The use of biological reactor effluent in fertigation and use of dry swine waste as a component of the substrate, would lower the cost of production and prevent discarding residues in the environment. Based on that, the objective of this research was to evaluate both yield and quality of pepper fruits, adopting the factorial scheme 4 x 3 in randomized blocks, with 4 substrates (S1, S2, S3 e S4) and 3 nutrient solutions: mineral nutrient solution (SN1), nutrient solution as based on biological reactor effluent boosted with mineral fertilizers (SN2) and nutrient solution based on biological reactor effluent (SN3). The different mixtures that yielded different substrate could be recommended for both fruit and quality production perspectives, except substrate 1 (S1), which revealed inferior quality of fruits. The use of SN1 permitted greater weight of the fruits, thickness of the pulp and productivity. Partial substitution of fertilizers by biodigestor effluent of swine waste (SN2) was not sufficient to promote productivity equivalent to 100% mineral nutrient solution, however it reached mean index of productivity with standards of quality of fruits equivalent to the mineral solution (SN1). This supports the conclusion that the use of the biological reactor effluent would be an alternative in potential to reduce the cost of production of pepper crop and to prevent the discarding of this material, still rich in nutrients, into the environment.</text>

The efficient use of water and the environmental diversity are crucial to the balance and sustainability of the organic production system of tomatoes. The present study aimed to evaluate the organic production of tomato cultivated as a single crop and in consortium with coriander, under sprinkler and drip irrigation. The experiment was carried out at an organic production area on the Federal District of Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks with treatments arranged in a 2 x 2 factorial (two irrigation systems x two cropping schemes). No significant interaction between the both factors occurred, and there was no significant effect of the cropping scheme over the evaluated variables. Although the crop cycle has been reduced when tomato was drip irrigated, the fruit yield was not affected by the irrigation systems. The larger reduction in the stand of plants observed under sprinkler irrigation has been compensated by an increase in the number of fruits per plant, without a change on the fruit mass. The smaller volume of soil explored by the tomato roots associated with the higher incidence of South American tomato pinworm (Tuta absoluta) and mainly powdery mildew (Leveillula taurica) may have limited the yield of drip irrigated tomato. The fruit decay rate on sprinkle irrigated plants was twice the rate found on the drip irrigated system.</text>

The study aimed to evaluate the effects of irrigation water with increasing salinity levels and the application frequency of bio-fertilizer on the production of yellow passion fruit and soil resistance to penetration (RSP). The experiment was conducted in the municipality of Remígio (PB), Brazil, with treatments distributed in a 5 x 4 factorial design corresponding to levels of electrical conductivity (EC) of the irrigation water of 0.5; 1.5; 2.5; 3.5 and 4.5 dS m-1 and to four frequencies of the application of bovine bio-fertilizer: no biofertilizer (WB); with the application of bovine bio-fertilizer one week before transplanting (1 WBT); with an application every 90 days after transplanting (90 DAT); and bovine bio-fertilizer applied one week before and every 90 days after transplanting (1 WBT + 90 DAT). The increase of the EC of the water compromised the productive capacity of the passion fruit in terms of fruit number and yield per plant. The largest losses were recorded in plants irrigated with water with an EC equal to or greater than 2.5 dS m-1. The highest frequency of organic raw material application promoted an increase in production per plant. The values of the RSP to a depth of 40 cm, although increasing with the depth profile, were below 2000 kPa which does not impair root growth or the productivity of passion fruit. The application of saline water increased mechanical resistance, with lower values in soils where organic raw material was used (1 WBT + 90 DAT).</text>

With the objective of evaluating bell pepper fertilized with cattle manure with and without biofertilizer, an experiment was carried out from January to June 2004, in Quarts Psamment at UFPB, Areia, PB, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized block, with three replications in sub-divided plots. The plot was constituted by 32 and the sub-plot by 16 plants, spaced at 1.00 x 0.50 m. In the plots, six levels of cattle manure (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 t ha-1) were appraised, while in the sub-plots the forms of application of the biofertilizer (with and without application of biofertilizer in the soil and spraying on the leaves) and an additional treatment with mineral and organic fertilizer. In the absence of biofertilizer, 28 t ha-l estimated level of cattle manure was responsible for maximum yield of fruits per plant (389 g) and for commercial fruits (7.8 t ha-l), while biofertilizer used in spray application, the levels of 14.5 and 14.0 t ha-l of cattle manure, respectively, promoted maximum production of fruits per plant of 485 g and maximum productivity of commercial fruits of 9.6 t ha-1. The biofertilizer presence into the soil, promoted mean production of 410 g of fruits per plant and productivity of 8.3 t ha-1 of commercial fruits, in function of cattle manure. The combination cattle manure and biofertilizer in the leaves was the best organic fertilization form in the bell pepper, with additional of 1.8 and 1.3 t ha-1 in the productivity of commercial fruits, comparing with those obtained with cattle manure and biofetilizer used in the soil, respectively. There is no significance difference among organic treatments and conventional fertilization in the bell pepper productivity.</text>

An experiment was carried out during the period from December, 2005 to July, 2006, in municipality of Remígio, Paraíba, Brazil, in order to evaluate the effects of the biofertilizer 'supermagro' applied to soil in liquid form diluted in water in a ratio of 1:4, 30 days before and at intervals of 90 days after planting in absence and presence of potassium applied 60 days after planting and every 60 days subsequently until harvest on the production and mineral nutrition of yellow passion fruit plants (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg.) The treatments were distributed in randomized blocks using the factorial design 5 x 2 referring to biofertilizer levels: 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 L plant-1 in absence and presence of potassium at a K2O level of 20 g plant-1. The soil of the experimental area is a Neossoil. The fruits were harvested daily for evaluation of fruit number per plant, mass of fruit, individual production per plant and productivity. The plants in the initial fructification phase were adequately provided with N, K, S, B, and Zn, but they were deficient in P, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Mn. The mean mass of fruits was superior in plants of the treatments with biofertilizer and potassium, but the interaction biofertilizer 'supermagro' versus potassium did not influence plant productivity.</text>
