O artigo retrata processos educativos evidenciados na Pousada Vitória e Gaia Village (ambos em SC/Brasil) e NaturGut Ophoven (Alemanha), visando à constituição de Espaços Educadores Sustentáveis. A pesquisa qualitativa, pautada na Fenomenologia da Percepção, envolveu entrevistas junto às coordenadoras, observação participante, estudo dos registros de campo e dos documentos. Dentre os processos, emergem: vivências em museu interativo, espaços de convivência e ao ar livre; estimular atividades na agricultura orgânica, manejo sustentável; bioconstrução; inclusão de pessoas de diferentes situações econômicas, nacionalidades e culturas. Vislumbramos a imersão em uma Educação Ambiental que abrigue a dimensão afetiva e transcendental do ser humano.

Este artigo examina como evoluíram no Brasil as regiões urbanas criadas a partir de uma estrutura hierárquica com cidade principal e cidades subordinadas. Três casos planejados a partir da ideia britânica de cidades satélites na segunda metade do século XX foram considerados: o norte do Paraná, o Distrito Federal e o norte de Mato Grosso. Ao constatar a transformação física no conceito original aplicado, foram estudadas as implicações das atuais manchas urbanas e do seu contexto regional. Para tanto foram ponderados o modo de crescimento e as conexões entre as formas urbanas, bem como sua relação com o contexto natural. Como resultado, percebeu-se que as cidades se espraiaram, suas manchas urbanas se associaram e circundaram cursos d’água e reservas florestais. Portanto, visando uma interação cidade-natureza adequada e sustentável, a visão ecológica deve estar contemplada no planejamento futuro destas regiões.

La teoría de las representaciones sociales se interesa en las producciones simbólicas y en el lenguaje mediante el cual los individuos construyen sus mundos. En este contexto se persiguió interpretar las representaciones sociales elaboradas por los comuneros y funcionarios del Ministerio de Turismo y Ambiente de la Provincia del Carchi como manifestación simbólico- cultural de la conservación del medio ambiente ante las actividades turísticas. Para lo cual se empleó el método hermenéutico que facilitó deconstruir los significados y develar las creencias, los informantes clave se integraron por ocho comuneros y seis funcionarios públicos. Los hallazgos señalan que la manera de aprehender la realidad por parte de los comuneros ante las actividades turísticas indica que serían activos en: gestión en turismo y ambiente, guianza, atención al cliente, gastronomía local, elaboración de artesanías con recursos locales y agroecología. Mientras que el conjunto de creencias, valores y conocimientos que comparte el grupo de funcionarios del M.A.T., revela que se identifican con perspectivas innovadoras e inclusivas, apegadas a los principios de la sustentabilidad. Aunque las experiencias y el bagaje de ambos grupos de informantes los lleva a construir algunas percepciones que se contraponen en cuanto a la gestión de las actividades turísticas y ambientales.

Se analizó la dinámica biológica presente en un sistema piloto de lombricultura con la especie Eisenia foetida para el manejo de biosólidos provenientes de la Planta de Tratamiento Aguas Residuales -PTAR- Salitre, Bogotá D. C., con el fin de establecer la influencia de los organismos presentes en la transformación y translocación de la materia orgánica -MO-, la eficiencia de este proceso, así como la calidad del humus y su posible uso como abono orgánico. Esto, mediante análisis biológicos en diferentes etapas. En la primera fase del sistema se identificó que los biosólidos están clasificados como tipo B de acuerdo con la EPA (Agencia de Protección del Medioambiente de los EE. UU.), y presentan condiciones desfavorables para su aplicación a cultivos agrícolas. Sin embargo, luego de dos meses de procesamiento biológico, el humus tuvo características similares a las de un compost maduro, con baja presencia de microorganismos patógenos, así como también un leve aumento en la diversidad y equitatividad de la meso y la macrofauna.

El etanol o alcohol etílico se obtiene mediante la aplicación de varios procesos químicos, empezando por la fermentación para pasar a un proceso de destilación; dentro de este último, la fermentación alcohólica es la más utilizada. El etanol presenta una variedad de usos, que van desde combustibles, culinarios, farmacéuticos, industria química, entre otros. Una cualidad principal es su carácter renovable y la poca afectación al ambiente que produce.Los efectos ambientales que están desarrollando el cambio climático obligan a buscar alternativas de generación de combustibles y materias primas para la industria que reduzcan o mitiguen la afectación ambiental.El análisis beneficio/costo es elemento preponderante que definirá la mejor alternativa social y económica. En el presente proyecto, se logró obtener etanol de la savia de palma de corozo Attalea butyracea, las pruebas químicas preliminares, mostraron su buena calidad de flamabilidad. De esta forma, quedó demostrada la viabilidad técnica de producir etanol a partir de esta fuente vegetal, no obstante sehace necesario seguir investigando y documentando aspectos como volumen y eficiencia de producción y experimentar otras tecnologías que permitan mejores rendimientos, buscar nuevos mercados, fuentes de financiamiento, y a futuro investigar sobre la disponibilidadde áreas destinadas para la plantación, producción, macro de especies vegetales de este tipo de palmas y la localización de una futura planta de producción de etanol, entre otros.

La desarticulación de los conocimientos “impartidos” en las aulas de clase de ciencias sociales así como de ciencias naturales en relación con la vida real, la casi total anulación de saberes “otros” no reconocidos como válidos en el discurso occidental, la distancia entre dos discursos científicos que se han hecho parecer excluyentes y los bajos “resultados” perceptibles de su ejercicio magisterial, convocan a dos maestros del Colegio San Bernardino de Bosa, en la ciudad de Bogotá, a re-pensar-se los qué, cómo y desde dónde de su práctica pedagógica. Es así que de tal disertación nace el Seminario de Socio-Ecología, un ejercicio pedagógico interdisciplinar en el que ambas ciencias se encuentran en torno a cuatro ejes articuladores: expedición botánica, diversidad, crisis climática y comida, procurando contextualizar el conocimiento científico a la realidad de la comunidad educativa, para darle sentido a los saberes que se comparten en la escuela. Dicho propósito se ha estructurado en cuatro momentos del saber que se constituyen en la metodología del seminario: ¿de qué se trata? (¡Vamos a leer!), ¿qué dicen los expertos? (Descifrando la lectura), ¿qué aportan mis pares? (Compartir de saberes) y ¿qué aprendí? (Hacer memoria). La visión integradora del seminario permite que su planeación y ejecución sean realizadas a partir de los estándares curriculares de las áreas, así los participantes abordan los fenómenos naturales y sociales desde una perspectiva articuladora, sistémica y crítica.

Neste artigo procura-se mostrar a heterogeneidade da agricultura brasileira, que está composta por um segmento altamente produtivo e eficiente, de tipo patronal empresarial; um segmento também eficiente e rentável, de tipo familiar empresarial; e um segmento de agricultores familiares pobres ou camponeses que produz para autoconsumo, mora no estabelecimento, gera emprego para os filhos, e que não migra porque seu custo de oportunidade para migrar é baixo. A inexistência de economias de escala na agricultura, a baixa lucratividade da atividade em função da baixa rotatividade do capital fixo, o ambiente concorrencial do mercado agrícola e os riscos que atingem a atividade (clima, pragas e preços) fazem com que não haja interesse em monopolizá-lo por um setor único de produtores, o que abre espaço, portanto, para a coexistência entre setores heterogêneos do meio rural, cada um com sua própria lógica e seus próprios interesses e reivindicações.

An account of the resource
In this paper, we outline the need for a coordinated international effort toward the building of an open-access Global Ocean Oxygen Database and ATlas (GO2DAT) complying with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). GO2DAT will combine data from the coastal and open ocean, as measured by the chemical Winkler titration method or by sensors (e.g., optodes, electrodes) from Eulerian and Lagrangian platforms (e.g., ships, moorings, profiling floats, gliders, ships of opportunities, marine mammals, cabled observatories). GO2DAT will further adopt a community-agreed, fully documented metadata format and a consistent quality control (QC) procedure and quality flagging (QF) system. GO2DAT will serve to support the development of advanced data analysis and biogeochemical models for improving our mapping, understanding and forecasting capabilities for ocean O2 changes and deoxygenation trends. It will offer the opportunity to develop quality-controlled data synthesis products with unprecedented spatial (vertical and horizontal) and temporal (sub-seasonal to multi-decadal) resolution. These products will support model assessment, improvement and evaluation as well as the development of climate and ocean health indicators. They will further support the decision-making processes associated with the emerging blue economy, the conservation of marine resources and their associated ecosystem services and the development of management tools required by a diverse community of users (e.g., environmental agencies, aquaculture, and fishing sectors). A better knowledge base of the spatial and temporal variations of marine O2 will improve our understanding of the ocean O2 budget, and allow better quantification of the Earth’s carbon and heat budgets. With the ever-increasing need to protect and sustainably manage ocean services, GO2DAT will allow scientists to fully harness the increasing volumes of O2 data already delivered by the expanding global ocean observing system and enable smooth incorporation of much higher quantities of data from autonomous platforms in the open ocean and coastal areas into comprehensive data products in the years to come. This paper aims at engaging the community (e.g., scientists, data managers, policy makers, service users) toward the development of GO2DAT within the framework of the UN Global Ocean Oxygen Decade (GOOD) program recently endorsed by IOC-UNESCO. A roadmap toward GO2DAT is proposed highlighting the efforts needed (e.g., in terms of human resources).
