Además, las técnicas moleculares aportan métodos para la asignación de muestras a especies, poblaciones o individuos y para la identificación de sexo que, sobre todo cuando se combinan con materiales obtenidos de manera no invasiva, aportan herramientas eficientes para la conservación y la gestión de especies amenazadas. La presencia de la genética en conservación se ha visto impulsada en los últimos años por la aparición de nuevos marcadores moleculares, el uso de muestras degradadas o antiguas, y por significativos avances en los métodos de análisis de datos que aprovechan desarrollos teóricos importantes como la teoría del coalescente. En particular, el salto a una escala genómica promete salvar la tradicional limitación impuesta por la naturaleza predominantemente neutral de la variación explorada con los marcadores moleculares tradicionales y ofrecer acceso a la base genética de la variación adaptativa. No obstante, la superación de este y otros retos pendientes requerirá un mayor nivel de interacción entre enfoques empíricos, teóricos y experimentales, y entre las disciplinas de la genética y la ecología. La probada importancia de la variación genética para la persistencia de las especies y la sustancial contribución de las técnicas genéticas a la práctica conservacionista demandan una mayor presencia de la genética en la conservación de especies, tanto en sus aspectos normativos como de gestión. Camacho Description An account of the resource La estructura trófica de las comunidades planctónicas de los lagos antárticos se caracteriza por su sencillez, estando funcionalmente dominada por microorganismos. En estas cadenas tróficas el zooplancton, cuando está presente, ocupa generalmente la posición de consumidores superiores. Estos sistemas constituyen un marco muy adecuado en el que evaluar ciertos aspectos de la ecología trófica y funcional. Nuestro propósito ha sido valorar la aplicabilidad de una serie de teorías ecológicas, relativas a las relaciones tróficas, al flujo de energía y a la relativa importancia de los factores tanto abióticos como bióticos como elementos que expliquen el funcionamiento de estos ecosistemas en zonas polares sometidas a un fuerte control físico. Estudios experimentales llevados a cabo en lagos de la Península Byers (Isla Livingston) por nuestro grupo de investigación han puesto de manifiesto como determinadas interacciones bióticas, como la depredación, podrían ejercer este efecto estructurador, a pesar del fuerte control físico que supuestamente aleja a estas comunidades del equilibrio. De nuestros resultados se deriva la existencia de cascadas tróficas en el plancton con potencialidad de extenderse en el bucle microbiano. Especialmente relevantes resultan aquellas interacciones derivadas de la actividad del zooplancton. En particular, la presencia de éstos parece inducir un incremento en las densidades de las poblaciones del picoplancton vía disminución de los organismos bacterívoros. De nuestras investigaciones se deriva también la capacidad de este zooplancton para acelerar el reciclado de nutrientes, la cual debe contribuir en parte a sostener la productividad del sistema. Estas observaciones han permitido bosquejar un modelo conceptual del funcionamiento de la red trófica pelágica. El aumento progresivo de las temperaturas en áreas polares podría acrecentar las entradas de energía y activar el ciclo de nutrientes, siendo una de las posibles consecuencias, la intensificación de este tipo de interacciones biológicas. In this work, climatic variables are linked to the temporal evolution of the water status of the vine Methods and Results: Within-season time-series of predawn leaf water potential from previous studies across 8 seasons in the south of France were collated. Meteorological data were also collected at each site. A stepwise linear regression model was developed to predict the mean predawn leaf water potential of a vineyard block at a given date from climatic variables and time. Variables selected were growing degree days, short-term humidity and temperature effects. Application of the stepwise model to an independent data set, collected at the other two research sites, produced a linear response but required a local calibration at each site. Conclusion: The analysis demonstrated that climatic variables can be used for predicting the temporal evolution of vine water stress in non-irrigated vineyards. Significance and impact of study: The modelling can assist with within-season crop management and future vineyard planning/development in non-irrigated regions. In irrigated vineyards the application is more restricted but it may be used to identify when to start irrigation.
