Vito, Kevin Weng Description An account of the resource Multidisciplinary ocean observing activities provide critical ocean information to satisfy ever-changing socioeconomic needs and require coordinated implementation. The upper oxycline (transition between high and low oxygen waters) is fundamentally important for the ecosystem structure and can be a useful proxy for multiple observing objectives connected to eastern boundary systems (EBSs) that neighbor oxygen minimum zones (OMZs). The variability of the oxycline and its impact on the ecosystem (VOICE) initiative demonstrates how societal benefits drive the need for integration and optimization of biological, biogeochemical, and physical components of regional ocean observing related to EBS. In liaison with the Global Ocean Oxygen Network, VOICE creates a roadmap toward observation-model syntheses for a comprehensive understanding of selected oxycline-dependent objectives. Local to global effects, such as habitat compression or deoxygenation trends, prompt for comprehensive observing of the oxycline on various space and time scales, and for an increased awareness of its impact on ecosystem services. Building on the Framework for Ocean Observing (FOO), we present a first readiness level assessment for ocean observing of the oxycline in EBS. This was to determine current ocean observing design and future needs in EBS regions (e.g., the California Current System, the Equatorial Eastern Pacific off Ecuador, the Peru–Chile Current system, the Northern Benguela off Namibia, etc.) building on the FOO strategy. We choose regional champions to assess the ocean observing design elements proposed in the FOO, namely, requirement processes, coordination of observational elements, and data management and information products and the related best practices. The readiness level for the FOO elements was derived for each EBS through a similar and very general ad hoc questionnaire. Despite some weaknesses in the questionnaire design and its completion, an assessment was achievable. We found that fisheries and ecosystem management are a societal requirement for all regions, but maturity levels of observational elements and data management and information products differ substantially. Identification of relevant stakeholders, developing strategies for readiness level improvements, and building and sustaining infrastructure capacity to implement these strategies are fundamental milestones for the VOICE initiative over the next 2–5 years and beyond. Las series de tiempo se procesaron de los productos de la plataforma del Espectroradiómetro de imágenes de resolución media “ModerateResolutionImagingSpectroradiometer”, “MODIS” y se usó la plataforma EarthEngine con una resolución temporal de 16 días y con un tamaño de píxel de 500 m. Las curvas de tendencia de fPAR, LAI y NDVI son muy similares para las ecorregiones, por lo que para futuros estudios no es necesario analizar las tres variables. Estas muestran una homogeneidad internamente y se diferencian bien unas de otras, sin embargo, tanto los bosques húmedos estacionales como los bosques secos del pacífico, se comportan en forma muy similar en cuanto a los máximos y mínimos con relación a la tendencia. El descomponer las series de tiempo en tendencia y estacionalidad es una buena forma de análisis para realizar monitoreo, relacionar las variables biofísicas y su productividad con otros elementos climáticos, como por ejemplo, el efecto ENOS. Se realizó identificación taxonómica a nivel de Phylum, clase, orden y familia; así como de grupos funcionales detritívoros, ingenieros del suelo, herbívoros y depredadores. Fue registrada mayor densidad de macrofauna en el sistema de conversión agroecológica (7424 ind/m2) en comparación al sistema de manejo convencional (1984 ind/m2), con alta concentración de individuos (7488 ind/m2) en los primeros 20 centímetros del perfil; y densidad proporcional del 56.2% en la profundidad 0 a 10 centímetros. Taxonómicamente se determinó dominancia de la clase Insecta en ambos sistemas de manejo. La distribución de familias de la macrofauna edáfi ca fue diferente entre sistemas, con evidente influencia del rol por profundidad de muestreo. El grupo funcional ingenieros del suelo predominó en conversión agroecológica; mientras los detritívoros lo hicieron en manejo convencional. Fue determinada la infl uencia de la calidad de micro hábitat en las propiedades físico-químicas del suelo con el componente biológico; demostrándose efecto de las prácticas de manejo sobre la densidad, diversidad y distribución de la macrofauna edáfica. The traditional interpretation of this norm maintains that different levels of environmental protection should be expected between developed countries and emerging and/or developing countries. However, this interpretation began to be questioned and challenged by civil society actors, both globally and in particular domestic contexts. This article describes the process of localization of the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities in the Brazilian domestic discourse of organized civil society on climate change between the years 2005 and 2015, from a constructivist perspective of International Relations. To achieve this objective, the different interpretations and reinterpretations of the principle by non-state actors in Brazil are presented. En el río existen graves problemas de conservación derivados del aterramiento, extensibles a la trucha Salmo trutta L. 1758, único hospedador de sus larvas. Entre 2002 y 2009 sucedieron de forma consecutiva graves riadas y la mayor sequía registrada en la cuenca. La mayor avenida en 100 años del año 2006 produjo el movimiento de gran parte de la población de náyades, con un impacto mortal que según tramos afectó entre el 5 y el 34% de los efectivos. Se comprobó una mortandad diferencial en relación con la topografía local y composición granulométrica del lecho, pero independiente de la densidad y la talla de los individuos. La sequía afectó al tercio final del cauce y supuso la pérdida del 37% de ejemplares del tramo. La aplicación de modelos poblacionales permite estimar que estos eventos estocásticos agravan significativamente el proceso de extinción, anticipando el presumible colapso demográfico teóricamente esperable para 2027-2032, provocado por la actuación continuada del resto de problemas. La aplicación de un plan de restauración del cauce, enfocado a las náyades y sus hospedadores, así como el rescate de adultos tras los eventos extremos, su asentamiento temporal en zonas favorables y la propagación de la especie sobre alevines de trucha son medidas urgentes que deberían desarrollarse antes de poder afrontar un programa de cría en cautividad que evite la extinción de la especie en la Cuenca del Duero. Dentro del análisis se recopiló una serie de consideraciones técnicas relacionadas con la generación de GEI de las diferentes PTAR que hacen parte de la cuenca. De acuerdo con las características del sistema empleado en el tratamiento de las aguas residuales, se determina cuál proceso genera mayor aporte de emisiones, teniendo en cuenta el estado actual de cada planta. Para ello, se emplea la metodología nivel 1 del Grupo Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre el Cambio Climático (IPCC) para los inventarios de GEI. Con base en los resultados obtenidos, se identifica cuáles sistemas de tratamiento empleados en las PTAR inciden en mayor proporción en la emisión de GEI. Mejia Sánchez Description An account of the resource La preocupación actual por las notables evidencias del cambio climático global está llevando a los países a mitigar sus principales causas: los gases efecto invernadero (GEI), a través de diferentes estrategias, entre ellas y haciendo un gran énfasis esta la educación ambiental.  La huella de carbono es un indicador del impacto ambiental sobre la atmósfera, que cuantifica las diferentes emisiones de GEI, que se pueden estimar de manera aproximada haciendo uso de los aplicativos disponibles en la web. Se presentan en el presente artículo las principales campañas de educación ambiental y experiencias desarrolladas por el semillero de cultura, gestión e investigación ambiental “Cuida Tu Huella”, con relación a la Huella de  Carbono en el Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano (ITM). La estimación de la huella de carbono personal arrojó resultados de 4.22 y 3.87 ton CO2/año para los años 2011 y 2012 respectivamente, siendo aún más importante el impacto que se ha podido lograr en la comunidad académica, que trasciende el espacio geográfico de la Institución, ya que ha permitido lograr la concientización en cuanto a identificar las diferentes actividades que más producen GEI, transformando así los hábitos de vida por otros más ambientalmente sostenibles.
