La calidad de la leche se ve afectada por la mastitis y por las prácticas empleadas durante y después del ordeño. El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar las prácticas de ordeño y la calidad higiénica y nutricional de la leche producida en Granada, Antioquia. Mediante muestreo no probabilístico, se seleccionaron diez fincas productoras, pertenecientes a ASOGRAN. La evaluación de las prácticas de ordeño fue realizada mediante observación directa y, la detección de mastitis, se hizo en cada finca, utilizando la Prueba California (CMT). Al finalizar el ordeño, se tomaron dos muestras de leche, con un intervalo de 60 días, efectuándose análisis de unidades formadoras de colonia (UFC), conteo células somáticas (CCS), porcentajes de proteína, grasa y sólidos totales; durante este intervalo, se capacitaron los productores en buenas prácticas de ordeño (BPO). Los análisis estadísticos, se realizaron mediante la prueba Wilcoxon. Antes de la capacitación, se registró incumplimiento en las actividades de las BPO; se hallaron diferencias significativas para las pruebas de mastitis y de UFC antes y después de la capacitación; además, el 24% de las glándulas mamarias, se percibían afectadas por mastitis subclínica. En la calidad higiénica de la leche, se encontró UFC promedio de 6x10(5) y 3x10(5), respectivamente. El CCS no presentó diferencias significativas, reportando valores promedio de 630.000 y 750.000, respectivamente. La calidad nutricional reportó porcentajes de grasa, proteína y sólidos totales, superiores a los exigidos en la legislación colombiana. Los hallazgos indican la importancia de la aplicación de las BPO sobre la calidad de la leche.

We evaluated the effect of the application of nutrients on the growth of Baccharis macrantha and Viburnum triphyllum, which were planted in a pasture located on the edge of an oak forest in Arcabuco (Boyacá, Colombia). The following treatments were established in plots: B. macrantha with nutrients, B. macrantha without nutrients, V. triphyllum with nutrients, and V. triphyllum without nutrients, each one with three repetitions. The phytosanitary condition, greatest and least diameter of the plant canopy, and height were measured for each planted individual. Analysis of planted species survival using the Kaplan-Meier method was performed and rates of relative growth (RGR) of height and coverage were calculated for all individuals, with which ANOVAs were performed to assess differences between treatments. The probability of survival of planted species decreased greatly over time. Significant differences between treatments were found for height and cover. According to field observation and statistical analysis, the application of nutrients considerably improved the growth in height and cover of B. macrantha, a result useful for the implementation of ecological restoration activities in pastures.

El objetivo de este trabajo es situar la ética del cuidado en contexto de las éticas de la responsabilidad. Para ello analizamos la orientación hacia el cuidado en las éticas de la responsabilidad mostrando la transición de una responsabilidad limitada por el cálculo consecuencialista en la actividad política, a una responsabilidad integral exigida por la preservación de la naturaleza ante los desafíos de la ciencia y la técnica. Interpretamos la aportación de Carol Gilligan en términos de «provocación » a la ética contemporánea para que el cuidado no sea únicamente una categoría sentimental o afectiva sino una categoría con la que reconstruir reflexivamente la justicia social. Esta interpretación evita que la orientación al cuidado se reduzca a una introducción del género en la ética de la justicia y minusvalore el papel de la fundamentación en detrimento del activismo. Este fortalecimiento el cuidado de la responsabilidad resulta fecundo si leemos a Gilligan desde Hans Jonas. Se construye así una responsabilidad sustantiva e integral que levanta la «voz» y se convierte en grito para romper con el descuido, la indiferencia y la insensibilidad.

Modeling ecological niches of species as a means to predict geographic distributions is a growing field that has been applied to numerous challenges of importance in ecology, systematics, and human well-being. The increasing availability and variety of such predictive algorithms requires testing their performance. In this study, we compare 6 such algorithms (Maxent, BioMapper, DOMAIN, FloraMap, the genetic algorithm GARP, and weights of evidence) as regards their ability to predict the geographic distributions of 10 species of Mexican birds for which ample distributional data are available. The results of this study nevertheless led to reflections on how model quality should be evaluated.La predicción de las distribuciones geográficas de las especies obtenida mediante el modelado de sus nichos ecológicos, representa una línea de investigación en expansión, la cual ha sido aplicada en múltiples áreas de conocimiento tales como ecología, sistemática y salud pública. La creciente disponibilidad y variedad de tales métodos y algoritmos de predicción determina su evaluación como necesaria. En este estudio, comparamos 6 algoritmos (Maxent, BioMapper, Domain, FloraMap, GARP, Weights of Evidence) con respecto a su habilidad para predecir las distribuciones geográficas de 10 especies de aves de México, para las cuales se cuenta con suficientes datos distribucionales. No obstante, los resultados de nuestro estudio sugieren la necesidad de elaborar nuevos criterios para la evaluación de modelos.

La seguridad alimentaria y nutricional propende por la garantía de alimentos de calidad para todos. La carencia de inocuidad puede ser la causa de enfermedades transmitidas por alimentos que afectan no sólo la calidad de vida sino el estado nutricional de los consumidores. El estudio de los factores medioambientales que determinan la inocuidad de las hortalizas que se cultivan y se consumen en el municipio de Tenjo, Cundinamarca, se constituye en el objeto del presente trabajo. El trabajo se desarrolló en tres fases: inicialmente se efectuó una revisión, análisis y búsqueda documental sistemática en bases de datos y fuentes documentales impresas; seguidamente se realizó el trabajo de campo dividido en dos tipos de actividades: visitas a cultivos tradicionales y orgánicos de hortalizas en el municipio para poder establecer diferencias entre ellos, y encuestas a los consumidores de las mismas en Tenjo y Bogotá para establecer patrones de compra y consumo de éstos alimentos. Por último, se realizó el análisis de los datos obtenidos y se identificaron los peligros y puntos críticos de control para proponer los correctivos necesarios. Se encontró que los principales factores medioambientes que determinan las condiciones de inocuidad de las hortalizas de Tenjo son el agua que se utiliza en el riego, las sustancias que se emplean para fertilizar el suelo y controlar las plagas, los empaques o embalajes para la distribución y venta del producto y finalmente, la manipulación de las hortalizas por parte de los consumidores.

Entre finales del siglo XX y comienzos del XXI surge un corpus significativo de propuestas narrativas utópicas y urbanas donde la preservación de la naturaleza forma parte de una agenda “verde” específica. Estos imaginarios utópicos consisten en apuestas utópicas para sociedades privadas, en correspondencia con las políticas económicas neoliberales que se han implementado en América Latina desde finales de los años 80. De esta forma, el presente artículo aborda la reconfiguración de estos imaginarios espaciales, y el contraste drástico que estos nuevos modelos urbanos y utópicos representan tanto en la literatura como en el cine, indagando, específicamente, el rol que ocupan la naturaleza y las preocupaciones medioambientales. Tomando como referentes literarios y cinematográficos el cuento “No Retiro da Figueira” (1984) del brasileño Moacyr Scliar, la novela La viuda de los jueves (2005) de la argentina Claudia Piñeiro, y la película La zona (2007) del mexicano Rodrigo Plá, se analizará cómo una retórica urbana y medioambiental puede ser apropiada por una discursividad mercantilista, contrastando, a su vez, con la representación de las ciudades abiertas e irrestrictas que conviven con aquellas, y en las que distopía y ecocidio conforman dos de sus rasgos más distintivos. La cadena de comercialización porcina está compuesta por diferentes actores, entre ellos destacamos al productor primario, la agroindustria, la distribución minorista y por último el consumidor final. Todos ellos conforman el proceso comercial desde la producción primaria al consumidor. Según como sean las interrelaciones que se pueden dar entre los agentes involucrados, se identifican diferentes canales de comercialización. El objetivo del trabajo es determinar el Margen Bruto de Comercialización en la cadena porcina a través de un canal estructurado, identificar la participación directa de cada actor, comparar las variaciones producidas durante un año en el MBC y su composición y analizar la participación de cada actor en función de distintos cortes. El MBC permitió establecer que la cadena porcina en Santa Rosa arroja una asimetría muy marcada por parte de las carnicerías, siendo esta quienes se apropian del mayor excedente que genera la cadena. De los actores intervinientes (Productores, Agroindustria y Distribución Minorista) es la distribución quien se apropia del mayor excedente que genera la cadena comercial. Al comparar las variaciones producidas al cabo de un año en el MBC (Jul. 13- Jul. 14), pese a que es el sector minorista quien sigue apropiándose de la mayor partición, se determina una leve mejora en la eficiencia de la cadena. En lo que respecta al analisis en función de diferentes cortes, en cuanto mayor sea el precio de venta de los cortes frescos, mayor será la participación de las carnicerías en el MBC.

Imazapir es un herbicida de amplio espectro de control utilizado en maíz (Zea maíz L.) y girasol (Helianthus annus L.) Clearfield (CL). Debido a que posee acción residual en el suelo es de gran importancia determinar su persistencia. El objetivo de este trabajo, fue determinar la persistencia fitotóxica de dos dosis de Imazapir aplicado en un cultivo de girasol Clearfield, a través de su efecto fitotóxico sobre cultivos de invierno y de verano potencialmente sucesores en la rotación, en dos sistemas de labranza. El ensayo se realizó en un suelo Haplustol Entico de textura franca siguiendo un diseño experimental en bloques completos aleatorizados con tres repeticiones y tres submuestras. Los tratamientos consistieron en la aplicación de Imazapir en dosis de 333 cm3 .ha-1 (x) y 666 cm3 .ha1 (2x) incluyéndose un testigo sin tratar. Luego de la cosecha del girasol, se efectuó la siembra de avena (Avena sativa L.) para trabajar sobre ella distintos indicadores de residualidad del herbicida. Por otro lado, de los mismos ensayos se realizaron los muestreos de suelo (0-8 cm) con el objetivo de la confección de bioensayos en invernáculo con trigo (Triticum aestivum L.), avena, sorgo (Sorghum bicolor L.), girasol y maíz no tolerantes a imidazolinonas. Se evaluó peso seco de la parte aérea y de raíces, y longitud de raíces. Los resultados fueron analizados a través del procedimiento Proc Mixed de SAS donde se aplicó Anova y test de diferencia de medias. Los biotest realizados mostraron resultados poco claros. Aún así, se pudo apreciar que la especie más sensible a los residuos del herbicida fue el trigo. Los ensayos de campo debieron desestimarse dada la intensa sequía durante el año 2009 que provocó la muerte del cultivo.

La creciente expansión de la conciencia ambiental en los últimos treinta años del siglo XX ha influido en el campo de la filosofía, especialmente en la filosofía práctica, a través del cuestionamiento de creencias, valores y metas de la civilización industrial.La emergencia del campo de la ecofilosofía estuvo acompañada por la incidencia de diferentes disciplinas científicas tales como: ecología, biología, economía, antropología o sociología. Pero junto a estas influencias, la filosofía ambiental se mantiene fuertemente normativa, como un tipo de sabiduría. Implica prescripciones, no sólo descripciones y predicciones científicas.La consideración del término biodiversidad como un concepto ético denso habla de esa integración entre lo descriptivo y lo normativo.

Objetivo: Describir el origen de la crisis alimentaria sufrida entre 1998 al 2002 por los pobladores del municipio de Acandí - Chocó y sus repercusiones en la seguridad alimentaria. Metodología: Estudio de tipo etnográfico. Para la recolección de la información se utilizó la entrevista a profundidad a informantes claves, la observación participante, el diario de campo y la conversación informal con los pobladores. Resultados: Se pudo constatar que cuando los pobladores de Acandí se enfrentaron al desabastecimiento temporal de alimentos por condiciones ambientales y por uso inadecuado de los recursos naturales, tuvieron cierta capacidad de desarrollar estrategias para sortear la situación. En cambio para enfrentar el desabastecimiento por la violencia, no encontraron estrategias para impedir la crisis alimentaria. La situación de violencia en el municipio de Acandí, provocó crisis económica y alimentaria, la cual no alcanzó las dimensiones de hambruna, pero si se constituyó en una problemática alimentaria, social y económica. Durante el tiempo que duró tal crisis, la población tuvo que hacer frente a dichas problemáticas con escaso apoyo estatal y desarrolló algunas estrategias para sobrevivir y reducir la incertidumbre alimentaria. Conclusiones: La población de Acandí desarrolló estrategias adaptativas a las problemáticas propias de sus dinámicas socioeconómicas, culturales y ambientales, en cambio para enfrentar los conflictos armados quedaron inermes, situación que se prolongó en el periodo de agudización del conflicto.
