Los cambios climáticos que se registran en las ciudades asocian los efectos del calentamiento global con la formación de islas de calor, causadas por la urbanización y que se relacionan directamente con la composición socioeconómica de los diversos barrios que las componen, que en el caso de Chile, se manifiestan como mosaicos de paisajes diferentes o barrios, que representan profundas desigualdades sociales. Los barrios presentan diferentes zonas climáticas termales, que son el producto de sus variados usos y coberturas de suelos, densidades y diseños de las viviendas y coberturas vegetales. Las áreas más cálidas se observan en las construcciones de edificios sociales de alta densidad y carentes de vegetación, que se ubican en los municipios en que predominan los sectores de menores niveles socioeconómicos, mientras que las más frías lo hacen en los barrios donde residen los sectores sociales de más altos ingresos, caracterizados por predominio de las áreas verdes y bajas densidades residenciales. La planificación urbana a escala de barrio debería implementar estrategias y acciones explícitas de mitigación y adaptación de los espacios urbanos ante los procesos de cambio climático.

O presente artigo visa fomentar discussões sobre as relações de poder no campo da administração, em especial, na gestão dos processos sucessórios no contexto da agricultura familiar. Várias são as circunstâncias e as formas de subjetivar as pessoas, sobretudo as mulheres na condição apenas de paciente e não agente de transformação e mudanças. Ao contemplar a agricultura familiar em um assentamento, pode-se presenciar como tem sido comum o feminino à frente das atividades operacionais, antes realizadas apenas pelo masculino, além de suas responsabilidades historicamente conceituadas de provedora do lar e da família. Dessa forma, esta pesquisa objetiva evidenciar as relações de poder no que concernem à sucessão da gestão na agricultura familiar no Assentamento Santa Olga, localizado no Município de Nova Andradina – MS, polarizando a transição de poderes, resistências e responsabilidades da mulher no campo. Apresenta, como método de pesquisa, um estudo qualitativo, por meio de questionário e entrevistas. Os principais resultados apontam a mulher como propulsora de muitas famílias, e, ainda, produtora, mãe e empresária rural.

Este texto apresenta a análise das relações estabelecidas entre organizações de agricultura familiar e políticas públicas de desenvolvimento rural a partir de uma pesquisa realizada no município de Espera Feliz (MG). Constatou-se que inserção da 'agricultura familiar' na agenda governamental provocou mudanças na atuação do Sindicato dos Trabalhadores Rurais (STR) de Espera Feliz, com a adoção de dispositivos coletivos utilizados pelos agricultores como estratégia de ação coletiva. Esses dispositivos sofreram adaptações em suas regras de reciprocidade, passando a constituir estruturas institucionais formalizadas. A partir do acesso a determinadas políticas públicas, criaram-se aproximações com mediadores sociais com vistas a potencializar as estratégias desenvolvidas pelas organizações locais. Essa relação torna-se conflituosa na medida em que há divergência das orientações coletivas para o desenvolvimento. As relações estabelecidas e analisadas puderam ser caracterizadas como relações de complementaridade, de dominação normativa e de dificuldades e tensões. Nesse conjunto de relações, forjaram-se aproximações entre as organizações e mediadores sociais que atuam no município.

De acordo com a estratégia de seleção e o ganho que ela proporcionará, pode-se orientar, de maneira mais efetiva, um programa de melhoramento, bem como predizer o sucesso do esquema seletivo adotado. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a estabilidade das relações entre caracteres fenotípicos a partir de populações de cenoura cultivadas em sistemas de produção orgânico e convencional. Os experimentos foram conduzidos na Embrapa Hortaliças, DF. Duas populações de cenoura em fase de melhoramento e quatro cultivares comerciais foram plantados em novembro de 2007 no campo nos dois sistemas de produção, com delineamento de blocos casualizados com quatro repetições e parcelas de 1 m², com 100 plantas por parcela. Aos 90 dias após o semeio, 20 raízes por parcela foram colhidas e avaliadas para caracteres fenotípicos. Foi realizada análise de variância com determinação da interação entre tratamentos e sistemas de produção, correlações fenotípicas, análise de trilha e os ganhos com as seleções direta e correlacionada. Observouse que a quase totalidade das correlações medianas acima de 0,30, bem como os maiores efeitos diretos da análise de trilha e os maiores ganhos diretos e indiretos estimados, foi repetida nos dois sistemas, indicando que eles foram muito semelhantes na expressão da relação entre os caracteres. Assim, o melhoramento visando aos caracteres avaliados não precisa ser realizado em ambas as áreas de cultivos orgânico e convencional.

A produtividade em sistemas agrícolas de subsistência depende do nível de fertilidade natural do solo. Em condições de relevo forte ondulado, espera-se que a fertilidade do solo se modifique não apenas pelo tipo de uso mas, também, devido à sua posição no relevo. Para avaliar essas modificações, 260 amostras simples de solo (0-20 cm) da microbacia Vaca Brava, PB, representando combinações de três usos do solo, cinco posições no relevo e cinco classes texturais, foram analisadas quanto aos teores de P disponível, bases e acidez trocáveis. Ca e Mg compreenderam 75-80% dos cátions trocáveis, K e Na, de 10 a 15%, e H+Al, 10%; o valor de pH médio foi 5,5, enquanto P Mehlich-1 foi, em média, 3,8 mg kg-1 solo. Apesar dos efeitos significativos (p < 0,05) de uso, relevo e textura nos teores de alguns nutrientes, de forma geral a bacia pareceu relativamente uniforme. A principal diferença entre os usos decorreu da adição de esterco em áreas de roçado e capineira localizadas, preferencialmente, em áreas de pedimento e várzea. Ao redor de 80% das amostras apresentaram teores baixos de P enquanto 70% mostraram teores médios de K; entretanto, utilizando-se o índice K/(Ca+Mg)0,5 conclui-se que a quase totalidade das amostras se apresentou deficiente em K.Productivity in subsistence agricultural systems relies on natural soil fertility levels. Under strongly undulated relief conditions, it is expected that soil fertility will be determined not only by land use, but also by the position in the landscape. To study these relationships 260 single soil samples (0-20 cm) from the Vaca Brava watershed, Paraiba, representing combinations of three land uses, five positions in the landscape and five textures were analyzed for extractable P, exchangeable bases and soil acidity. Ca and Mg comprised 75-80% of exchangeable cations, K and Na between 10 and 15% and H+Al 10%. The average pH was 5.5, while extractable P (Mehlich-1) averaged 3.8 mg kg-1 soil. Although land use, relief and texture exerted significant effects (p < 0.05) upon certain nutrient concentrations, in a broad sense the watershed appeared relatively uniform. The main effect of land use resulted from the use of animal manure in areas of subsistence agriculture and fodder, which were preferentially located at the base of stopes and low lands positions. Approximately 80% of the samples were low in extractable P, while 70% had medium levels of extractable K. However, when available K was estimated by the K/(Ca+Mg)0,5 ratio, most samples were classified as low.

Esse artigo pretende fazer uma reflexão sobre relações Multi/interculturais no ambiente universitário em tempo de pandemia, com o olhar para os acadêmicos indígenas. Nesse sentido, o trabalho mostra a inserção dos indígenas na Educação Básica e no Ensino Superior para compreender a produção identitária nos espaços educacionais de fronteira na relação com alteridade, diferença e hospitalidade, bem como, discutir inclusão\exclusão dos indígenas face às dificuldades apresentadas com o advento da pandemia de Sars-CoV-2 no Brasil, tendo como suporte teórico os Estudos Culturais. Como estratégias metodológicas utiliza-se revisão de literatura e acompanhamento de estratégias do Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas das Populações Indígenas (NEPPI) da Universidade Católica Dom Bosco durante o período de pandemia para atender os alunos indígenas no calendário remoto. Refletir sobre alteridade, hospitalidade e diferença face ao contexto da pandemia se torna urgente para pensar os jogos de inclusão\exclusão dos povos indígenas na Educação.

Measures to prevent and contain the COVID-19 health crisis include population confinement, with the consequent isolation and interruption of their usual activities. The aim of the study is to analyse psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this, a cross-sectional observational study with a sample of 4180 people over the age of 18 during quarantine was developed. Variables considered were sociodemographic variables, physical symptoms, health conditions, COVID-19 contact history and psychological adjustment. The data were collected through a self-developed questionnaire and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Bivariate analyses were performed, including Chi-Squared test and Student’s T-test. Predictive ability was calculated through logistic regression. Results obtained showed a high level of psychological distress (72.0%), with a higher percentage in women and people of lower middle age. Statistically significant differences were found in the variable working situation (χ² = 63.139, p ≤ 0.001, V = 0.123) and living with children under the age of 16 (χ² = 7.393, p = 0.007, V = 0.042). The predictive variables with the highest weight were sex (OR = 1.952, 95% IC = (1.667, 2.286)), presence of symptoms (OR = 1.130, 95% CI = (1.074, 1.190)), and having had close contact with an individual with confirmed COVID-19 (OR = 1.241, 95% CI = (1.026, 1.500)). These results could enrich prevention interventions in public health and, in particular, in mental health in similar pandemic situations.

Crop fertilization greatly impacts food production. However, insufficient applications can lead to poor yields. On the other hand, an excessive application leads to soil and aquifers pollution. In this paper, field studies were carried out to determine the ranges of mineral concentration and the interaction of the ions in the soil solution (SS) and the petiole cellular extract (PCE) in several cultures established in the states of Guanajuato, Colima and Jalisco, Mexico. The hypothesis states that there is a causal relationship between the mineral composition of the soil solution (SS) and the minerals and total soluble solids (TSS) in petiole cellular extract (PCE). The following cultures were studied in this research: avocado, blueberry, broccoli, cauliflower, raspberry, strawberry, lettuce, cantaloupe, papaya, and pepper. For each culture, PCE samples and SS samples using a press to break tissue and ceramic tip lysimeters were obtained. The results were processed to obtain ranges of variation within 50% of the closest values to the median. Correlations between the several ion concentrations were analyzed using analysis of variance. The results showed values (mg L-1) of NO3- (40-620), PO43- (17-66), K+ (3-377), Ca2+ (27-582), Na+ (15.3-500), Mg2+ (10-53), Fe3+ (0.6‑1.8), and Zn2+ (2.8-7.4) in soil solution, which allowed obtaining values of NO3- (27-9225), K+ (820-9375), Ca2+ (1.0-650), Na+ (25-620) and TSS (2-13 °Brix) in petiole cellular extract of petiole. Statistically significant correlations were observed between the concentrations of the SS ions regarding the concentrations in PCE in crops suggesting a relationship between the plant nutritive assimilation and cations or anions present in soil solution. The conclusion derived from this study is that ionic concentration ranges registered in the SS and in the PCE provide an approximation to the ranges of nutritional sufficiency for the horticultural crops established in the summer-winter in western Mexico.

Background: Vitamin D has diverse and extensive effects on the immune system, including activating innate immunity and reducing the overactive adaptive immune response. A systematic review was performed to identify and synthesize the best available evidence on the association between vitamin D level and risk of COVID-19, adverse outcomes and possible benefits of supplementation in aged 60 years or over. Methods: A literature search was performed in PubMed© and Scopus© for all publications from inception published before 15 March 2021. Studies reporting data from aged patients on vitamin D use and COVID-19 were included. Basic science articles, editorials and correspondence were excluded. Publication year, study design and setting, characteristics of the study population were extracted. This study is registered with PROSPERO, under the number CRD42020223993. Results: In total, 707 studies were identified, of which 11 observational studies were included in the final review. Four studies compared vitamin D-supplemented COVID-19 patients to non-supplemented patients, and seven compared patients with vitamin D deficiency to patients without deficiency. In all four studies, patients with vitamin D supplementation had better rates of primary clinical outcomes (death, the severity of the disease, oxygen therapy requirement…). In studies comparing patients with vitamin D deficiency and patients without vitamin D deficiency, those without vitamin D deficiency had better primary clinical outcomes (death rate, the severity of the disease, oxygen therapy requirement, invasive mechanical ventilation need…). Conclusion: This systematic review seems to support an association between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of COVID-19 in aged people. In addition, vitamin D deficiency appears to expose these subjects to a greater risk of adverse outcomes. Because of its simplicity of administration, and the rarity of side effects, including vitamin D in preventive strategies for certain viral diseases, it appears to be an attractive option.

This article analyzes the relationships between the family farmer cooperatives of small farmers, producing biodiesel industries and government regulators from the perspective of Transaction Cost Economics (TCE). As a theoretical framework we sought literature on ECT, cooperatives, family farms and biodiesel. For exploratory feasibility of this article, literature and data collection research was conducted with biodiesel production units, research centers and universities. In the analysis and discussion of results from the union of the theoretical basis and data collection, the possibilities that the farmer has to negotiate its production were demonstrated, either directly with industry, or indirectly, through cooperatives. Finally, some concluding remarks around the theme, as well as suggestions for further research were made.
