamental, que debería ser usada racionalmente para la toma de decisiones en el mundo. En su forma más imparcial y noble, contribuye a acrecentar el conocimiento humano y mejorar nuestras vidas como sociedad. Ahí radica su importancia, y es en parte la razón de porque, a pesar de los cambios constantes en el mundo, la investigación y producción científica reciben mucho impulso, especialmente en los países industrializados. Como dato, un estudio de la United States National Science Foundation (NSF), da cuenta, de que finalizado el 2017 y por primera vez, China ha superado a Estados Unidos en cantidad de artículos científicos publicados. No obstante éste último, continúa siendo líder y referente en investigación, que atrae a investigadores de todo el mundo y traduce la ciencia en importante propiedad intelectual. (Tollefson 2018)Más específica, en los campos de la producción agropecuaria y la conservación de los recursos naturales, la ciencia ha aportado información esencial a ambos, pero por mucho tiempo, estos aportes se mantuvieron separados uno del otro. Es decir, que no se consideró adecuadamente en su momento, la importante relación entre producir y conservar. Por ejemplo, para combatir el hambre y la inseguridad alimentaria, se desarrollaron sistemas intensivos de producción de alimentos, pero que resultan agresivos con el medio ambiente. Por el otro lado, los variados enfoques e iniciativas de conservación, tropiezan y se enfrentan cada vez más contra las actividades y lo intereses humanos. Bajo este panorama, las corrientes actuales de investigación que abarcan producción y conservación, son vitales para enfrentar los retos futuros que tenemos como humanidad.Este campo es bastante complejo, pues los procesos y fenómenos están cruzados con varios intereses y variables. A manera de ejemplo, el incremento de la deforestación a nivel mundial, puede dar lugar a consecuencias serias sobre la provisión de servicios ecosistémicos. Según la FAO (2016), la cobertura de bosque en el planeta disminuyó de 31.6% a 30.6% en el periodo 1990 a 2015. Esto representa alrededor de 4000 millones de hectáreas deforestadas, que cambiaron de cobertura y uso de suelo. A nivel global, está demostrado que ese cambio se dirige especialmente hacia tierras agrícolas con fines comerciales o de subsistencia (Lobovikov et al. 2010, Angelsen et al. 2013). Esto supone a futuro, y para todos, un riesgo a la sostenibilidad de los servicios ambientales que proveen los bosques (FAO 2012), y de los que todos dependemos y nos beneficiamos. Súmese que a futuro, se prevé que la deforestación ocasionada por el cambio de cobertura y uso de suelo a fines productivos, continuará presionando la sostenibilidad de los servicios ecosistémicos (FAO 2006).A pesar de que existe más información en estas áreas, aún no tienen impacto en la correcta toma de decisiones, sin contar con la voluntad política obviamente. En muchos casos, como en varias partes de Latinoamérica, la investigación en estos campos es aún insuficiente, y es limitada muchas veces por los complejos sistemas sociales (Chaffin et al. 2016). Como resultado, no se plasma de manera efectiva en políticas y acciones concretas a nivel país. Éste panorama se complica en la actualidad, considerando los efectos del cambio climático, y  cuando caemos en cuenta que muchos países de la región y financiadores de investigación, han disminuido sutilmente los recursos para estos campos, debido entre otros a la contracción económica internacional.A pesar de la enorme complejidad que existe en estos campos de la investigación, muchos investigadores, practicantes e innovadores relacionados, continúan en el reto de aportar a la sociedad por medio de la ciencia. Muchos lideran exitosamente, nuevas investigaciones, propuestas e iniciativas, que no separan la producción de la conservación. Esto propicia el necesario surgimiento de nuevas configuraciones y paradigmas en la producción de alimentos y la gobernanza del medio ambiente.Sea este año muy positivo, para las y los que estamos aportando a la ciencia, especialmente aquellas personas identificadas, con el reto de producir y conservar. Y que Journal of the Selva Andina Research Society, continúe creciendo firmemente como plataforma para la investigación.</text>

Sediscuten las incertidumbres asociadas a la inserción de genes extra-ños en organismos, facilitando ejemplos de efectos imprevistos eindeseados y de inestabilidades de los organismos así fabricados artificialmente.Luego se aportan datos tanto de agencias oficiales comode la literatura existente, que cuestionan la seriedad y fiabilidad delos análisis de riesgo sobre la inocuidad para la salud de estos organismosy se discute la falta casi absoluta de estudios científicos queanalicen la seguridad/peligrosidad de los alimentos transgénicospara la salud. Dadas todas estas incógnitas, se tienen que tomar encuenta otros factores, en particular la contaminación genética de loscultivos no modificados genéticamente, que empieza a ser generalizadaen algunas partes del mundo. No poder dar marcha atrás en casode problemas resulta irresponsable. Otros elementos importantes sonlos impactos sobre el medio ambiente (como la aparición de resistenciasen insectos, la pérdida de biodiversidad, el aumento de losproductos químicos empleados) con repercusiones indirectas sobrela salud y/o la futura producción de alimentos. Por último se introducenelementos de discusión sobre la seguridad alimentaria en términosde disponibilidad de alimentos y soberanía alimentaria, dado queel mercado de las semillas transgénicas y los agroquímicos asociadosestá copado por cinco grandes empresas transnacionales. La conclusión hace un análisis de la contribución de la agricultura biotecnoló-gica a la sostenibilidad.</text>

                <text>Este artículo se propone reflexionar sobre los resultados preliminares de investigación en torno al conflicto generado por la urbanización de la ribera sur del Gran Buenos Aires con el proyecto Nueva Costa del Plata (NCP). Analizaré las formas de la producción social de este espacio en el marco de las diferencias entre diversos actores por el destino del lugar. Lo haré desde la teoría espacial Lefebvriana, presentando asimismo los límites encontrados en la espacialización para el análisis de la resistencia vecinal que se opone a dicha transformación. El proceso de territorialización brindará un aporte suplementario para mostrar otros aspectos de esta particular lucha que ya lleva una década. El abordaje combina la geografía, la ecología política y la antropología a fin de mostrar una perspectiva diferente de conflicto en la gestión de las últimas áreas de valor ecológico de la ciudad.</text>

                <text>INNER NATURE EXHIBITION is a non-profit cultural project that aims to propose a reflection on the eco-social crisis. It is a travelling video art show that interacts with other proposals organized by the different cultural centers that host it at national and international level, generating spaces of encounter, exchange and reflection. In its third edition, the project tries new formulas for relating local contexts to global problems. We urgently need cultural tools to make the ecological crisis visible and to deconstruct the dominant discourses that legitimize an unsustainable system. Issues such as peak-oil or climate change indicate the possibility of an unprecedented eco-social collapse. That is why it is essential to build alternative ways of working in the local contexts to rethink our sense of the common and to simultaneously cooperate with international institutions that can seek answers to shared problems. In this context, we explore the potential of video art as a tool to create awareness, while maintaining a critical viewpoint on the most technophilic discourses that tend to forget that technologies too are dependent on ecosystems. The experience of INNER NATURE EXHIBITION serves as a case study to analyze in practice the main contributions and possible limits of this type of cultural initiatives.</text>
