<text>Corn cultivation in the Northeast region of Brazil is characterized by a great diversity of production systems, ranging from large companies (modern cultivars and relatively high planting densities) to small farms (family agriculture, traditional cultivars, and low planting densities). In the present work we evaluated the effects of planting density (30; 40; 50; 60; or 70 thousand plants ha-1 - TPH) on green ear yield of cultivars Centralmex (traditional) and AG 510 (hybrid). Different densities were achieved by maintaining 1.0 m between rows and varying the spacing between pits, within the row. Cultivars and planting densities were combined in a factorial scheme, arranged in a random block design with four replicates and four 6 m long row plots. The number of green ears increased with density in both cultivars, but in a significantly more intense pace in cultivar AG 510. Cultivar AG-510 (14.9 t ha-1 on average, maximum yield at 58 TPH) yielded significantly more unhusked green ears than cultivar Centralmex (13.6 t ha-1 on average, maximum at 61 TPH). Marketable green ear yield increased with density in both cultivars, but more intensively in cultivar AG 510, which significantly out yielded cultivar Centralmex from 43 TPH ahead. The difference between cultivars at the planting density of 70 TPH was 14.4 t ha-1. There was no response of cultivar Centralmex in number of marketable husked green ears, while cultivar AG 510 increased yield with planting density. The difference between both cultivars started being significant at 38 TPH. Husked ear length decreased linearly and similarly in both cultivars as planting density increased. Planting density did not influence plant and ear height, and cultivar Centralmex was superior in both characteristics at all planting densities. There was no effect of cultivars on stalk diameter and root system biomass.

To investigate the spatial distribution of Aedes albopictus population to provide input for developing sampling plans and supporting decision making on the control of this vector in field sampling. METHODS: A study was carried out in an urban area that has a vestige of primary vegetation, 20 km away from Dourados, Midwestern Brazil. Ten samplings were conducted between January 28, 2003 and April 9, 2003, using ovitraps which were monitored once a week, and distributed in a fixed sample area with 10 collection points for each sampling 300 m away from each other. Aggregation indexes were calculated and adjusted to the following theoretical frequency distribution: negative binomial, positive binomial and Poisson's. RESULTS: The sample variance was higher than the sampling mean, resulting in mean-variance indexes above the unit (32.066, 29.410, 14.444, 58.840, 56.042, 111.262, 70.140, 50.701, 93.221 and 8.481). Morisita's index was also statistically above the unit in all samplings (6.275, 3.947, 1.484, 3.725, 3.014, 5.450, 3.214, 3.886, 3.954 and 5.810), and K parameter ranged 0 and 8 (0.174, 0.309, 1.867, 0.332, 0.449, 0.203, 0.408, 0.314, 0.306 and 0.200). The Chi-square test for adjustment to the negative binomial distribution, positive binomial distribution, and Poisson's distribution was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Ae. albopictus population in the studied municipality showed an aggregated standard spatial distribution. This means that when individual vectors are found in a certain site, it is likely that other vectors can be found in the proximities, recommending insecticide spraying for vector control in this site without requiring sampling other sites in this same locality.</text>

<text> This paper is a short discussion about the category in the territory called Territorial Policies of the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA) and its devices to access land. The developmentalist fallacy that fills the MDA supports the proposals with a speech that presents the countryside as the locus of the delay, which 'underdeveloped' permeates the ideals of an environment where the disadvantages persist. The country would be designed according to this logic, as a space with disabilities who require incentives and planning so you can walk on the tracks of development. It is observable, however, that the investment of resources that accelerate the circulation, reproduction and accumulation of capital does not necessarily have contributed to changing the social frameworks in the municipalities that make up the interior of Ceará. Keywords: Development. Territory. Public Policy. Family Farming. Geography. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) present a great biotechnological potential, but to be successfully applied, it is necessary to know how these organisms react to agricultural practices. This research aimed to verify the effects of two management systems, conventional and organic, applied to citrus orchards and nurseries, on AMF communities, compared to soil from a native forest. A total of 36 soil samples were collected, and their chemical characteristics and AMF species occurrence were evaluated. Management systems did not change AMF communities, even with the soil chemical alterations due to organic fertilizers amendment, which increased pH, organic matter, calcium and magnesium values. However, communities were affected by the time of implementation and regions where orchards and the nurseries were located. These differences are probably due to the stability of older orchards and the evolutionary characteristics of each local.</text>

<text>Abstract Background Analyses of blood biomarkers involved in the host response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) viral infection can reveal distinct biological pathways and inform development and testing of therapeutics for COVID-19. Our objective was to evaluate host endothelial, epithelial and inflammatory biomarkers in COVID-19. Methods We prospectively enrolled 171 ICU patients, including 78 (46%) patients positive and 93 (54%) negative for SARS-CoV-2 infection from April to September, 2020. We compared 22 plasma biomarkers in blood collected within 24 h and 3 days after ICU admission. Results In critically ill COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients, the most common ICU admission diagnoses were respiratory failure or pneumonia, followed by sepsis and other diagnoses. Similar proportions of patients in both groups received invasive mechanical ventilation at the time of study enrollment. COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients had similar rates of acute respiratory distress syndrome, severe acute kidney injury, and in-hospital mortality. While concentrations of interleukin 6 and 8 were not different between groups, markers of epithelial cell injury (soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products, sRAGE) and acute phase proteins (serum amyloid A, SAA) were significantly higher in COVID-19 compared to non-COVID-19, adjusting for demographics and APACHE III scores. In contrast, angiopoietin 2:1 (Ang-2:1 ratio) and soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (sTNFR-1), markers of endothelial dysfunction and inflammation, were significantly lower in COVID-19 (p </text>
