El trabajo analiza asimismo la necesidad de una síntesis entre derechos humanos y derechos de la naturaleza habida cuenta de amenazas como las del cambio climático y concluye con una propuesta de “naturalización del individuo” en la que se incluyen aportaciones confucianas.   Abstract: In this paper we focus on the challenge for Human Rights – one of the greatest inventions of Western culture – that supposes the declaration/recognition of the Rights of Nature, Pachamama, present in the Latin-American Constitutions based on the so called “Andean Philosophy”. Although this seems to be coherent with the logic of the process of development of Human Rights, in the end it questions the very basis of that process and even discriminates the individual. We analyze as well the need of a synthesis between Human Rights and Rights of Nature, taking into account threats like climate change and we conclude with a proposal of “naturalization of the individual” in which some Confucian inputs are included. Irrigation is important for strengthening local and regional economy and for enhancing food security. The present paper aimed at providing a brief review on key aspects of irrigation management in Latin America. Poor irrigation management can have great impact on crop production and on environment while good management reduces the waste of soil and water and help farmers maximizing their profits. It was found that additional research is needed to allow a better understanding of crop water requirements under Latin American conditions as well as to provide farmers with local derived information for irrigation scheduling. The advantages of deficit irrigation practices and the present and future opportunities with the application of remote sensing tools for water management were also considered. It is clear that due to the importance of irrigated agriculture, collaborative work among Latin American researchers and institutions is of paramount importance to face the challenges imposed by a growing population, environment degradation, and competition in the global market.Los países sudamericanos tienen un gran potencial para aumentar sus áreas regadas. El riego es importante para fortalecer las economías locales y regionales y para mejorar la seguridad alimentaria. Esta revisión tiene por objeto proporcionar un resumen de los aspectos más importantes del manejo del riego en Sudamérica. Un manejo pobre del riego puede tener un alto impacto en la producción de cultivos y en el ambiente, en tanto que un buen manejo reduce las pérdidas de suelo y agua, y ayuda a los productores a maximizar sus ingresos. Se encontró que se requiere investigación adicional que permita una mejor comprensión de los requerimientos de agua de los cultivos en las condiciones sudamericanas, y también para proporcionar a los agricultores información local que permita hacer programación de riego. También se consideraron las ventajas del riego deficitario y las oportunidades presentes y futuras de la aplicación de los sensores remotos para el manejo del agua. Está claro que dada la importancia de la agricultura de riego se requiere realizar trabajos colaborativos entre investigadores e instituciones de Sudamérica, para enfrentar los desafíos que imponen el crecimiento de la población, la degradación del ambiente y la competencia en los mercados globales. El estudio se realizó en el Laboratorio de Procesamiento Primario de Productos Agrícolas y Bioquímica de Alimentos de la Facultad de Agronomía (FAGRO) de la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) durante el año 2014. La metodología permitió determinar algunas características físicas, texturales y composición química por los métodos de AOAC (Association of Official Analytical Chemists). Se obtuvieron batatas con un menor coeficiente de variabilidad en el peso (CV: 20,12%), forma (CV: 5,63%) y tamaño (CV: 12,80%). Esta respuesta permitió establecer tres categorías de calidad con una baja incidencia de defectos (2,15%) y daños físico-mecánicos (30,25%), esta última asociada a la alta resistencia del material (6,25+0,05 kgf/mm). Las batatas presentaron contenidos de azúcares reductores de 9,88%, fibra de 6,19% y proteína de 4,13%; estas características nutricionales sugieren su uso como suplemento alimenticio. La producción semi-mecanizada con la implementación de las técnicas de las BPA, permitió obtener batatas con características de importancia para la agroindustria procesadora de alimentos IV Gama y, a nivel del consumidor, con una calidad física homogénea. The need to treat patients remotely and with limited resources led hospitals to identify a gap in their operational situational awareness. During the pandemic, Israeli Aerospace Industries helped hospitals to address the gap by designing a system to support their effective operation, management and decision making. In this paper, we report on the development of a functional, working prototype of the system using model-based engineering approach and tools. Our approach relies on domain-specific modeling, incorporating metamodeling and domain-specific representations based on the problem domain’s ontology. The tools practiced are those embedded into the Eclipse Modeling Framework—specifically, Ecore Tools and Sirius. While these technological tools are typically used to create dedicated, engineering-related modeling tools, in this work, we use them to create a functional system prototype. We discuss the advantages of our approach as well as the challenges with respect to the existing tools and their underlying technology. Based on the reported experience, we encourage practitioners to adopt model-based engineering as an effective way to develop systems. Furthermore, we call researchers and tool developers to improve the state-of-the-art as well as the existing implementations of pertinent tools to support model-based rapid prototyping.
