One kilogram of the biological product Biosol (trade mark) was added to the seeds at sowing time (1kg / ha) and the biofertilizer Greensol (trade mark) was sprayed by airplane (200 ml / ha) in association with fungicides, when 5% of panicles had been emitted. The treatments used were T1: Control; T2: Greensol; T3: Biosol + Greensol and T4: Biosol. Five parameters were evaluated: number of shoots per meter, dry weight 90 days after sowing, grain yield, empty grains percentage and incidence of brown spot disease (Helminthosporium oryzae Breda de Haan). Number of shoots per meter was uniform in all treatments. Grouped analysis indicated superiority of all treatments with Biosol over the control for the parameters of dry weight of plants and roots. Treatments T3 and T4 presented superior yields. In these treatments empty grain percentage was lower than the control. Brown spot severity index indicated that all treatments were better than control and T3 and T4 treatments had the lowest disease index.

KEY-WORDS: Helminthosporium oryzae; Oryza sativa; disease control; rice.

</text>

                <text>Um experimento foi conduzido no período de dezembro/2005 a julho/2006, no município de Remígio, PB, com o objetivo de se avaliar a ação do biofertilizante supermagro aplicado ao solo após diluição em água, na proporção de 1:4, na ausência e presença de potássio, sobre a produção e nutrição mineral do maracujazeiro-amarelo (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg). O delineamento estatístico foi blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial (5 x 2), sendo cinco doses de biofertilizante (0, 1, 2, 3 e 4 L planta-1 da mistura), na ausência e presença de potássio (K2O). O supermagro foi aplicado 30 dias antes e a cada 90 dias após o plantio e o potássio aos 60 dias após o plantio e a cada 60 dias até a colheita. O solo da área experimental é um Cambissolo Húmico Aluminoférrico léptico. Semanalmente, os frutos foram contados e pesados, não só para avaliação da quantidade mas, também, para obtenção de sua produção por planta, massa média de frutos e produtividade; no início da frutificação as plantas estavam adequadamente supridas de N, K, S, B e Zn mas deficientes em P, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe e Mn. A massa média de frutos foi superior nas plantas dos tratamentos com supermagro e potássio, porém a produtividade não foi influenciada pela interação supermagro versus potássio.An experiment was carried out during the period from December, 2005 to July, 2006, in municipality of Remígio, Paraíba, Brazil, in order to evaluate the effects of the biofertilizer 'supermagro' applied to soil in liquid form diluted in water in a ratio of 1:4, 30 days before and at intervals of 90 days after planting in absence and presence of potassium applied 60 days after planting and every 60 days subsequently until harvest on the production and mineral nutrition of yellow passion fruit plants (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa Deg.) The treatments were distributed in randomized blocks using the factorial design 5 x 2 referring to biofertilizer levels: 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 L plant-1 in absence and presence of potassium at a K2O level of 20 g plant-1. The soil of the experimental area is a Neossoil. The fruits were harvested daily for evaluation of fruit number per plant, mass of fruit, individual production per plant and productivity. The plants in the initial fructification phase were adequately provided with N, K, S, B, and Zn, but they were deficient in P, Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe and Mn. The mean mass of fruits was superior in plants of the treatments with biofertilizer and potassium, but the interaction biofertilizer 'supermagro' versus potassium did not influence plant productivity.</text>

                <text> This paper is a short discussion about the category in the territory called Territorial Policies of the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA) and its devices to access land. The developmentalist fallacy that fills the MDA supports the proposals with a speech that presents the countryside as the locus of the delay, which 'underdeveloped' permeates the ideals of an environment where the disadvantages persist. The country would be designed according to this logic, as a space with disabilities who require incentives and planning so you can walk on the tracks of development. It is observable, however, that the investment of resources that accelerate the circulation, reproduction and accumulation of capital does not necessarily have contributed to changing the social frameworks in the municipalities that make up the interior of Ceará. Keywords: Development. Territory. Public Policy. Family Farming. Geography. Este trabalho é uma pequena discussão sobre a categoria território nas chamadas Políticas Territoriais do Ministério do Desenvolvimento Agrário (MDA) e seus artifícios de acesso à terra. A falácia desenvolvimentista que recheia as propostas do MDA corrobora com o discurso que apresenta o rural como o lócus do atraso, cujo “desenvolvimento precário” perpassa os ideais de um meio onde as desvantagens persistem. O rural seria concebido, segundo essa lógica, como um espaço com deficiências, que necessita de incentivos e planejamentos para que consiga caminhar nos trilhos do desenvolvimento. É observável, todavia, que as aplicações de recursos que aceleram a circulação, a reprodução e a acumulação do capital não necessariamente têm contribuído para alterar os quadros sociais nos municípios que compõem o interior cearense. Palavras-chaves: Desenvolvimento. <text>Currently, family farming has taken visibility both in academic works and in the design of public policies. Even though are recognized own characteristics which differentiate it from the business production, they are presented according to the type of production and the territory where they are inserted, particularities that allow defining and analyzing them. In the case of family horticultural and flower production, which supplies with fresh products to big urban centers, the specificity of labor-intensive production system, the technologies utilized, the characteristics of the obtained products, their commercialization and their localization, differs substantially from others productive systems of the country. According to diagnosis made by INTA [2004] and other qualitative works in suburbs of Buenos Aires, the difficulties faced by these households are multiples. Among the most important are mentioned the subordination in the commercial chain and the access to financing. This paper seeks account for a territorial development project in the peri-urban region of Gran La Plata, which addresses from an integral perspective, to financing aspects and commercialization to family farmers It focuses on 30 family farmers from La Plata and Berazategui belonging to the project 'Banco Social', implemented by Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y Forestales from UNLP; advancing on an analysis regarding the access to financing and the commercial strategies carried out by the family farmers under studyEn la actualidad, la agricultura familiar ha tomado visibilidad tanto en trabajos académicos como en el diseño de políticas públicas. Si bien se reconocen características propias que la diferencian de la producción empresarial, se presentan de acuerdo al tipo de producción y el territorio donde se inserta, particularidades que permiten definirlas y analizarlas. En el caso de la producción hortiflorícola familiar que abastece de productos frescos a los grandes centros urbanos, la especificidad del sistema productivo intensivo en trabajo, las tecnologías utilizadas, las características de los productos obtenidos, su comercialización y localización, difiere sustancialmente de otros sistemas productivos del país. De acuerdo a diagnósticos elaborados por INTA [2004] y otros trabajos cualitativos en el periurbano bonaerense, las dificultades que afrontan estas unidades familiares son de carácter múltiple. Entre las más importantes se mencionan la subordinación en la cadena comercial y acceso al financiamiento. Este trabajo busca dar cuenta de un proyecto de desarrollo territorial en la región periurbana del Gran La Plata, en el cual se aborda desde una perspectiva integral aspectos de financiamiento y comercialización a productores familiares. El mismo se focaliza en 30 productores familiares de La Plata y Berazategui pertenecientes al proyecto 'Banco Social' implementado desde la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y Forestales de la UNLP; avanzando en un análisis respecto al acceso al financiamiento y las estrategias comerciales llevadas por los productores familiares bajo estudio</text>

This research aimed to study the economic performance of the family farming at Santa Tereza settlement, Porangatu, North of Goiás. Data were collected interviewing 45 families, in the 2001/2002 growing season. Factor analysis and a multiple regression model were used to explain the business profitability. The Santa Tereza settlement presents low rainfall, scarce water sources and a small market for their products. Farmers received government investment and operating capital, but did not receive technical assistance or human capital training. Their main activities are dairy, swine, poultry, rice and corn production. The small amount of working capital induces the adoption of labor intensive technology and small production scale (47.9% of the area is cultivated), and, as a consequence, 77.5% of the family labor is not used. This explains the low productivity levels and the high risk of the annual crops, although, all agricultural activities presented positive gross margin amounting to R$ 2,188.00 per year. Dairy was the only activity which presented positive net income. Retirement income represents 65% of the family income. Factor and regression analyses showed that technical efficiency, use of land resources, and family labor are directly related to better economic results, while annual crops and hired labor have negative effect on farm profitability.

KEY-WORDS: Land reform settlement; production and income; factor analysis.
</text>

                <text>El capitalismo “verde”, como se presenta en las tres Conferencias de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo, se ha propuesto para enfrentar las crisis del medio ambiente (ecológicos) y social (pobreza) que se vive actualmente en todo el mundo. Este 'enverdecimiento' es una nueva etapa de acumulación de capital que implica: el uso de mecanismos financieros, como los intercambios de deuda por naturaleza; la licencia de las ongambientales para negociar los recursos de los países endeudados con las grandes corporaciones, el establecimiento de los valores monetarios de los “bienes comunes globales”. Por otro lado, los nuevos trabajadores son mujeres y hombres campesinos e indígenas que han adquirido nuevos papeles como proveedores de servicios en las nuevas industrias, como el llamado turismo ecológico. En este artículo se considera Costa Rica en esta etapa del capitalismo y se hacen las críticas al respecto. ---- Green Capitalism, as presented at the three linked United Nations Conferences on Environment and Development, has been proposed as a means to confront the environmental (ecological) and social (poverty) crises currently being experienced around the world. This “greening” is a new stage of capital accumulation that entails: the use of financial mechanisms, such as debt-for-nature exchanges; the license of environmental ngos to broker the indebted countries’ resources with large corporations, and to establish the monetary values of the ‘global commons’. Meanwhile, the new labourers are peasants and Indigenous women and men who have acquired new roles as service providers in the new industries, such as eco-tourism. This paper considers this stage of capitalism in Costa Rica and the critiques to it.</text>

                <text>La presente investigación se efectuó en el Laboratorio de Beneficio y Almacenamiento de Semillas del Instituto Tecnológico de Roque, Celaya, Guanajuato, México, durante el primer semestre de 2007. Comprobada la existencia de rotenona en la oleorresina extraída de semilla de jícama (Pachyrhizus erosus), 'San Juanito' se empleó como bioinsecticida con el objetivo de controlar incidencia de gorgojo (Acanthoscelides obtectus Say) en semilla de frijol en almacén. A 168 h del estudio, el primero de tres grupos de concentración (Ci) disminuyó 35% la población de gorgojo, sin formar parte del cálculo de la concentración letal (CLi). El segundo grupo logró 50% de muertes del insecto a 24 h de aplicado, pero en 48 h alcanzó 95% y se mantuvo hasta 168 h. Esto permitió calcular CLi a 24 h (CL10 4,0 x 10-3, CL50 1,5 x 10-2, CL90 5,5 x 10-2 g/100 ml), 48 h (CL10 6,0 x 10-3, CL50 2,0 x 10-2, CL90 7,0 x 10-2 g/100 ml) y 168 h (CL10 3,3 x 10-3, CL50 1,3 x 10-2, CL90 4,9 x 10-2 g/100 ml. El tercer grupo de concentración eliminó 100% de individuos en 24 h y el valor se estableció de 5 x 10-1 a 9 x 10-1 g/100 ml.</text>

                <text>The use of new technologies for increased production in the field is configured as a primary issue for the economic viability of rural smallholders in the Amazon region, especially those producing cassava in the state of Acre, one of the main and most important crops produced in the State. In this sense, the objective is through the present study, discuss the use of technologies in cassava production in the state of Acre, to analyze the technical and economic coefficients of cassava production in the state, discussing alternatives to overcome the barriers to a better economic performance of that culture. To this end, we work with the methodology of the research project entitled 'Socioeconomic Analysis of Rural Family Production Systems in Acre' - ASPF, who developed a specific methodology for this type of production, from field surveys conducted in the state concerned. The results indicate that cassava production in Acre suffers from lack suitable for employment in cassava, evidenced by low productivity and high costs of production technologies which can be corrected with appropriate policy to strengthen the sector.</text>
