Los resultados muestran que los SE más importantes proporcionados por la construcción de terrazas están relacionados con servicios de regulación como el control de la erosión, escorrentía y otros riesgos naturales externos. Además, la presencia de terrazas favorece servicios de aprovisionamiento como el suministro de alimentos, fibras, y cantidad y calidad del agua. Se constatan las funciones ambientales, geomorfológicas e hidrológicas de las terrazas, así como la mejora de la calidad de vida de los habitantes. Sin embargo, los avances tecnológicos en la agricultura han llevado al abandono de este tipo de construcciones, con importantes riesgos de erosión y pérdida de SE. Nuestra evaluación destaca la importancia de preservar y restaurar las terrazas como parte de la agricultura regenerativa, con múltiples beneficios para el funcionamiento de los paisajes culturales y, en definitiva, para la sociedad. The novel corona virus has a specific tropism for the low respiratory airways causing viral pneumonia. Early diagnosis of suspicious COVID-19 pneumonia represents a pillar for immediate management. Computed tomography [CT] scan is considered the gold-standard screening tool, but it has several limitations. A chest ultrasound could play a role in COVID-19.  Aim of the work:To evaluate the role of lung ultrasound [LUS] in diagnosis of suspicious COVID-19 pneumonia. Patients and Methods:Sixty patients with suspected COVID-19 pneumonia were included. They were initially evaluated in triage and initial diagnosis [Al-Azhar University Hospital; Damietta] and followed up by the surveillance and infection control team till the final diagnosis or discharge from isolation hospitals. All were evaluated clinically, by imaging modalities [LUS, chest computed tomography [CT]] and diagnosis confirmed by polymerase chain reaction. Data of LUS and chest CT compared to results of PCR. Results: LUS had sensitivity of 88.2%, specificity of 11.5%, PPV of 56.6%, NPV of 42.8% and overall diagnostic accuracy of 55.0%. on the other side, CT scan had 94.1%, 3.85, 56.14%, 33.33% and 57.0% for sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and overall diagnostic accuracy, successively. Results of LUS are slightly lower than CT. Conclusion: US is a useful screening and monitoring tool in suspected COVID-19. It is feasible, portable with an accepted rate of sensitivity. However, it is advisable to be used as an integrated diagnostic tool. In addition, monitoring molecular changes in the virus can help elucidate chains of transmission and identify mutations that might influence virus transmission efficiency. This was illustrated by a recent laboratory investigation we conducted on an imported MERS-CoV case in Greece. Two oropharyngeal swab specimens were collected on the 1st and 2nd day of patient hospitalization and tested using two real-time RT-PCR (rRT-PCR) assays targeting the UpE and Orf-1a regions of the MERS-CoV genome and RT-PCR and partial sequencing of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase and nucleocapsid genes. Serum specimens were also collected and serological test were performed. Results from the first swab sample were inconclusive while the second swab was strongly positive for MERS-CoV RNA by rRT-PCR and confirmed positive by RT-PCR and partial gene sequencing. Positive serologic test results further confirmed MERS-CoV infection. Full-length nucleocapsid and spike gene coding sequences were later obtained from the positive swab sample. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the virus was closely related to recent human-derived MERS-CoV strains obtained in Jeddah and Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in April 2014 and dromedary camels in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. These findings were consistent with the patient's history. We also identified a unique amino acid substitution in the spike receptor binding domain that may have implications for receptor binding efficiency. Our initial inconclusive rRT-PCR results highlight the importance of collecting multiple specimens from suspect MERS-CoV cases and particularly specimens from the lower respiratory tract. The progression of this viral infection occurs in the airways of the lungs with an exaggerated inflammatory response referred to as the “cytokine storm” that can lead to lethal lung injuries. In the absence of an effective anti-viral molecule and until the formulation of a successful vaccine, anti-inflammatory drugs might offer a complementary tool for controlling the associated complications of COVID-19 and thus decreasing the subsequent fatalities. Drug repurposing for several molecules has emerged as a rapid temporary solution for COVID-19. Among these drugs is Thalidomide; a historically emblematic controversial molecule that harbors an FDA approval for treating erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL) and multiple myeloma (MM). Based on just one-case report that presented positive outcomes in a patient treated amongst others with Thalidomide, two clinical trials on the efficacy and safety of Thalidomide in treating severe respiratory complications in COVID-19 patients were registered. Yet, the absence of substantial evidence on Thalidomide usage in that context along with the discontinued studies on the efficiency of this drug in similar pulmonary diseases, might cause a significant obstacle for carrying out further clinical evaluations.
