Rao Description An account of the resource In our study, we analyzed 30years of climatological data revealing the bean production risks for Western Amazonia. Climatological profiling showed high daytime and nighttime temperatures combined with high relative humidity and low vapor pressure deficit. Our understanding of the target environment allows us to select trait combinations for reaching higher yields in Amazonian acid soils. Our research was conducted using 64 bean lines with different genetic backgrounds. In high temperatures, we identified three water use efficiency typologies in beans based on detailed data analysis on gasometric exchange. Profligate water spenders and not water conservative accessions showed leaf cooling, and effective photosynthate partitioning to seeds, and these attributes were found to be related to higher photosynthetic efficiency. Thus, water spenders and not savers were recognized as heat resistant in acid soil conditions in Western Amazonia. Genotypes such as BFS 10, SEN 52, SER 323, different SEFs (SEF 73, SEF 10, SEF 40, SEF 70), SCR 56, SMR 173, and SMN 99 presented less negative effects of heat stress on yield. These genotypes could be suitable as parental lines for improving dry seed production. The improved knowledge on water-use efficiency typologies can be used for bean crop improvement efforts as well as further studies aimed at a better understanding of the intrinsic mechanisms of heat resistance in legumes. En otros estudios realizados, con experimentos SSF, se ha evaluado la conversión de glucano en etanol a partir de la cáscara de Jatropha pretratada en medio ácido o alcalino pero no a través de procesos hidrotérmicos. En el presente estudio, la cáscara de Jatropha curcas fue pretratada hidrotérmicamente con agua caliente a 200 °C por 15 min, y ensayada en experimentos de SSF con un coctel enzimático (Cellic CTec 2) y levadura comercial (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Diferentes cargas enzimáticas, medios estériles y tamaños de ensayo fueron usados para determinar su influencia en el rendimiento de etanol. Los resultados mostraron que, con 5% p/p de sólidos, 15 UPF/g biomasa seca, y 1mg/ml de levadura se alcanza el máximo rendimiento de etanol (0,160- 0,177 g etanol/ g biomasa seca) y conversión de celulosa (57,71- 63,90%). A través de esta investigación se propone una alternativa para el uso integral del cultivo de Jatropha curcas dentro de una economía circular. Given this threshold, the present research proposes to show some components of the Observatory of Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education of Pinar del Río, Cuba, that contribute to the informational governance of public administrations as an innovative form of management for strengthening the application of science in food production. Dichos insecticidas son una alternativa ecológica para el medio ambiente y la salud de los productores y consumidores, debido a que no afecta el ecosistema y el producto final no contiene residuos de agroquímicos. Esta opción combina y aprovecha aquellas ventajas que brindan las plantas, a través de sus componentes y propiedades activas que son efectivas para la elaboración de insecticidas. Por su alta efectividad en el control de enfermedades tropicales, insectos y el alto rendimiento por hectáreas,composición y modo de acción.El tomate es uno de los rubros que se produce en la región, sus costos de producción son bajos, posee alta calidad nutricional en vitaminas y minerales. En sus etapas de desarrollo es afectado por numerosas plagas como minadoras, chupadoras, masticadores etc. y es atacada por enfermedades diversas debido a que los plantones están a campo abierto y su periodo de cosecha es muy largo (3 a 5 meses). El modo de acción de ambos insecticidas en estas plagas es por ingestión e inhalación. La principal sustancia presente en el extracto de las hojas de Nim es la Azadiractina la cual tiene una acción repelente contra insectos plaga y además rompe el ciclo vital impidiendo su multiplicación [1], para el caso del ajo, su principal sustancia activapara la elaboración de insecticidas es la Alina que cuando es liberada interactúa con una enzima llamada alinasa y genera la alicina que es la sustancia que genera el olor característico del ajo y con el cual los insectos son repelados de la planta infectada [2]. El proceso de la elaboración de estos insecticidas inicia con el procesamiento y la extracción de las sustancias de ambos productos; posteriormente se aplica en los plantones.Luego de la aplicación de los insecticidas se observó que los plantones afectados por los insectos, mejoraron su forma y tuvieron un mejor crecimiento. El insecticida a base de Nim tuvo un 100% de efectividad en los plantones donde fue probado, en cambio la efectividad del ajo fue de 66.7% en los plantones tratados, el modo de actuar del Nim en la planta es introduciéndose a la savia y el del ajo a través de sus raíces, concluimos que el Nim es mejor producto para la elaboración de insecticidas orgánicos. Se evaluó el patrón de distribución espacial de V. bahiana en las fitofisionomías arbustiva y de bosque en un fragmento de llanuras costeras (restinga), en una unidad de conservación en el Noreste de Brasil. Para ello, se utilizó el índice de Morisita, el índice de Morisita estandarizado y el método TTLQV, y se muestrearon 1920 m2, a través de la demarcación de seis transectos de 40 × 4 m por fitofisionomía. Cada transecto se subdividió en 10 parcelas de 4 × 4 m. En la formación arbustiva, se observaron 49 individuos of V. bahiana y mayor abundancia en los bordes de los transectos (parcelas 1 y 2). En el bosque de restinga se contaron 47 individuos of V. bahiana, pero distribuidos de manera más homogéna en los transectos. Se encontró un patrón agregado para la especie en la formación arbustiva y un patrón aleatorio en el bosque de restinga. Los diferentes patrones podrían explicarse por las diferencias de luminosidad, pero también podrían estar asociados con la dispersión de semillas o la presencia de hongos de diferentes especies. Futuros estudios con distribución espacial de Orchidaceae deberían ser pluridisciplinares con la finalidad de investigar las causas principales de los patrones en escalas locales. En estos sistemas, algunos mamíferos son catalogados como plagas debido a las afectaciones que ejercen sobre estos cultivos, lo que se traduce en medidas de control que alteran las funciones que cumplen en dichos ecosistemas transformados. Durante un estudio realizado en la granja experimental Yariguíes, Santander, que incluye parcelas de producción (80% de la superficie) y zonas de reserva de bosque húmedo tropical (20%), se determinó la diversidad de mamíferos no voladores, los posibles daños que ejercen y los roles ecológicos que desempeñan. Se realizaron recorridos a través de las zonas cultivadas y de bosque, disponiendo cámaras automáticas y trampas de captura viva, además de buscar rastros como huellas, madrigueras o excretas. Adicionalmente, se evidenciaron y cuantificaron los daños en los cultivos que ejercen algunas especies de roedores. Encontramos un total de 17 especies en cinco órdenes, representando 13 gremios; éstos evidencian los roles ecológicos que cumplen y cómo pueden beneficiar los cultivos. La ardilla roja (Notosciurus granatensis) fue la especie que más atacó los frutos, con mayor predilección por las mazorcas maduras.
