Abstract TI identified and determined some characteristics of green spaces in the city of Medellin (Figure 1) and its prospects for urban ecological networks set up under the principles of landscape ecology. Based on digital maps and aerial photographs, there was identified by GIS green spaces greater than or equal to 400 m2, which are qualified in fragments and corridors, and later in fragments-nodes, where in general the conditions exist for the habitat and shelter for different species of fauna and flora, and links, corridors that enable connectivity between nodes. By evaluating spatial attributes were identified and assessed potential local ecological networks, which are a planning tool that helps implement a network of spaces with floors dedicated to the recovery of natural support, the ecological functioning and the connection of the townscape with the rural landscape</text>

Abstract: The importance of Urban Planning’s role to safeguard green areas and to build up green chains has gradually increased. The latter played not only an ecological function into the city’s environment requalification, but it becomes also an occasion to find social space. The present research thesis investigated the concept of the green chain, the declination and implementation modes that this topic had in the local planning instrument and, more specifically, in which way the urban planning is working to defining and managing the reticular continuity. Proceeding from the terminology analysis of network and system concepts, the research intended to identify and to characterize the current use of these terms into the planning legislation, both into the national and regional levels, and moreover to study the implementation that the network concept get into the planning instrument. Two European situations were explored, Italian and Spanish: a comparative and descriptive methodology was used to analyze the different interpretations and use of the green chainsterms into the national and local scale (Ferraraand Santiago de Compostela towns). The different use of urban planning terms in the theoretical and practical evolution of green chain concept was described from model to paradigm and still to process. The investigation aimed to understanding the different paths on which the planning practices are moving to create and manage network systems of green and urban spaces.</text>
