In this study were made measures for process optimization supported by tools such as mass balance and study methods, time and motion, considering the technological and socio-economic context of the sector. The results showed process-efficiency between 51 and 59 %; it was identified that the straining stage has the highest water consumption and solid waste generation (fiber cassava pulp); the starch slurry&rsquo;s sedimentation stage generates the most amount of liquid wastes with high-pollution load. It evidenced the need to standardize and optimize the washing-peeling and strain stages because they require the largest process times; to increase the grating-rasping machine capacity (this critical stage influences the process efficiency and the final starch quality) besides recording the process information as control strategy. El desarrollo de la investigación se centró en una revisión estructurada de 18 libros de textos de Biología o Ciencias Naturales en los grados ya mencionados, publicados por dos editoriales de circulación nacional que han sido publicados en los últimos 20 años, se asumió que sus propuestas temáticas están acorde a los estándares curriculares publicados por el Ministerio de Educación. Paralelamente se hizo una revisión de textos científicos o de divulgación universitaria reconocidos internacionalmente sobre Fisiología, Ecología y Evolución Biológica, que manejan el concepto Adaptación Biológica, que permitieron reunir elementos para la realización de un marco teórico sobre el cual cimentar el trabajo. El análisis realizado a cada uno de los textos, se manejó por medio del diseño de una matriz que permitiera recopilar de manera clara y concisa cada uno de los elementos propios de cada uno de los contenidos analizados. Así, se pudo establecer que el concepto Adaptación Biológica, se asocia al Modelo Evolutivo, manejado aún con poca profundidad en la mayoría de textos, ya que este se establece como la sumatoria de características que permiten a los organismos mantenerse dentro de determinados ambientes y en algunos de los libros no se hace importante su relación con el proceso de Selección Natural. Paralelo a esto, el manejo disciplinar para el abordaje del concepto demuestra en su mayoría rasgos teleológicos que procuran la intencionalidad y finalidad, lo que le resta a dichas temáticas y al concepto central de esta investigación, su estatus de principio natural, que no persigue ni pretende tener una direccionalidad hacia mejores óptimos para los ambientes y las especies.
