In 2004, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya decided to change one of its critical and strategic information services: the online teaching support platform. An Open Source software, Moodle, was adopted and the previous proprietary software was abandoned. In 2020, the home confinement of the population due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has been a stress test for the entire university community, and very specifically by those responsible for providing the support of the online teaching support platform. The increase in activity and the prospect of the generalization of online assessment raised the concerns of possible scalability issues with the quiz functionality during the examination period. The solution applied involved using Moodle’s IMS LTI interoperability features to deploy a high-performance version of the Moodle Quizz Module As A Service (SaaS), to plug-and-play within the university’s LMS without drawing on its internal resources. This solution combined with a systems strategy, private cloud operations, internal communication and teacher training, solved this problem and successfully complete the assessment of the university course in a situation of confinement.

Objetivos. Determinar la existencia de un estrés calórico en pollos de engorda y evaluar la efectividad de la suplementación con un producto orgánico de Cr en la disminución de este. Materiales y Métodos. Se determinó la existencia de un estrés calórico mediante la medición del comportamiento de la temperatura y la humedad relativa durante el experimento. Estos indicadores se registraron diariamente, con frecuencia de una hora, utilizando termohigrómetros digitales. Se utilizaron 45 pollos de engorda Ross 308 sexados machos, desde 1 d de edad, provenientes de un experimento de comportamiento productivo con 300 animales. Estos se distribuyeron en tres tratamientos (control,200y400ppbCr/kg-de-dieta) según un diseño completamente aleatorizado, con 4 repeticiones de 25 pollos cada una. Al finalizar el ciclo productivo se determinó la concentración de cortisol en suero sanguíneo de 15 animales por tratamiento, como indicador de estrés. Cada animal constituyó una unidad experimental. Para el análisis de los resultados, se utilizó el paquete estadístico computarizado INFOSTAT. Resultados. Los valores del índice de confort de temperatura y humedad durante los últimos 32 días de duración de la prueba oscilaron entre 112.53 y 115.26. Las concentraciones promedio de cortisol para los tres tratamientos evaluados fueron de 9.45, 8.91y7.66 nmol/L, respectivamente, sin mostrar diferencias significativas entre ellos. Conclusiones. El producto orgánico de Cr fue efectivo en la reducción del estrés calórico al disminuir la concentración de cortisol, aunque no significativamente, en suero sanguíneo de los pollos de engorda. Se ratificó la existencia de un estrés generado por calor durante la realización del experimento.

The purpose of this article is to highlight the importance of public policy on Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER) in promoting sustainable rural development for family farmers. As the research problem, we present the following question: how ATER public policy is related to sustainable rural development for family farmers? To this end, it sought to understand the role of ATER public policy; identify the main guidelines of the National Policy for Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Program (PNATER) that contribute to the sustainable rural development and suggest tools to help ATER to promote sustainable rural development. With bibliographic and documentary support and a qualitative approach, the research provides an overview of bias in updating the ATER legislation and seeing future prospects. In this analysis, which runs along the trajectory of extension in the country, stands out the indicators that support public policies as fundamental tools for their effective implementation. Such implementation includes the use of tools to assist ATER in fostering the development of family farming in three complementary approaches. First is a sustainable approach, a participatory one and a third, which is based on the relationship between ATER/research/teaching, based on dialogic process-oriented communication for rural areas.

Investigando as atitudes de alunos de uma escola secundária da Amazônia brasilei-ra, observamos, por exemplo, que não há diferenças estatisticamente significativas na atitude estética dos alunos em relação a Cerrado (um tipo brasileiro de Savana) e Desertos. Oceanos, mesmo não fazendo parte da geografia local, sobressaíram-se em relação ao Cerrado, em todos os casos. As evidências indicaram ainda que a Floresta Amazônia é o ecossistema mais apreciado pelos alunos. Em relação aos Seres Vivos, as atitudes dos alunos para Microorganismos foram mais negativistas que a Plantas e Animais, enquanto que esses últimos se destacaram mais em atitudes dos tipos utilitarista, estética, ecológica e naturalista. Sugerimos a importância de atividades educativas que valorizem a formação de atitudes culturalmente diversas em relação aos organismos e aos ecossistemas pouco apreciados pelos alunos.

Considerando que os consumidores estão mais conscientes com a sua saúde e mais preocupados com as condições ambientais, verifica-se uma crescente demanda por alimentos orgânicos. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a atividade antioxidante e o teor de fenólicos totais entre alface, rúcula e almeirão de cultivos orgânico e convencional, plantados em uma mesma horta. A atividade antioxidante dos extratos metanólicos das hortaliças foi determinada através do ensaio do DPPH. O teor de fenólicos totais foi obtido espectrofotometricamente de acordo com o método de Folin-Ciocalteu e calculado como equivalente de ácido gálico. A atividade antioxidante contra o radical livre DPPH foi: rúcula orgânica > almeirão orgânico > alface orgânica > rúcula convencional > almeirão convencional > alface convencional. O teor de fenólicos totais foi superior nos vegetais orgânicos. Os resultados deste estudo sugerem que as hortaliças orgânicas podem ser uma importante fonte de antioxidantes naturais e de compostos fenólicos e, portanto, seu consumo deve ser estimulado.Considering that consumers are becoming more conscious of their health and more concerned with environmental conditions, there has been an increasing demand for organic foods. The aim of this study was to compare the antioxidant activity and determine the total phenolic content of organic and conventional cultivations of lettuce, arugula, and chicory grown in the same vegetable garden. The antioxidant activity of the methanol extracts of these leaf vegetables wasdetermined using DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The total phenolic content in the extracts was determined spectrometrically according to the Folin-Ciocalteu method and calculated as equivalent of gallic acid. The antioxidant activity against the DPPH free radical was: organic arugula> organic chicory > organic lettuce > conventional arugula > conventional chicory > conventional lettuce. The total phenolic content was higher in the organic vegetables. The results of this study suggest that the organic vegetable can be a good dietary source of natural antioxidant and phenolic compounds; therefore, their consumption must be encouraged.

RESUMO:No Brasil existem várias doenças fúngicas que acometem a bananeira. Destas, pode-se citar a antracnose, responsável por grandes prejuízos à cultura, cujo agente causal é o fungo Colletotrichum musae. A principal forma de controle dessa enfermidade é através da aplicação de fungicidas a base de tiabendazol ou tiofanato metílico. Esse manejo, embora eficiente, favorece o desenvolvimento de resistência do patógeno, causa danos ao ambiente e ao produtor, deixando ainda resíduos nos frutos. Esses fatores têm favorecido a busca por substâncias alternativas com capacidade de controlar o fungo e que não sejam nocivas ao ambiente e, principalmente, que sejam seguras ao consumidor final. Dentre as opções, surge o interesse pelo uso de certos óleos essenciais e da própolis, ambos conhecidos por possuírem propriedades fungicidas. O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de determinar o potencial fungitóxico 'in vitro' da própolis e dos óleos essenciais de palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii), de teatree(Melaleuca alternifolia), de cravo (Eugenia caryophyllata), e de eucalipto (Corymbia citriodora), sobre Colletotrichum musae. O desenvolvimento experimental consistiu em adicionar inóculos fúngicos de 5 mm, obtidos a partir de colônias puras, ao meio de cultura BDA (batata-dextrose-ágar) acrescido das referidas substâncias em diferentes concentrações (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 e 125 µL/L). Paralelo aos tratamentos realizou-se teste com o fungicida padrão para comparações das médias. A eficiência das substâncias sobre o fungo foi determinada através das avaliações do crescimento micelial das colônias (média de duas medidas diametralmente opostas). Os valores de crescimento micelial obtidos foram utilizados também para o cálculo do índice de velocidade de crescimento micelial. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 5 x 6 + 1, (cinco substâncias em seis concentrações + fungicida), com cinco repetições. Os óleos de tea tree, cravo e palmarosa foram eficientes no controle do fungo Colletotrichum musae não diferindo do fungicida a partir da dose de 50 µL/L em todas as avaliações, apresentando potencial para controle em cultivos orgânicos ou em sistemas de manejo integrado.
